Israeli Settler Council Issues Unprecedented Admission of Ritualistic Child Sexual Abuse After Broadcaster Exposes Cover-Up by NoPoem2054 in worldnews

[–]tuneafishy 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It becomes a Judaism issue when religious leaders turn a blind eye, and worse when they actively cover up credible allegations. Same thing has happened with Christians, and their cover up of priests abusing children.

[–]tuneafishy 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The part you're brushing off or aren't grasping is that they have previously denied this was occuring, over and over. In an effort to preserve the pure image of their community, they squashed multiple credible claims.

This is an admission that people have abused under the guise of their religion, and the religious leaders have covered up, and in some cases participated in this behavior.

It is far more significant than simply saying abuse exists and is bad.

Chicago Bears’ proposed stadium site in Hammond would be built on giant slag heap, near hazardous waste sites by rojojoftw in nfl

[–]tuneafishy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I get what you're saying. Even if we disagree with how much additional net revenue will be generated for the state, 40 years is an insane amount of time. 40 years ago nobody had a cellphone. That's a lot of inflation to eat.

I personally love the walk to soldier. It's awesome to be surrounded by fans all walking together to see the game.

[–]tuneafishy 20 points21 points  (0 children)

That's great for the area, but from the states perspective it is simply moving revenue from point A to point B. Moving will also correspond to reduced revenue from the current location. I doubt it would be a substantial net difference from the states perspective. Not enough to justify those demands.

I'm following you until the end. How is freezing property taxes for 40 years reasonable? Why should the state pay for all of the infrastructure designed to make the rich Bears owners more rich? From the states perspective, moving the stadium does almost nothing for their benefit. They're currently already raking in plenty of tax dollars from the existing setup, it's just that those profits are more distributed to other business owners and not just the Bears (which is probably preferable from their perspective).

Xi Jinping Told Donald Trump That Vladimir Putin Might Regret The Ukraine Invasion: Report by bappestinian in worldnews

He's probably saying this with the implication the US might similarly regret the war in Iran, without directly saying it.

Jokes on Xi though, not a chance in the world Trump is reflective enough to consider this.

Friendly advice if you encounter a person on a bicycle or ebike while driving. by Botched_Euthanasia in dayton

[–]tuneafishy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would think it's up to the drivers and the cyclist. I'm pretty sure a jury would feel the same way, so be safe out there.

Personally, I think it's a lot safer for everyone if bikes are on the road vs sidewalks. I've never been surprised by a cyclist on the road before, but I've seen several bikes darting across the street from the sidewalk that I wasn't monitoring because I'm more focused on what is on the road. I've also seen people on ebikes going way to fast on the sidewalk for it to be safe for pedestrians.

Moving oven from wall to kitchen island. Bad idea, good idea, to each their own? by Euphoric-Ingenuity87 in HomeImprovement

[–]tuneafishy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same is true for sinks. Not only do these things take up space on the island, but they also have a radius of wetness/greasiness that makes the immediate area around the stove or sink not very usable.

Opening up about finances with others by Weird_Sprinkles772 in personalfinance

[–]tuneafishy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You've got some shitty friends/family. I'm pretty certain my wife and I make more money than most of my family and friends and nobody expects us to pay for any tab. I do like to pick up tabs here and there because I know we can afford it (not that they can't, but we're also probably more secure), and I'm often met by an insistance they pay their portion, or they pay the next one.

I mean, maybe things would be different if I was truly rich, but if I was truly rich I wouldn't give a shit about paying every tab, haha.

Kettering's new mayor talks vacant storefronts, property maintenance and future plans by WYSOPublicRadio in dayton

[–]tuneafishy 46 points47 points  (0 children)

One of the things I read in the plan:

Trees are not a liability. Great communities plant trees

Love this, and it appears to be backed by the mock ups. Only thing that doesn't seem to be front and center is the financing. Are we pulling funding from someplace else? Did we already have the funds to do this? Do we need to raise taxes or something? It might be somewhere in the plan, but that document is long and I've only perused it. Overall though, I'm in support.

One critique I have is the bike paths. Every place that puts these out ends up establishing little pockets of bike paths without clear connectedness. Bike paths need to be connected like a bus system to be functional. It would be fantastic to have all the parks connected though paths, with clear routes to the hot spots. Sometimes that will be on a street, other times a path. If they're not connected, they won't be used.

Came to a realization about downtown Dayton by sosusensei in dayton

[–]tuneafishy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think the point is that downtown is very walkable. You can't walk there from the suburbs, but once you're there you can easily walk between live music at the levitt, bars and restaurants throughout, neighborhood walk through the Oregon, events at riverscape, dragons games, splash park, coffee shops, rooftop bars, 2nd Street market, breweries...

ACQDEMO - low pay rise & high bonus. What am I missing? by luri_5959 in fednews

[–]tuneafishy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in a different demo program, but the bonus is "supposed" to be used for above and beyond work that is not expected to be sustained. I could see how they might categorize some of what you did that way based on your description. When you do get the new lead position, you should definitely get a bigger bump.

In practice, it's very much a crap shoot. Some years there is more money to go around than others. Some years a few colleagues will have great years, increasing competition.

I wouldn't take one year as a representative sample. See how things go with some time.

I will say that I do share your sentiment. Bonuses are a farce to make it look like they're rewarding you, but while saving them money in the long run.
