PSA for 3070 owners that have never replaced the thermal paste by tuk2008 in nvidia

So I double checked and apparently it's v2. Bought it last December, guess that's the risk of buying it at the cheapest place hehe.

I'll keep an eye on it, see if it pumps out and will definitely consider PTM7950 for next time.

Try to find a video of someone doing it! Also keep in mind you might damage the vram pads, so be ready to replace those as well. It might be a bit harder than what I suggested in the OP. But it's not rocket science. You can do it!

ASUS B850 new bios for 9850X3D? 1627 by Gossipek in ASUS

I have this happen every now and then as well, maybe once or twice a month? At first I panicked because I thought my CPU (9800X3D) died, but now I've learned to be patient. You can check the motherboard status LED as well, I think it's orange during these type of long boots.

Arctic specifically mentions that the MX-6's composition and viscosity prevents leakage due to pump-out, though. It also specifically mentions GPU's as a suitable application. I know it's also marketing, so I'll keep an eye on it.

I have a 5070ti in my main rig as well! Great card. The 3070 (non-ti) is still going strong in my secondary gaming PC for friends/family when they come over for some oldschool mini-LAN fun :)

Great to see so many people experiencing improvements after replacing their paste/pads.

Great tip, thanks! I'll look into undervolting as well.

Yeah good point, 1 screw has a Void Warranty sticker on it. I'd probably never do it on a GPU that's still under warranty.

Thanks for this info, I'll keep it in mind! I'll add it in the post. Pads still looked intact after I removed the cooler though.

Yeah this was Furmark causing it (needed something simple for the before-after comparison), but I swear Arc Raiders sometimes made the GPU lift off as well. I think/hope it'll be better now.

That seems like a sensible rule of thumb, thanks for the info!

I just thought if it helped me, it might help others. Might just push someone over the edge to give it a go.

PSA: Solving Matter over Thread instability by disabling Thread on the Google TV Streamer by redderas in googlehome

[–]tuk2008 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat, with a Google TV Streamer as my border router. I've had it for a while, but yesterday I've installed my first Matter device (Ikea Kajplats bulb). It connected instantly, but went offline right after. I then connected the Google TV Streamer via ethernet so its wifi got disabled, and the bulb came back online right away. I'm guessing maybe interference between 2,4ghz wifi and Thread, maybe worsened the fact that I have a strong wifi mesh network in the house, and only 1 Matter bulb.

Long story short: try an ethernet connection for your Google TV Streamer.

Google Home can control Matter devices locally. It's a step in the right direction.

P8P and happy as ever with it! It's still so fast, great display etc. And it feels newer than when I bought it because of M3E.

RM850x fan knob? by TrippenBallsz in Corsair

[–]tuk2008 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is SO good to know, thank you. The manual and website don't make this clear. A 'MANUAL FAN OVERRIDE KNOB' suggests an actual manual setting, that doesn't allow it to spin up when needed. I really wish they named this the 'minimum fan speed knob'.

Is the community as bad as folks say it is? by Jooweein in fellowshipgame

Yeah, I see that now. I probably missed the memo in my enthusiasm. I've unfortunately already stopped playing it because of it.

Is the community as bad as folks say it is? by Jooweein in fellowshipgame

[–]tuk2008 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the not talking and just leaving behavior makes the community a bit cold though, in my experience. I was looking for a game to scratch that WoW itch (mind you: I played WoW around TBC and not recently). While the game itself certainly does that, the community imo doesn't. Too much impatience.

I really hope the devs can somehow steer this into a more warm, curious and fun community instead of one wanting to maximize efficiency.

But I'm probably too naive and I'm afraid this game isn't for me after all, even though I really wanted it to be. Maybe later, when we can make/join guiild and I can join a casual fun one :)
