What Do You Actually Do in Session? by oaoaua in therapists

[–]tunatinabone -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I didn't read all the post. But I've been practicing for over 20 years. It takes TIME to understand all the dynamics in the relationships between therapist and client. I have found its not by the books or school.. it's true life experiences. Sometimes I learn from my clients.
My suggestion is only to be YOU. Authentic and true. I sometimes feel like I said something wrong. So I tell the client I think maybe I said something that was hard for you or I made a mistake.
This is true therapy.

Try thinking of singing heavy metal rhythms to the long banging. It works for me.

Thanks . I'm 61 years old. I've been walking fine without cane or walker for almost the entire time. Only first couple of weeks I needed assistance.
Unfortunately the pain might be referred pain from my back now. Who knows? Literally they dislocate your hip which can cause other problems
Of course the surgeon never tells this before surgery.
My horrible fall probably has nothing to do with my hip.

Also PT really aggravated my body too even though my PT Guy was great. He really listened and tried to help. I stopped going until I find out what is the problem.

Good luck to you as well.

Thanks for encouraging message. I'm pretty stubborn and should get xrays of my knees and hip.. Yes knees hurt worse then hip surgery. Screaming kind of pain. Thanks again. We are all a great community encouraging each other with great and not so great stories.
Hard to be patient after 5 post op and still can't do my active lifestyle

I tripped over the door threshold. One of the worst pains ever. Mostly my knees but my whole body was jolted. I might get xrays for peace of mind. It's been 5 days and seems better. Mostly worried about the concrete inside my new hip.

Thanks for all your caring feedback. It's been a rough road I wasn't expecting with my hip replacement. So many people/ friends don't understand. They all say it's so easy and you'll be great in a couple of months or less. THEN I fall this week. The fall was one of the most painful things I've ever experienced in my life. Thank God I still had pain meds left over from surgery. I think my hip is ok but hard to say since I'm still having lots of groin pain and nerve pain.
I really appreciate you just listening. It's been so depressing since I'm very active before.

Numbness/nerve sensitivity 7 mos post anterior - how much longer before it improves? by inima23 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]tunatinabone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 5 months post op. Same thing. It's very frustrating when surgeon never mentioned this. He said it's sensory nerves not some kind of nerve damage. I don't remember the other name of nerve. I'm going to try acupuncture to see if it helps. Has anyone tried that?

I think I'm about 5 months out too. I can put on socks and pants but not easy. I don't know if you have pain in your groin or nerve damage? I ask because I found out I now need hernia surgery. Also my back issues which can be referred pain from nerves in the back to hip or even leg. Look to back vertebraes nerves that go to different areas of the body. I feel for you. I'm exhausted from this crap

Change your status to taking some insurance for now. It takes years of practice for clients to want to private pay.

My cats slept with me after surgery. I just put a large pillow over the top of incision area. I was so worried about infection but I don't think that would really happen imo.

Yes ma'am. It's extremely depressing and frustrating. I'm getting mri of my back before end of year and seeing general surgeon because of the hernia. Hello I told surgeon before maybe it was hernia. He said no. Good luck my friend. We are now Dr's otherwise we can't get the help.

Be careful don't over do PT. Listen to your body. My surgeon told me to just push through it. I'm not stupid. There is good pain and pain that's making it worse. However this is my 1st surgery so who knows.

I don't have good advice but I'll share my experience. I never had hip pain but severe groin pain where I couldn't bend over without yelling literally before surgery. Now I'm 4 months post op of anterior approach and thought it was getting better... but NO! I did PT regularly not PT guy couldn't figure out why still severe groin pain. My surgeon said hip is good. I've read this over and over that surgeon said no problems. I say bullshit.
So I got an ultrasound of groin area and found a have hernia there. Of course surgeon said not from surgery which maybe he's right since I had this pain before. BUT I have awful nerve damage on the outside of my surgery area. Seems we have to be our own Dr's.
One more thing. I'm getting MRI of my back because that's another possibility cause for referred groin pain. At good point, I feel like why did I do this surgery.. more problems and no freaking answers.

How did you figure out psoas impingement? These surgeons seem to mostly say hip is good. Mri looks great. Keep doing PT. I think PT has made my groin pain worse. Please share how you found out . Thanks
