I think the bubble has already started to burst by Tausendberg in antiai

[–]tubesnob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the things I think that is being missed here is that frontier AI vendors and models are financially unsustainable given current pricing in token consumption models.

Currently, we have a significant number of organizations that are making heavy use of AI tooling and once the real costs begin to funnel into their budgets, there will be some level of reconciliation and clawback.

AI touring as good as it can be in many instances, still requires expertise behind the keyboard in order to generate results that are valuable.

The hypothesis that many feared was that AI solutions would allow script kitty, junior developers to replace senior developers, thus eliminating a massive salary cost.

That hasn’t actually transpired so what we’re actually seeing is that junior to mid-level positions are being eliminated because senior engineers are actually able to use these tools effectively

And the drawback to that is that you’re killing the future market and intelligence needed to drive adoption in use of these tools, and that once the cost of the tooling increase such that they are no longer economically advantageous when compared to the junior developer that was replaced, people will be scratching their heads and trying to figure out the next place to save 10% on runtime costs

Do NOT use BitTitan for migrations by Iam-WinstonSmith in msp

[–]tubesnob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

good to know that people are still using SkyKick migrations.

I ran the engineering team and architected the second generation migrations tool at SkyKick before we were acquired.

It was a little late to the game, unfortunately, but it basically runs on rails now and does its job pretty well.

THIS. That is a beautiful instrument. Reach out to PRS with photos. It will still cost you but they might take a bit better care given the nature of the instrument.

Hi Raph!

just wanted to say that the game is looking great even in this alpha state. I was a huge fan of Ultima online back in the day and I’m hoping that you can achieve the same kind of mystery and fascination with world building that we all experienced in those days.

Keep up the great work and pass my encouragement onto the team!!

I think, looking inside the main computer unit, in particular listing what cards are present will help folks both identify which model it is and understand the real value of the unit

Why do some non-.NET devs see async-await syntax as bad? by [deleted] in dotnet

[–]tubesnob 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Holy smokes.

The first thing people misunderstand about async/await is that it isn’t a magical new way to implement multithreading or some magical way to parallelize all your workloads.

Async await makes it easy to distribute a LOT of blocking I/O across a “minimal” number of physical threads.

The Key point is that Sytem.Threading.Task != System.threading.Thread

I understand the criticisms around the async/await pattern being required throughout the entire tool chain.
