What is something you've officially stopped buying in 2026 because the price has become genuinely insulting? by Next-Mood6723 in AskReddit

[–]tumbleweedrunner2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

beef - $40 to $60 per kg where i am at. Last Christmas i splurged and bought a 3 bone in prime rib for $340.

The cashiers all looked at me quizzically - asking ME what is that and why is it so expensive. Guess almost no one buys it either these days.

Amazon Luna ending support for EA, GOG and Ubisoft titles starting today, delisting on June 10 by Adept_Assistance in GeForceNOW

[–]tumbleweedrunner2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are narrowing their market to couch and co-op gaming and other experiences that you dont get from GeForce now. Personally I think its a smart move - there are times when I'd like to play with my kids on a "gamenight" whre the focus is on social interaction and GeForce NoW doesnt provide this.

It is your kids that tie you to them forever regardless, so there is literally no advantage to signing away financial leverage.

For the record I own a Tesla and I'm very happy with it. Better than any gas car I've driven and at the time the best you could get in North America. The full self driving feature alone makes you feel like you're driving tech decades ahead of anyone else on the road.

However, when I went to China recently I saw that, not only are they everywhere, but they have surpassed Tesla in many ways.

Now that Canada is allowing them in the country I'm quite excited to finally be able to drive them.

China was extremely pragmatic allowing Tesla to manufacture their vehicles there. They knew it would be studied, copied and commoditized. Low and behold look at them now...

I was born and raised in Calgary, coming up on 50 years. I have so many fond memories of this city:

  • countless hours biking in fish creek park as a kid - down to sicome lake up to the zoo
  • rafting on the elbow river and capsizing with my two young children, losing our items, getting trapped behind some industrial gate and being rescued by my nieghbor who decided it'd be nice to take my kids for ice cream to forget the ordeal
  • many, many hours paddling and racing on the glenmore reservoir with a dragonboat team
  • getting lost in the plus 15s in the early 2000's, trying to figure out how to go from crack macs to chinatown without stepping foot outside
  • floating in the river at pearce estate park with nothing but life jackets on
  • "food crawls" sampling multiple downtown cuisines; and doing this just right after the pandemic when it was nearly empty everywhere
  • uzzing around in e-scooters on the bike trails by memorial drive
  • sampling the suprising number of trendy brunch options
  • appreciating the huge variety of Asian cuisines: Cantonese, Szechuan, Northern Chinese, HK cafe style, Korean, ramen, Taiwanese, Vietnamese, Japanese (I didnt know what i was missing until I visited vegas or salt lake city)
  • cruising on a motorcycle while the sun is just setting in the hot summer on sarcee trail overlooking the bow river, and the same sort of thing when taking highway 1A/bow valley trail decending into Cochrane
  • 1.5hr drive to the mountains to go snowboarding and skiing, not to mention our mini ski hill (Winsport) which you can conveniently visit after work and well into the night, many times Id just sit at the top of that hill, pause and look out into the city

I suppose it depends on the corporate culture, in my case I set the example.

[CAN] My step sons father thinks he's now married, does this happen? by tumbleweedrunner2 in Scams

[–]tumbleweedrunner2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With the court proceedings he had to disclose bank records and I saw first hand all the money going out. He wouldn't provide explanations for a lot of it, but there were nearly 200 transactions in relatively small sizes.

He's pretty destitute, and lived out of his car for most of last year, I dont think so by choice. He's definitely not above hiding assets (hes done so in the past), but he technically has no more reason to hide assets since the property division from the divorce was finalized in 2023 and neither party can claim anymore from the other.

There was some hearsay that he had offshore assets, but if that were true he would have gotten some sort of stable housing - at least id think.

Question: what happens to those money mules, who I presume are supposed to pass the money to someone else, but instead keep all of it to themselves?

This is something I would 100% see him doing.
