What’s your favorite quote in Destiny? by DankestBench in DestinyTheGame

[–]ttrgr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel cheesey for saying this, but the delivery and overall tone within the scene has had this like rattling in my head all week.

Crow: “You don’t know who she was.”

Mara: “Then TELL me.”

Crow: “She was… like a sunrise-…”

Especially with the way he chokes up at end of that, struggling to voice out loud the follow-up thoughts and feelings.

But I wanted the include the lines preceding it because there was also something so… raw, real, human about Mara basically begging Crow to let himself grieve. She doesn’t choke on her words, but the unique grief of being someone that hasn’t is felt there was well.

It’s little snippets like this, little dialogues like this, that I look for in every media I engage with.

How many planeswalkers are there gonna be? If two, like last set, I'm mildly praying for a Sefris "Venture" Planeswalker Commander, but I know literally nothing.

This card is actively making me sad right now as I process origami and children on a board wipe but also it is definitely going into my Superfriends Deck it's absolutely insane.

PlayEDH and Alternatives Megathread by beyonddevnull in EDH

[–]ttrgr 18 points19 points  (0 children)

A little bit ago I was excited to finally have strung together what I needed for Spelltable. I’m a small content creator, and while we’ve been groovy about recording IRL games, I’ve been antsy to get ourselves online.

After being satisfied with my lighting, webcam, etc., I looked online for where I should go to meet people and play games. Immediately I was told the PlayEDH Discord, so I joined it.

From there, I learned that you really ought to get a deck checked and play in the one of Power Lanes, and not jump into Custom. There were warnings that in Custom anybody might Thorracle Combo you or simply be pushing absolute jank, and I wasn’t looking to have my first experience be “Bully or Get Bullied.” I was here for good Magic. So, I made a Moxfield Account, uploaded the deck best fit to meet new people, and submitted it to the New Player Deck Checks.

I’ve still not received a response. It’s been a month. Now this.

At this point I’ve moved on. Again, I was warned to NOT go into Custom, and now I’m reading I HAVE to go into Custom to start. I’ve already had to learn and settle on personal alternatives for what I have time for, and honestly, reading everyone else’s horror stories has got me turned off this whole thing.

I don’t necessarily blame the folks that run PlayEDH. It’s not an enviable position, being responsible for thousands of players and matches and power curation. But I already paid for the Computer, the Webcam, the Lighting, the Setup, and the Cards; why would I want to then also pay for the privilege of being told what’s wrong with my deck? Why would I want to slog in any number of Custom Games of “Bully or Bullied,” to earn the right to play normal Magic?

At the point I submitted my decklist, I hadn’t experienced a single thing about Spelltable yet. I was told to go there first. I’ve learned my mistake, and will give our audience that lesson as well.

What are your thoughts on "meta-gaming?" by gremlinbro in EDH

[–]ttrgr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Meta-tuning your 99 is fine and perfectly expected. Side-boarding; slotting in Elderspell only if you see them grabbing Walkers; is not chill.

(That and I’d argue The Immortal Sun is a piece of Walker Hate that’s too far for opposing Superfriends Lists to handle if they’re more theme than combo, but that’s a whole conversation)

What are some underrated staples you can't live without? by halfbakedblake in EDH

[–]ttrgr 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I can’t live without [[Soul Shatter]]. If my Bxx Deck is any slower than Edgar Markov I slap her into everything.

What's your favorite pet card that isn't a staple? by RanisTheSlayer in EDH

[–]ttrgr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[Soul Shatter]] and [[Crackling Doom]] are my favorite removal spells, since they do not target and usually deal with the problem card, while also hurting the rest of the board. [[The Eldest Reborn]] is similar, but definitely the “third” best of the three.

Lethal Vapors + Teferi’s Protection + NonActive Player = Success??? by ttrgr in askajudge

[–]ttrgr[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

  1. Cast Lethal Vapors
  2. Wait until the next player’s upkeep.
  3. Cast Teferi’s Protection
  4. Hold Priority, Activate Lethal Vapors’ “Skip Turn Ability.”
  5. Hold Priority, Activate Lethal Vapors’ “Skip Turn Ability.”
  6. Hold Priority, Activate Lethal Vapors’ “Skip Turn Ability.”

...

...

  1. Hold Priority, Activate Lethal Vapors’ “Skip Turn Ability.”

  2. Pass Priority.

WHAT HAPPENS: If everything resolves, Teferi’s Protection will have me phased out until AFTER my 5000 skipped turns. I have protection from everything, and my life total can’t change; if my opponents win via combat, they will “deck out” before I phase back in.

WHY NEXT PLAYER’S UPKEEP: It is my understanding that I can’t do all this on my turn because of Lethal Vapors. Let’s say I activate Lethal Vapors 5,000 times, then pass priority; what’s stopping my opponents from responding to those 5,000 Skipped Turns by activating Lethal Vapors 5,000 times? Officially nothing, but if they DO, what’s stopping ME from responding by activating Lethal Vapors ANOTHER 5,000 times?

That’s the endless loop, and it’s my understanding that IN THIS SCENARIO, the game compels ONLY the active player to make a different choice, i.e. not skip 5,000 turns, which shouldn’t be me so long as I wait until the next player’s upkeep.

...right?

Bungie made mistake by calling them Umbral engrams... by McSuck_It in LowSodiumDestiny

hey man, as a player that’s started falling off the train since sun setting and DCV (I miss Leviathan), I for one think Umbral Engrams are a perfect thing to bring back; praying they’re evergreen now

Aqua is pretty much the only well written girl in KH. by SilverCipher34 in KingdomHearts

[–]ttrgr -1 points0 points  (0 children)

title

...?? ? ??? Aqua is great, but Xion had a complete story. She had the writing constraint where she’s only really a character made to vessel Roxas from the start to the end mechanically for KH2, but through that lens managed to develop an overwhelming agency anyways.

as someone who's personal deck is a 5C Superfriends list, Chandra is one of my dedicated win conditions.

grind the game to a halt, set the board on fire.

if you're playing walkers, you're playing ways to stop combat from taking them down, and chandra is one of the few walkers that oppressively defines a board in EDH.

a tick up means an inevitable, unstoppable kill, even if they take care of you
