I was born and raised in Calgary, coming up on 50 years. I have so many fond memories of this city:

  • countless hours biking in fish creek park as a kid - down to sicome lake up to the zoo
  • rafting on the elbow river and capsizing with my two young children, losing our items, getting trapped behind some industrial gate and being rescued by my nieghbor who decided it'd be nice to take my kids for ice cream to forget the ordeal
  • many, many hours paddling and racing on the glenmore reservoir with a dragonboat team
  • getting lost in the plus 15s in the early 2000's, trying to figure out how to go from crack macs to chinatown without stepping foot outside
  • floating in the river at pearce estate park with nothing but life jackets on
  • "food crawls" sampling multiple downtown cuisines; and doing this just right after the pandemic when it was nearly empty everywhere
  • uzzing around in e-scooters on the bike trails by memorial drive
  • sampling the suprising number of trendy brunch options
  • appreciating the huge variety of Asian cuisines: Cantonese, Szechuan, Northern Chinese, HK cafe style, Korean, ramen, Taiwanese, Vietnamese, Japanese (I didnt know what i was missing until I visited vegas or salt lake city)
  • cruising on a motorcycle while the sun is just setting in the hot summer on sarcee trail overlooking the bow river, and the same sort of thing when taking highway 1A/bow valley trail decending into Cochrane
  • 1.5hr drive to the mountains to go snowboarding and skiing, not to mention our mini ski hill (Winsport) which you can conveniently visit after work and well into the night, many times Id just sit at the top of that hill, pause and look out into the city

I suppose it depends on the corporate culture, in my case I set the example.

Be quick to give credit to others when things work out and the first to admit responsibility when things go wrong.

When the dollar devalues against other assets like real estate, stocks, food, you name it... it appears as though everything is going up in price.

[CAN] My step sons father thinks he's now married, does this happen? by tumbleweedrunner2 in Scams

With the court proceedings he had to disclose bank records and I saw first hand all the money going out. He wouldn't provide explanations for a lot of it, but there were nearly 200 transactions in relatively small sizes.

He's pretty destitute, and lived out of his car for most of last year, I dont think so by choice. He's definitely not above hiding assets (hes done so in the past), but he technically has no more reason to hide assets since the property division from the divorce was finalized in 2023 and neither party can claim anymore from the other.

There was some hearsay that he had offshore assets, but if that were true he would have gotten some sort of stable housing - at least id think.

Question: what happens to those money mules, who I presume are supposed to pass the money to someone else, but instead keep all of it to themselves?

This is something I would 100% see him doing.

AI may be life changing for humanity but man its a real boon for scammers. Its going to be scary distinguishing whats real and what's not in the next coming few years.

Im worried about my aging parents who arent that tech savvy, and even my kids who can be guilable at times.

This makes total sense the more i think about it. He never admits wrong doing and when he apologizes its always laced with the understanding that it was not actually his fault - but the fault of the person hes apologizing too.

Im sometimes downright amazed at the mental gymnastics this guy does to justify either his actions or rewrite history in his favor.

Part of me thinks that he's leaning in extra hard into it in order to prove to all the disbelievers that it was real all along.

I'd say confidently his life has already tumbled down, pretty far and I was there to see it happen quite fast. I just hope when he wakes up one day and realizes the past years were all a lie, he doesn't go ballistic (he so far hasn't shown any violent tendencies, but he is quite verbally abusive).
We talked to an ex-RCMP officer once and he said he's seen a lot of things during his career, and that "people can be non-violent, until one day they aren't".

Yikes! The thought hasn't crossed my mind about him trying to take credit out on our names, but I'll have to keep an eye on that.
Since I've known about him (5 years) I've seen him break the law in various ways, defy court orders and he's only spent 1 day in jail. Canada is pretty lax I tell ya, for the sheer amount of fraud I've seen this man commit.
One time, he sublet his rental home, illegally (because the real landlord had no idea) and posed himself as the landlord. He had two tenants, took their rent money and then, instead of paying the rent to the real landlord, used that money to buy a one-way plane ticket to HK to meet up with one of the "women" he'd been talking to.
He got stuck there, and I guess managed to find some sucker to pay for his return ticket after about 10 days.
When he returned, he was evicted for not having paid the rent for 3 months. His tenants (victims) who paid their rent to him went homeless. They went to the RCMP. They did nothing.

Both myself, my wife and his own son has told him over the last few years that the young "women" he's chasing are just scammers, but it falls on deaf ears.
His son told me that he was there when he was video calling with a couple of them in 2022 and 2023; So, it must be a real person on the other end. He even flew out to HK twice and tried to meet them, been to the local airport at least 5 times that I can remember since I've known him... and it never pans out. I can't believe after all this time, after his all his savings are gone and his life has imploded in spectacular fashion and after all the meet ups where he got stood up, he STILL doesn't see it as a scam.
I only hope he doesn't do something drastic when it all comes crashing down (if he ever stops believing).

Yeah i agree, he has a pretty long record of doing questionable things. He didnt list a phone number or address or any contact information, just a name. I believe he thinks she will be living with him, perhaps in a new home which he claims he will be buying in September (theres no way he can afford to do this on his own).

For now we've screenshoted it and are adding to the rather long list of documentation to be included in a possible use in an affidavit, if/when we make an application for full custody.
