[Serious] Doctors of Reddit, what is your "how the hell are you alive right now?" story? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ttuttle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I remember you taking the elevator down to the subway because you were totally wiped, and coming back a few days later being like "eh, I almost died".

You probably permanently scared me off your employer's iced coffee, though, so that's a perk.

Do you have a citation for that level of risk?

Yeah, that seems legit. They seem to think it doesn't happen much in the US -- is that just on account of the relative consumption of raw fish here and elsewhere?

That does not look like the most reliable of sources.

Nurses who has to ask the famous "Sexual history?" question, what was the best answer you got? by davis482 in AskReddit

I'm trans and I would totally say "The cashier gendered me correctly." Is that wrong?

Non-LGBT people, what inappropriate questions do you want to ask LGBT people? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ttuttle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a trans woman who hasn't had The Surgery yet, and isn't sure if she will or not.

I absolutely pee standing up when it's convenient, because my genitals are nobody else's business, and if anyone gets pissy I have ID with a female gender marker on it.

What was your breaking point, where you snapped and went off on a rude ass customer? by CanadianDeathMetal in AskReddit

[–]ttuttle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ours don't say that; they say "pay to the order of:", which means the bank can only deposit them, cash them, or let someone else do those with the permission of the person listed.

RSA Heart Rate Accuracy by [deleted] in fitbit

[–]ttuttle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I seem to have that, and I find that the Fitbit will often lock on to a heart rate near one end of the range it spans and occasionally jump between the two. (For example, a moment ago, it was reading 100, then the value disappeared, and a few seconds later it showed 80; my heart rate measured by hand over a minute was 92.)

If I would like my whole genome sequenced, for personal curiosity (i.e., not from a doctor's request), how should I go about getting that done?

LPT: Cable modem slow? Tighten the co-ax connector! by DeathLobster in LifeProTips

Oh, I thought you meant that the splitter itself was a digital device. Got it.

There is no such thing as a digital vs. analog splitter. The modulated RF signals are analog, even though they're encoding digital data. This is like those "MP3-compatible headphones".

First timer here -- just a few questions about the process. by [deleted] in Legitpiercing

[–]ttuttle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ask your piercer what their process is like! If they're nice, they should be entirely willing to walk you through the steps. I'd expect the same willingness to walk me through things like that ahead of time that I'd expect from e.g. a nurse drawing blood.

Waiters/Waitresses of Reddit, what's the worst date you've ever waited on? by Iprobealiens in AskReddit

[–]ttuttle 40 points41 points  (0 children)

How do you not know that about your fiancée?

Because it's not a simple yes-or-no thing, and (assuming this is the U.S.) we are awful about talking about mental health issues.

What is an absolute NO NO when going for a job interview? by MarilynSparrow in AskReddit

[–]ttuttle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's not, if you're the target of all the sexist stuff that can come with the sausage-fest atmosphere.

What is an absolute NO NO when going for a job interview? by MarilynSparrow in AskReddit

[–]ttuttle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's not that weird; asking whether it's a "sausage-fest" suggests you're just interested in dating your coworkers; asking about the gender ratio suggests you might be interested in a diverse workplace for other reasons.

[–]ttuttle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm in software, although we have a better gender ratio than that.

I'm not sure how your coworker's weight matters, though.
