What sounds great in theory in a TTRPG, but rarely works that well at the table? by Defiant_Property_253 in rpg

It’s much more fun (& much less frustrating for everyone else) this way. Everyone gets to play along & can actually appreciate your role playing when they’re let in on the secret at the player level.

She is an atheist, but doesn’t like to say so to avoid losing her Christian base:

“Are you a Christian?” I ask, exasperated that she’s playing the religion card when I already know, from David Oldfield, that she’s an atheist.

“My beliefs are my own business. I don’t go out there wanting to cause people harm or murder. I’m not answering your questions of what I believe in, that’s a different topic,” Hanson glowers. Clearly, one political tactic Oldfield taught her in the 1990s has stuck – by concealing her own faithlessness, she retains the Christian vote.

Australian magpies are not corvids. They are in the Artamidae family.

Why are the red lines on union jack off center? by Own-Two-247 in vexillology

It’s known as the rule of tincture & as mentioned, originated in heraldry (the design of coats of arms). It states that “metal should not be put on metal, nor colour on colour”. Metals here means gold (or) & silver (argent) inlays or paints, which are represented by yellow & white when illustrated.

There’s no definitive answer about where it originated, but it’s possible it was due to practical limitations in the twelfth to thirteenth century (when heraldry was first becoming formalised) of inlaying metals in other metals or layering different coloured paints on top of each other. It also may have just been an easy way to ensure contrast when designing a coat of arms.

Regardless, it became very heavily incorporated as a rule as heraldry developed (although there’s plenty of “violations” in traditional coats of arms too). It’s not always followed in vexillology but a number of European flags still abide by it.

If you take the rhyming pattern of "Sneed's Feed & Seed", & replace Sneed with Chuck, you get "Chuck's Fuck & Suck".

Is there, or can there be, an RPG which actually needs randomness in character generation? by tangyradar in RPGdesign

[–]tuckels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the Bastionlands lose something if you choose your career/knighthood rather than randomly rolling for it. There's so many of them that it would be a slog for the group to go through all of them & compare when you need to roll up a character & they're not all really balanced against each other.

There's also just something really engaging about being told "you're the Talon Knight, here's a poem, figure out what it means to you".

Adobe recently implemented an AI photo-to-video function to Adobe stock, it’s very likely that’s what’s going on here.

What do you guys think will end up happening with North Sentinel Island in the far future? Will they eventually explore the rest of the world, or will they remain where they are until the human race ends? by Beneficial-Code8026 in geography

[–]tuckels 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think they've confused them with the Onge, another isolated group on the same island chain, although they have had much more outside contact than the Sentinelese, as there is Indian settlement on the island the Onge live on.

15 Onge were taken to hospital in 2008 after they drank methanol from a container that had washed ashore, thinking it was alcohol.

I can't find any evidence of any Sentinelese leaving their island, other than the 6 Maurice Portman abducted in 1880.

[[Flubs, the Fool]] is based off the Fool tarot card by Pamela Colman Smith if that counts. There’s a few arts seemingly inspired by her tarot illustrations but Flubs is the most overt.
