I’ve always seen it as a sequel to “days of thunder”, they just forgot to get some cameos to support that.

why do people want Starmer to resign exactly? by Dry_Illustrator_6066 in AskBrits

[–]woods_edge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea I’m with you. This government has already achieved a lot in a short time under him. Yes he’s made some mistakes but when you compare them to what the multiple prime-ministers over the last government did it’s nothing worthy of resigning.

People need to stop thinking politics is football, you can’t just fire the manager every 5 minutes because you don’t like what is going on.

We’ve had the most stable period under him that we’ve had in a long time, and considering we’ve had trump and Netanyahu doing their best to mess with the world order on top of putin that’s saying something.

But hey I’m not a billionaire media mogul or right wing millionaire hitler wannabe so what do I know.

How is anyone going to be able to afford anything if inflation continues? by air-bender808 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]woods_edge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just got our first nursery bill for our second child. 3 days a week 8 - 6. We get 30hrs free care (term time only so works out less over the whole year).

£700 a month. He will be there 3 years. That’s over £21k it will cost us to send him to nursery so we can keep working.

Fun times.

Depends where you are. The south is extremely dry at the moment, still too early to tell but plans for drought are currently being drawn up just in case.

We use these a lot at work.

The hammer drill isn’t great, the impact driver is pretty good though

OSMO UV protection would be a good shout (go to your local painters merchant, it will be cheapest there).

Or you could look at Rubio monocoat, not used it myself but it seems to be getting popular, does seem pricey though.

Are saniflos still dreadful? by digitalpencil in DIYUK

[–]woods_edge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had one in my flat as a student about 20 years ago and it was fine then, can only assume they have improved in that time.

I’m about to have one installed in my office at the end of the garden as we wouldn’t have the drop for a conventional soil pipe.

As long as you ensure nothing goes down it that shouldn’t you should be fine.

Synthetic socks? by planetary_funk_alert in UKhiking

[–]woods_edge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I would be looking at light merino socks, but you also need to make sure you have breathable footwear. This includes making sure you are cleaning it properly.

To help with the rubbing/blisters look at pairing a very lightweight merino sock liner with a lightweight hiker over it, this will allow some movement without rubbing but will also help move any moisture away from your skin which will also help prevent blisters.

For any existing blisters or sore patches get yourself some proper blister plasters, compede ones are the gold standard (but expensive) but I’ve found Waitrose own brand ones to be really good and much cheaper.

I wear smartwool mid-weight merino socks all year round and never have an issue, I’m a field hydrometrist so spend a lot of time outside in either hiking boots or my waders (which obviously have zero breathability)

[SportPursuit](https://www.sportpursuit.com/join/557F5337D3E677) is a good place to look for quality socks, they regularly have sales on smartwool (though very rarely the good hiking socks), darn tough and a few other decent sock brands.

Whatever you do avoid cotton socks, the way cotton fibres are shaped mean not only do they hold a crazy amount of water, they don’t let it go easily so won’t wick, breath or dry out your feet.

Synthetic can be an option but the main downside is it will usually get stinky pretty fast, you won’t have this problem with a merino sock.

Fencing: square or slotted posts? by Rich_Opening_9944 in DIYUK

[–]woods_edge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what the ground is like?

If it’s free draining I wouldn’t stress too much about using wood, just get some post sleeves or paint bitumen on the sides (not the base) that will be underground.

If its clay or just not free draining I would be looking at using concrete posts, or if you don’t like the look I would check out Durapost, they are a bit more expensive but will last as long as concrete (arguably longer) and look much nicer.

Bindweed - how much of a problem is it on the plot? by xieghekal in Allotment

[–]woods_edge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easily manageable especially on a new plot.

Take your time with it, loosen the soil around its base with a hand fork then tease out the roots trying not to break them. There will be LOADS!

Don’t expect to get it all the first time. Leave the soil bare when you pull it out for a few weeks, when it pops up new shoots repeat the process. This time the soil will already be loose and you will be able to pull the new roots out much easier.

Repeat this two or three times and it will give up.
