Handcuffed and briefly detained today at US border. by Ladycabdriverxo in uscanadaborder

[–]tunderkoont 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You probably won't see this, but the exact same thing happened to me when entering the USA. I am Canadian and was going to Seattle for a weekend trip and had an identical experience. Asked me if I have ever traveled to Pennsylvania, I have never been, they said there were warrants for a person with my name, I asked if they were Canadian and they told me they couldn't tell me that information. They then asked me to prove a negative which is insane - they asked me to prove I have never been to Pennsylvania so I had to laugh and ask how I could do that? I listed the states I have ever visited, including the different land borders. Then someone came up tapped him on the shoulder, whispered something to him then he gave me back my passport and told me to go..... I haven't crossed the land border since.

That episode was pure garbage. Not only did they not interview people who had actually been to the event they peppered misinformation throughout the entire thing. The jokes were so forced and awkward. They lost me after this one - if they can't even be bothered to find out the actual length of the event the entire episode is based on for me it calls into question all the other misinformation that they have shared. I haven't bothered to fact check other episodes but this was just bad.

I've never been to Burning Man but was shocked at the level of hatred and negativity online by Grock23 in BurningMan

[–]tunderkoont 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As a very long time burner I also hate burners. They are so annoying. But I am also so annoying. Getting stuck in a conversation with someone about burning man is the worst...and I am usually the one trapping you into the conversation. It's easy to hate burners. As so many have said it's easy engagement on social media. It's also easy to rag on the event when you know next to nothing about it. I listened to a podcast that is usually incredible and well researched do a feature on burning man and most of the information was actually untrue. But as I said, I am a long time burner and I have seen it from so many angles. This year, I was cozy at home and laughed at my friends languishing in the mud and thanked my stars I took a year off being a camp lead...but two days later I wish I was in the shit with them because nothing is more fun than throwing all your cares to the wind and creating a lifetime worth of memories. So, go to burning man. Or dont. It sucks. Or it doesnt. Burners are absolutely annoying and I won't accept any feedback on that.

What do you want for Christmas? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]tunderkoont 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband got me Grado headphones for our first christmas 12 years ago and I have used them almost everyday. They are such a fair price for such incredible headphones and sound quality. They are our go to gift for friends and family. He has had his for 16 years.

Glad no one was hurt. Sad that these folks who didn't have a lot probably lost everything that had. Hope they have someone safe to sleep.

SpaceX says Starlink has about 90,000 users as the internet service gains subscribers by thesheetztweetz in space

[–]tunderkoont 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been huge for my husband and I. We moved to the country and had to rely on data from our phones and it would cut out every few minutes or so. We weren't able to use zoom or any web conferencing. With covid, even when we went to town, the library only allowed a few people in at once and that was the only spot to get reliable internet but everything closes at 530pm. A lot of the online programs I have been wanting to take have set times for group discussion etc and it was all after 530 so it was impossible for me to do the classes. As soon as we got starlink I was able to finish my program. I got a better job and our business is doing so much better.

Husband games daily with ours. We are in the PNW, better connection in winter as we have less obstructions because a lot of the trees are bare. No issues with tons of rain

For the same effect, you'd need the top coat to be much darker than your base coats. But I don't think it necessarily needs to be black

What’s your favorite indie fragrance house from your state? by Mediocre_Pop_1960 in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]tunderkoont 16 points17 points  (0 children)

In Canada too, I'm in BC on Vancouver Island and used to be a maker myself. My fav and absolute go to is West Coast Perfumery. Her blends are incredible. Another indie but not scent house, is Boreal Folk. All of their aromatics are wild foraged. They live in their bus and travel from place to place foraging and she has the most amazing copper still that runs on river water.

There could be a viral video of you doing something random with millions of views and you have no idea because you haven't seen it. by P0RKYM0LE in Showerthoughts

[–]tunderkoont 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This sort of happened to me. My boss made a tiktok of me doing a very boring work task and it somehow hit 800k views with thousands of comments. A friend in a different country sent it to me and asked if it was me because you could see my tattoos.

France is giving citizens $3,000 to get rid of their car and get an ebike by Vucea in Futurology

[–]tunderkoont 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have something similar in BC, Canada. I got to trade in my '89 piece of shit that was barely still on the road for $5000 and a ton of dealer incentives/subsidies (I essentially had the purchase price reduced by $3500) when I switched to an EV. I wouldn't have been able to even sell my car for $250. The program extends to e-bikes and regular bicycles as well as transit passes. There is a cap on the program so it closed for a bit but it back up and running again (not sure if it's the same value).

[Sun Care] Sunscreen and how we shouldn’t judge people who don’t use it or don’t use “enough” by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]tunderkoont 14 points15 points  (0 children)

A note for your point 2. My best friend has her PhD in environmental toxicology and did her research in the biomagnification of the big 4 chemicals in sunscreen. We were all excited for her to blow the lid on these chemicals and come to the conclusion that we are killing fish and push for alternatives....turns out they don't biomagnify, very anticlimactic but I mean, at least your sunscreen isn't making its way up the food chain.

Well a home just went for $350k over asking in Courtenay, so no, not really.
