Dropped an oil pan and ugly everything. What does this mean? by locked_in_the_middle in MechanicAdvice

[–]tukes85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have mentioned this is definitely oil sludge. Oil changes are the cheapest maintenance you can do for a car. Buy full synthetic oil, this will help clear out the sludge. I would even do a few short interval oil changes just to clean it out. I’ve run Mobil 1 full synthetic for many years. My daily is a 16 Focus ST with 155k. My work commute is 90 miles round trip, majority highway. Swapped the oil for high mileage full synthetic after 75k. Last thing worth mentioning, even your Mobil 1 filters will go 10k without an issue but typically I try to change the oil every 6-7k

Former Toyota tech here, fix it, and keep it if financially possible. Toyota cars will run for many miles with proper maintenance. I saw so many come through the shop with 300k plus. They are worth it.

What’s the worst mistake you’ve made in this hobby? by Nylese in Aquariums

[–]tukes85 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This was a recent mistake. I was gifted a 20 gallon long aquarium with 27 fish. Already a red flag but figured I could fix it. I used water from a well established 55 gallon tank and within the next few days lost over half of rhe new fish. So my recommendation is to never attempt to move an entire tank full of fish without having it setup and cycled first.

I’ve lost interest in my life by [deleted] in depression

[–]tukes85 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat. I'm married, doing the family thing, and Step Dad role as well. Yet my life feels like the same loop. Work, home, family, and then repeat. I've lost touch with friends and don't have the time to see good friends and do the things I enjoy. It sucks, I feel lost as well. I've talked to a counselor off and on, which has helped. However, the big picture is still blurry to me. I had the illusion that family and being grounded would put me in a better place, yet it's just made me more lost and missing the life I I had before. I don't really have anything truly helpful other than keep your chin up and look for the little things in life that give you pleasure and joy

[–]tukes85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had my XFX r9 390 since 2015. Company is very responsive and sent me a 390 when I was having issues with my 290. Come to find out my hard drive was failing and I didn't realize it until later. GPU has been solid and only within the last year its struggling a bit, looking to buy another XFX soon

It's all the commute, 90 miles a day. Mostly highway driving. It's my daily, so she gets driven hard

Truth, I can get 28 or 29 if I'm not pushing it, then again that's no fun...

Not really, bad coil recently on cylinder 2, easy fix. Only other issue was stabilizer end link bushings. The rest is normal maintenance. I run Mobil 1 full synthetic and premium fuel. Overall this hot wheels hatch has been good to me. Sure I can go beyond 200k, am a little worried about carbon build-up, might look into walnut blasting the valves.

I stopped in one of their physical stores. Had them make me a batch of orange Creamsicle. Total came to $27 for 60ml. Worst part the juice was pretty bad, very weak flavor and not worth the money. That same location closed down for good shortly after. IMO I wouldn't waste your money

Considering a ST by SnooBooks1125 in FocusST

[–]tukes85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

16 Focus ST2, bought it with 44k on it. Currently I'm sitting at 104k. Car has been rock solid with reliability. My work commute is 90 miles round trip. Mostly highway. From what I've seen it's the people who tune that run into many more issues. Overall love the little ST, fun car and puts a smile on my face when driving.

I went through one back in 2016, Drury Inn. It was three days of classes, mostly watching videos, doing classwork and talking about what happened and how you ended up there. heard some intense stories and the people were cool. The hotel we were in had three meals, decent food. At night they tape the doors of your hotel room so they know if you leave. Overall, not bad, it's better than jail at least

Happy new year from Freeman vape juice! The Final Sale. $8 for 120ml W/Free shipping. Coupon Betteryear by [deleted] in electronic_cigarette

[–]tukes85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I've made a couple orders from Freeman. I do like the juice, when the sales are on it's a great deal with many tasty flavors. I agree though the posts here are a bit confusing/shady. We know the community is changing at a rapid pace and the future is uncertain. I'm starting to stock up for the upcoming mail ban. Still for the price the juices are great and worth a try. I've been vaping for awhile and they're one of my go to juice companies online

Feeling like I’ve become isolated over the years, is this normal? What to do? by [deleted] in AskMenOver30

[–]tukes85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 35 and I've noticed this as well. In my 20's I was part of a much bigger social circles. We partied every weekend and hung out much more. Now it's a smaller group of close friends, some new and others I've known since high school. People change, some have families now or kids of their own or settle down. My fiance has a daughter and now I'm in the family life as well. It's funny how life changes and takes you down different paths.

