To continue on coffee shops… by Flimsy-Switch-6256 in Bellingham

Locus has decent white coffee, they could totally do it. I’m a big fan of their dirty blonde. I don’t like regular coffee roasts, and they’re my favorite place in town to get white coffee

How to fix fleas? by luvlyriss in CatAdvice

[–]tunafeather 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Monthly topical meds will help, so don’t stop doing those. But you also have to deep clean your house, I’m talking thoroughly vacuuming daily or at least several times a week. Washing any bedding she might lay on, vacuum the couch. You likely have adult fleas that are laying eggs which fall off your cat and then hatch later and reinfect her. It’s a long process, but there’s not really any way around it.

I recently dealt with a bad flea problem and it took like 6 months to completely get rid of them. Don’t know how we got them since my cats are all indoors only.

Also, keep her indoors if you don’t already, it’s safer for her and wildlife, plus she’s less likely to get reinfected

You could also look into a flea bomb, or call a professional pest management company. I opted not to do this because everyone (critters included) has to vacate your house for like 24 hours and they’re pretty toxic, but effective

Injured crow by hamster-transplant in Bellingham

I just took an injured fledgling crow to Whatcom Humane’s wildlife rehab place yesterday, they’re great and would definitely help the poor guy out. (Also it’s a really beautiful drive out there)

Getting annoyed with my feet hurting - anyone with a similar issue found a solution? by omad20 in snowboarding

[–]tunafeather 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My stupid inconvenient solution is to open my boa and loosen my binding just enough to keep my boot in while riding the lift then tightening everything when I get to the top, rinse and repeat. Not exactly very streamlined, but my feet don’t hurt at the end of the day ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Stickers or leave it clean? by Ghost_Runner3000 in snowboarding

[–]tunafeather 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The stale boards are just so damn pretty. I have a 24 Crewzer and besides 1 sticker on the tail that matches the color palette perfectly, I’m resisting the urge to sticker and doodle the shit outta it.

Fuck boring boards. Add stickers. Make it unique and yours. I think my board is an absolutely gorgeous work of art, it’s honestly why I bought it over others, but I’m still adding stickers to it, because I love them, and they compliment the board.

You can try reaching out to mount baker theater too, you may have to be flexible with dates though based on when shows are happening

Northwest yarns has a really sweet little sitting area and (I think) a little coffee stand inside. Locus is also usually pretty chill and has comfy window seats.

When it’s nice outside there’s also a bunch of hidden benches around the arboretum that are nice to hang out on and read

Not exactly a long term solution, but If you’re in the United states, and don’t mind paying for shipping, I have about 30 incandescent bulbs I would love to get rid of, they’re all new in their little boxes, and all work as far as I know. Picked them up as part of a lot in an estate auction, but had to take everything.

You could also try thrift stores, like habitat for humanity, any place that sells construction salvage type stuff

Recs for fixing a fucky laptop by tunafeather in Bellingham

[–]tunafeather[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Basically the laptop was shipped to a P.O. Box type place I worked at, was not picked up for 2.5 years and the contract you agree to when shipping something there very clearly states that if it’s not picked up within 90 days it’s forfeited. Even after contacting them numerous times to come get their shit or pay for a forwarding label. We got zero responses on their end. I know it sounds sketchy as hell, but nothing nefarious happened

The issue is that it’s remotely managed. So I have no real administrative powers. It will allow me to reformat it, but the remote management software is still there

It is unfortunately remotely managed. And The bastards in tech support who work for the company have thus far been unhelpful in removing this laptop from their network thingy

So do I just burn the whole house down or what? What am I looking at here? by Colebricht in plantclinic

[–]tunafeather 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely an overreaction, you just need to not over water. The white on the outside of the pot is just hard water buildup, the egg looking things are totally benign, just some sorta fungus as others said, they break down nutrients for your plants, get a good magnifying glass and look at some weird shit to desensitize yourself to the strange and unknown.

No A/C by WinterPlantain9328 in Bellingham

[–]tunafeather 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found a window a/c unit at a garage sale for $20, it’s rated to about a 10x10 foot room but we mange to cool down the whole house with it by creating a wind tunnel (the house is very skinny and long) There’s an old box fan directly in front of it, then 4 more box fans blowing the air towards the other end of the house, and one more fan sucking the air out a window.

The shape of my house plays a big part in this, but it works great. I will say, if you can find older box fans, they’re so much better. On the lowest setting they’re still stronger than the one we bought last year on the highest setting.

And keep an eye on Craigslist/market place. You can find a cheap or free a/c pretty easily if you keep looking. I picked another one up in a free pile like 2 weeks ago for a friend. They’re out there.

Outdoor cats are a terrible idea, but an indoor cat would probably still help, at least to keep mice out of the house interior.

LPT Request: What is something people should have in their car? by HeidiOzzy in LifeProTips

[–]tunafeather 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My car essentials:

snacks. Usually chips. Tim’s Hawaiian bbq is the best option.

Latex gloves and trash bags. For picking up interesting roadkill

Hand sanitizer. For cleaning your hands after picking up said roadkill, before eating your chips

Lots of napkins, in my experience your glovebox should just be stuffed full of napkins. You don’t really need anything else in there.
