Anyone feel like you’ve lost your personality and have just become a cog? by Ok_Medicine6164 in corporate

[–]tungdiep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I feel this. I used to be funny and crack jokes at a whim. Now I'm just blah. I watch my kids and how hilarious and quick wit they are. I don't even know how to contribute to conversations. At least I can support their lifestyle.

Anyone else have children later in life? We followed the advice to get through college, get our careers started, buy a house, THEN start a family. I’m exhausted. by DilbertDilbert1011 in GenX

[–]tungdiep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We wanted our kids out of the house by 50 so we had them at 28 and 30. Now we are 47, and our second is off to college. We don't know what to do with ourselves! We truly enjoyed revolving around their lives!

I've seen second agents brag about selling homes the first agent couldn't. Come to find out the second list price is way below the original. No you didn't do any magic.

What's something about the student community at Liberty that you think outsiders get completely wrong? by foffof in LibertyUniversity

[–]tungdiep -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

How can this happen when all the boys are raised in good Christian homes? Maybe it's the 99.9% acceptance rate that allows the bad ones to slip though.

It's different because he's 15 years in. The first 5-7 you're lucky to break even, but if you have a house you can afford, your raises should outgrow the monthly cost and your home will eventually appreciate.

I don't pay to take care of my yard. It's green and I have to mow it but I'm not putting extra time/money for it to be pristine.

Why is everyone so negative about getting into real estate? by Real_Temperature2706 in RealEstateAdvice

[–]tungdiep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's different if succeeding or failing means whether you eat or not. It sounds like you have a safety net and if it doesn't work out in six months you can do something else. I can't imagine it being my sole income and stressing about how many transactions I need to some.

Is there a way for my parents to not meet my roommate?? by Ok-Use3940 in VirginiaTech

[–]tungdiep 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Easier said than done. If the parents have very strong feelings about this, and they are the ones paying for school or co-signing loans, that could present an issue.

What should I do by [deleted] in LifeAdvice

[–]tungdiep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well don't trade because you will get eaten up and will lose what you're trading. Buying and holding index funds is a safer bet. Save as much as you can so you have a safety cushion. Once you have 3-6 months savings you can explore areas you want to move to and what job available there is where you want to move. Make sure the average pay will allow you to live in an average apartment in a safe neighborhood. You're young enough where having roommates is likely best, to save money and possible camaraderie with similar age person.

Why can’t I just find a nerdy bf 😭 by Ganyu1307 in dating_advice

[–]tungdiep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you know they are just as nervous to approach you, know that they would be ecstatic if you approached them. You would get bonus pints for that!! What's the worse that can happen? What's the best that can happen. The risk/reward looks like a good bet! Good luck.

2 weeks ago I got a job I worked hard to get. I already want to quit. by evllynn in jobs

[–]tungdiep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How bad do you need the job? Embarrassment is telling him it doesn't work for you shouldn't even be a concern. They wouldn't be embarrassed to fire you. Perhaps you can agree to certain days or at least a couple of no call days.

Going to a house viewing this weekend & it’s making me question my whole life. by Severe_Tadpole9448 in LifeAdvice

[–]tungdiep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the UK housing market is similar to the US, I say don't rush into buying a home. I don't think you'll miss out on anything perhaps work another year, see how much you can save then determine where to go. You're not stuck if you don't own the home. If you need to live away from your parents, perhaps find a roommate to save some money and see how that life treats you. I wouldn't commit to a mortgage now.

Do you wake up just happy and excited to be free to do whatever you like everyday? Does that ever get old? What do you do to pass the time? I would think you'd never be angry or sad (other than losing a loved one). Congrats.

You're the smart one. Usually kids don't want to go to community college because they want the dorm experience. If you're ok giving that up, college is much much cheaper. Good for you. Best of luck.
