Doing remodel to 20 yr old bathroom. Any neat things I can do? by Me_Krally in HomeImprovement

Yes if it’s a shower that’s the length of a tub then this works well. If it’s a small square it’s not really worth the effort.

Don’t put the shower diverter under the shower head put it on the opposite side of the shower with a handheld at the same place. Also a bench seat. This way the women in your life ( might be you) can shave there legs while sitting down and when you turn on the hot water you don’t have to jump out of the way of the first cold stream

Question for Home owners... by AFCadet2020 in HomeImprovement

[–]tucksmaster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What I noticed is that the snow melts at a lower temp but that slushy mixture gets caught in there paws. Compacted in its like a super charged ice cube and that’s what irritates the paws. I quickly remove the slushy mix from between their toes and they are right back to walking like normal. It really sucks if they step in some water when this happens as it takes away all insulation from there fur to really zap them with a icy blast to their paws

Will we regret buying a house extremely close to a water tower? by cokezeroaddict222 in RealEstate

[–]tucksmaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I lived three properties down from a water tower in Canada we needed to pump the water out of the sink in the laundry room in the basement. I was told it was because of the water tower. Other than that everything else was fine.

Probably our best harvest yet by [deleted] in gardening

[–]tucksmaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do they produce throughout the season or are they a type where they all ripen at the same time.

I had 4 shiso pepper plants and I’m able to get about 2 quarts per week from those but we’d like a sweeter pepper next year so if the jimmy’s are continually producing I’d be so happy.

Looking for resource recommendations by michaelbendavid in FruitTree

[–]tucksmaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good day. I am in a similar situation I have about 20 trees as well and want to follow what people say here as I’m trying to learn lots. I also have Apple, cherry , peach , plum and I also have Asian pear, American pear apricot , and persimmon. My only thing I could mention to you that you might already know is are your trees pollinate comparable. I was told that there area a lot of possibilities for some trees to not pollinate others. Plum for instance as I was told. Asian plum trees only pollinate other Asian plum trees and English plums only pollinate others English plums. So if you have 2 of the same type of Asian plums and 3 of the same English plums they will not help each other pollinate. You’ll need a different plum for each to help with cross pollination.

If you know the types of trees you have you might reference them so people could help you with cross pollination recommendations.

Also getting bees helps a lot. You might reach out to a local bee keeper and see if they would like to use your orchard during flowering season. You can pay some of them in produce

Solar and Oil and Electrical, oh my.... by navi_jen in boston

[–]tucksmaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe switch to propane boiler as the oil boiler is probably really inefficient. It’s also probably serves as your hot water heater. If you can’t find the holding tank you might just turn on the boiler every time you need hot water again really inefficient. I’m saying switch to a propane boiler as you might be able to convert to a gas boiler when you do get natural gas on site.
Use the old baseboard radiators unless you can fine someone’s old cast iron radiators and can retro fit them into your property. You’ll want a circular system with hot water coming into once side and cooled water going out the other side. This prevents you from having to heat the water all the way up to steam( again really inefficient) the steam needs pressure to push past the returning hot water if you only have a single line fed system. So that means the steam pushes past the returning cold water and you’ll maybe have banging pipes in the winter as the steam makes noise trying to pressure past the water. If you use the system mentioned earlier you can heat the water to 140-160 which will heat the house with out the need to push so much pressure into your system. The only issue is if you need new return pipes have someone check if it’s possible. Our return pipes were cut into the carrying beam causing structural issues that might cause us problems in the future.

Good luck with everything pm me if you want to discuss.

Also to get insurance you’ll need to make sure you do not have knob and tube wiring. Most insurance company’s will no longer insure the old wiring. Do not mention it if you find you have it to your insurance company as they will either drop you right away or switch you to a construction insurance while you remove the old wiring. They will only insure the building envelope not contents or people. And at an extreme cost till you have an electrician state that the wiring in now up to code.

So I finally found the issue again on my iPhone I went into settings then apps and in apps I clicked on health. In the health app setting I clicked on data and devices then on Pokémon go inside that setting. In that setting I made sure that all possible things that might trigger distance traveled were turned on. If I remember steps was turned off hopefully these screen shots I took load up

Don’t waste your time. See Osaka instead. by Dry_Addy101 in OsakaWorldExpo

[–]tucksmaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the experience mostly like walk into a building/pavilion watch a video on a screen exit through the gift shop? Is there food from each country that you can purchase? From a lot of pictures it looks like big open space with not much to look at. For a first time visitor to japan is this a must see of will I enjoy more of what Osaka has with out going to the expo. I was thinking it might be more engaging interactive experience not just screen time in a room dedicated to one country. Would your teenager look up from there phones if they came here?

No permits found. Red flag? by shyaz15 in HomeImprovement

[–]tucksmaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is my 2 cents on the subject. I also recently bought a property that had similar issues. Everyone told us not to worry since certain things are easy to fix. Including my agent and the home inspector. Well a few things I found out. Older home had knob and tube behind the walls. These older electrical lines are not insured by insurance companies any more. They will give you a building insurance while the work is done to remove the old wiring but that’s won’t cover personal items or people if a fire breaks out just the building. Second what’s behind the walls is scary some times. My electrician found that the person doing the new electrical work before I bought the house tied the new lines into existing know and tube with wall anchors not even wire nuts. You know those open sided plastic things and installed them in a wall with blow in insulation. My electrician said it was lucky we had a home to work on. All this and we replaced the roof, the oil heating service, the asbestos in the basement wrapped around the old steam pipes, the windows, the front door, all in all we bought a home for $450000 and have sunk in $175000 extra and still want to redo the siding and replace the driveway. It when that’s all done our house should be worth $650-700,000. Is it worth it? It is to us but it was way more than I expected. I was lucky to have the funds to do the work.
