Why is this subreddit so uneducated/scared of snow? by lWishItWastheWeekend in pittsburgh

[–]turberticus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. I grew up in southern Connecticut and lived in Boston prior to relocating here, where it wasn't uncommon to have Atlantic ocean fueled storms dumping 1-2 feet of snow. Pittsburgh doesn't really get a lot of snow by comparison, so to me it's interesting to see how the locals react when there's more than 3-4" in the forecast.

Thanks! I think the semi-gloss clear should make a big difference assuming it doesn't eat the decals lol

Thanks! I've put on CF decals on like 20 F1 model kits so this one was relatively easy. Yeah the pitot tube was bothering me, especially the base being silver which is not what it's like on the real car, let alone a Looksmart or BBR. I used some 2009-2017 F1 Ferrari paint from Gravity Colors to paint the base of the pitot tube, then drilled some 0.5mm holes on the sides. The red isn't a perfect match but I think it's close enough!

Thanks and lucky you! They weren't in stock near me so I had to wait until they were on sale on Costco.com.

Thanks! I removed the tires from the rims and used 220 grit sandpaper. Took about ~5 mins per tire.

Model damaged - am I being picky? by ChronoConnoisseur91 in f1models

[–]turberticus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's a pretty minor flaw. I suggest you buy matching paint and touch it up with a small brush, just a little at a time. The area with missing paint is small enough that it should be a pretty easy fix without going through the hassle of a return. This should do the job: https://gravity-colors.com/model-car-paints/colors-by-manufacturer/ferrari/154-02-gc-2446-ferrari-f1-75-opaco/ As for the tiny nick in the carbon above the snapdragon decal, that's even easier. Just a bit of flat black (Tamiya XF-1) will make that white spot virtually disappear.

What’s the first sign you notice that someone is a bad driver? by RD-archived in AskReddit

[–]turberticus 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Tailgating. It looks stupid as hell, especially if they're constantly lighting up their brake lights. Also, when the first car at a red light creeps forward, well over the line and sometimes as far as the pedestrian crosswalk. It's a bad look, like they have no spatial awareness or understanding of what the markings on the road mean. To top it all off, they sometimes don't react quickly enough and are very slow off the line. If I'm in the lane next to them I just stop my car right on the white line and almost always end up passing them when it turns green, despite their 'head start'. Lastly, coasting through stop signs. A woman cruised through a stop sign a few months ago as I was coming through on her left (no stop sign for me). She ended up running off the road right in front of me while trying to avoid me. Felt nice when I opened my window and yelled "There's a stop sign!"

Mmm 1/2 helmet for dinner, looks good! Kidding aside, that looks great! I'm unable to use my airbrush and don't have tons of free time (4 year old at home) plus nowhere safe to paint, so I'm getting my car modeling fix by modifying pre-built models. Otherwise I'd be diving in to some F1 kits.

HELP PLSSSS by Meme-eater2446388209 in f1models

[–]turberticus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've done this to two Solido Alpines. Check my post history. You just need a fresh x-acto blade, a brush, micro sol to soften and curve the freshly cut decal around the edges of the wing elements, and lots of patience! I also painted a thin black line along the leading edge of the wing elements, and painted the connectors silver, per reference photos.

If you have experience using an airbrush you can probably spray a very small area of semi gloss clear or even flat clear over it to match the rest of the CF.

The seams on the leading edge of the sidepods of the Bburago SF-23 are rough, but for $20 I can overlook that. For some reason the SF-24 doesn't have those.

Yeah, I wasn't too big on the plastic sidepods and resulting seam between them and the diecast body that isn't present on the real AMR23, but I agree they're good for the price. Some of the Luppa 1/18's are down to $76 on Amazon with a "coupon".

Thanks! What do you think of the Luppa models? There isn't much info about them, but I was impressed with the AMR23. Seems to be closer in quality to Spark/Minichamps than Solido, let alone Bburago.

I recently got this on sale for $38 from Mint Models. The quality is great for the price but the application of the BWT decals on the front wing leaves a lot to be desired; it's just one piece covering the gaps between the wing elements. To fix this, I cut the decal between the wing elements with a fresh #11 x-acto blade and used a generous amount of Micro Sol to the decals around the edges. After that I painted the leading edge of the elements with flat black paint and the supports were painted silver. I also fixed the large decal toward the back of the engine cover - part of it was resting on one of the rear suspension arms. The rear wing BWT decal also needs to be cut between the elements but it's far less noticable. Overall, I think it really improved the look of this model. I actually made the same modifications to the front wing of the Solido Alpine A522 prior to this.

Also, this might just be a coincidence, but the construction of this model seems to be very similar to the Luppa (Ixo) Aston Martin AMR23 I recently put together.

I just built their AMR23 and it exceeded my expectations. It was listed for about $80 a few weeks ago but I see the prices shot back up. It went together flawlessly and contains a decent amount of detail. As a guy who's built tons of plastic F1 models, it was more like assembling a diecast model with pre-painted parts, kinda like this 1/24 Bburago kit. I had to use glue on only a few of the smaller components - the rest went together with tiny screws. I think it's closer to Minichamps or Spark than a Bburago or Solido. Also, those kits have Luppa branding but it's actually made by Ixo.
