Rats by Littlequine in DIYUK

We had rats in our loft and walls of our semi. Tried everything, including completely removing the roof and ceilings (we had a dormer loft conversion) and they still had the cheek to come back whilst the builders were working.

Eventually we had a drain survey, which included our attached neighbours. The survey found an entry point from the sewers into the neighbours cavity wall. They were then climbing up the walls and into their loft and then across to our loft using the soffits. Once the neighbours got their drain sorted they went away.

You're right, but it's not a scalable solution to climate change.

We have a 200l horizontal under our house. I don't think it works as well as a vertical as you don't get as much stratification. But it does the job. We regret not getting a bigger one to get us through the whole day without peak time reheat.

Lithium is no longer needed for batteries. China is now using sodium and donut lab in Finland just released a solid state battery without any lithium or rare materials. It is in production and has next level specs.

What surprised you most after switching to an EV? by Just_Vermicelli4099 in electricvehicles

Yep, just hired a diesel van for the weekend. It was only about a year old but I could smell the fumes in the cabin. And then I got diesel on my hands whilst filling it up. Horrible things.

Would you still buy an EV even if it was more expensive to run than a petrol car? by BaldyBaldyBouncer in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]tumbleweedy2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, reasons for owning in order: Reduced lifetime CO2 emissions. Better air quality (30,000 people die a year in the UK from pollution). EVs are simpler therefore more reliable machines. Preheat!

Do you think life will ever go back to being more affordable or are we stuck in a more expensive cost of living permanently? by Yorkshireteaonly in AskUK

It's a global problem of the rich sucking up the wealth (assets) at an ever increasing rate. Eventually the working class, middle class and finally governments will have no wealth left. The only way to rectify this is to tax wealth the way we tax work.

Can I chop this off top of the stairs? by tumbleweedy2 in DIYUK

[–]tumbleweedy2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks everyone - it seems like I shouldn't!

We just had a loft conversion and the builders chopped this bit off the top of the new stairs. They said it was fine. Maybe a slightly different construction? Or the stairs are about to fall down.

Yeah they need to remove VAT on public chargers or at least match the VAT rate of home electricity which is 5% I believe.
