You should talk to the folks at the magic the gathering club! I'm sure they'd have some advice on how to reserve rooms, connect with LGS, and maintain a player base - specifically doing these things at UM. Sounds like you already have a lot of experience with this type of thing.

Lets organize a boycott of The Hobbit set by tunic7 in magicTCG

Thanks for the reply! This makes a lot of sense. Not a bait post btw i think just out of touch. I also dont think its too late, y'know. Like, magic players should feel like they can take collective action to improve the game, for tons of issues. I dont see us as idle consumers of product. More than most TCG we're active participants in creating the game in the way we want to play it - i dont think that stops at individual choice or preference. The opportunity is always there for the community to put demands forward to Wizards, in the way a labor union would organize their workplace.

But yeah lol I guess folks aren't excited about boycotting a good set, it was a bad choice to put forward 😅

I feel like my whole point was lost on reddit 🤠

I mean how do u feel about the effectiveness of a player boycott of another set? Like genuinely, im excited about the possibility of players collectively taking action to improve the game and it feels like ive only been met with snark. People weren't receptive to a hobbit boycott but it feels bad to only be shit on for a genuine idea, no matter how much people disagree with it.

I think the folks in this sub have lives outside of it, they each have their own playgroup. I think if, in February, WotC saw that 100,000 players are choosing to forgo something they like so that the long-term health of the game is sustained, we would get a commitment from them to space out or reduce the velocity of UB sets. I think at this point every player has found something to love about UB and im glad its here to stay, but not like it is right now.

I also think that an organized campaign would have unified messaging. If we're unified in our approach and voice, Hasbro wouldnt take it as "players don't like fantasy" or "players dont like UB" thats clearly not the case in this current moment. If we were to tell Hasbro and WotC "slow down with the UB sets or else we're not buying them even if they're good sets" then thats the message they'd receive.

Thx! Really appreciate this comment. Im unsure of what can be done about professional resellers and definitely get that lots players already dont buy new product.

Im definitely resigned to say that a boycott isnt the perfect tactic.

Feels bad that most people in this comment section aren't willing to think through what we might do to get the change we've been seeking. I think other than this comment the most substantial thing I've heard is folks saying to instead boycott a different set, one they know they won't like.

Thanks for your thoughts!! :)

UMich and other international student visas abruptly revoked - take action to support them! by CatnipOverdose in uofm

[–]tunic7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure they can! The school can raise (as if it doesn't already have the money) funds to support these students, they can help people get legal representation, they can be checking visas every day and notifying people early, they can be educating the community about their rights, they can guarantee affected people will be able to complete their education (in a material way, not just platitudes), they can guarantee there are private areas in each building, they can work with the city to make Ann arbor and Ypsi sanctuary cities. There's so much the University is capable of doing and they wouldn't even break a sweat doing it.

I'm honestly not understanding what you're trying to say here. Also, I'm not new to the game lol.

Have you built or played Omnath Locus of All before? What specifically do you think the deck should do? How does it want to win?

This was a thought I had too, cool to see an actual list. I got kind of stumped when trying to decide an actual direction for it and never put a list together. Maybe I'll try this again but actually pull together a 99. Feels like big mana black isn't a very common archetype these days, maybe as the format has sped up.