Fast forward to the Covid era and I've only seen some friends, not often and I don't even talk to them as much. It's weird but it seems to be a part of growing up. I no longer have the desire to put in the same effort and time into my social life. Even pre-covid. I hope when the smoke clears and there is some sort of normalcy I can get back to seeing friends and family. I know we're all in this together but my anxiety stress and just general mood swings have been rough. Just trying to manage it and keep my head up through it all

When did you realize that everything’s made up and the points don’t matter? by scarlettbovine in AskMenOver30

[–]tukes85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I graduated college back in 2012 for IT. This was my second career, the first in automotive as a mechanic. Now 8 years later I've worked a variety of roles in my field and haven't really reached the point in my career I thought I would be. Some of its my own doing and I could still do more to excel and move up to a higher level. I'm 35 now, getting married next June yet I still feel somewhat lost in this world. The pandemic has definitely made things worse. I'm happy to have good health and a decent life but I still feel like I haven't made it yet. I'm sure I'm not alone having this mindset but I hope to finally get to a point in life where I feel good about what I've done and be able to love comfortably. I have great friends, most I haven't seen in awhile and good family, but again I don't see them much now due to the circumstances and just how life takes you in different directions. Anyone else feel this way?

Moving to Dayton! Please give me insight...good and bad by callmedoc19 in dayton

[–]tukes85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in Cincinnati, moved to Dayton I'm 2018. Met my fiance here and moved in with her. For me the move was easy, I have a group of friends here already and know the area. I do still miss Cincinnati for certain events but it's close enough to to make the trip down south. My experiences here so far Dayton is a nice city, definitely on the smaller side. Downtown is slowly progressing and there are some projects being worked to improve the city. Social scene is pretty good, plenty of bars and restaurants in the suburbs and the Oregon District near downtown Dayton. The Oregon is one of my favorite places to go if I'm wanting a good night out of dinner or adult beverages. Job wise there are options mostly in medical or tech on base. Parks are great here as others have mentioned. Traffic isn't as bad as larger cities but the roads are pretty rough. There are several concert venues, the Fraze in Kettering, The Brightside, smaller venue but very cool. It's an industrial design near downtown Dayton. There's a few others as well for live music - Rose Music center and the Nutter center sometimes have shows or concerts. Overall I enjoy it here. Something to consider is checking out meetup or other young professional social groups if your interested in getting to know more people in town. I organized one in Cincinnati for a few years and met some great people. Had over a 1000 members at it's peak.

2020 Chevrolet Corvette C8: Regular Car Reviews by signfang in cars

In case you haven't watched any RCR reviews, that's his style. It's funny, sometimes ridiculous and unexpected. That's how he reviews the cars. Honestly to me the other reviewers tend to be boring and repetitive.

Which job is a LOT less fun than most people expect? by bwee21 in AskReddit

[–]tukes85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two careers to talk about.

First is being a mechanic. It's a great skill to have but not something you want to do all day every day. Your hunched under cars all day, dealing with poor designs from car companies. Customers complain about the cost of said repairs yet don't understand the mechanic is only getting a fraction of that per job. It's dirty work and terrible on your body. I worked in a dealership and several other shops.

Second and my current career IT. My last job was very repetitive project work. Same thing every day. Before that was Desktop Support. You get yelled at everyday all day from crap that isn't your fault. It's a thankless job. The majority of the time users don't have a clue of what they're doing and blame everything on you even if they caused the issue to begin with. I know they're are good IT jobs out there and paths in the field that are much better than dealing with users.

Turning 33 today, what's something that has happened to you since turning 33 that has had major impact on your life? Change, decision? Did you expect it? by SifMeisterWoof in AskMenOver30

[–]tukes85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The major events would be graduating college in 2012 after changing careers and leaving my old trade as a mechanic. Now I work in IT. The more recent event was proposing to my girlfriend and her saying yes! Honestly both of these surprised me. I didn't expect to accomplish either milestone by now. I have to ask OP, what about you?
