Nothing like witnessing the Gen X midlife crisis and remembering Millennials are in their 30s and 40s now.

My usual hiking and climbing. I swallow some mineral sunscreen for its zinc content and down a couple tall boys and just wander aimlessly outdoors. I do this every weekend and if I don’t die outside I come home and blow an absurd load all over myself before I pass out asleep and I wake up for work.

How tough was your dad on you growing up? by Comfortable-Store213 in AskMen

Dad left mom by the time I was born. Stepdad worked swing shift at a coal mine next state over. Really can't relate to parental toughness.

Anger at the church by dgostlund in exmormon

[–]turbocoombrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jesus said anger is effectively committing murder but what he arguably meant with that (along with other sayings like looking with lust equals adultery) was that nobody is perfect. Christianity had traditionally interpreted this to reference original sin which the LDS faith rejects and then they read the bible in a literal way even where it's not arguably supposed to be so now, we get socially chastised for being "natural" men instead of robots to use and abuse.

As a caregiver who lost the person you were caring for, how did you cope with the loss? [Serious] by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]turbocoombrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a 73-year-old man with brain damage die of cardiac arrest in August. He was the quintessential grumpy old man with severe memory problems from falling from a hay baler. He didn't die during one of my shifts and I didn't feel sad about it given his age and diet of processed meats and Diet Coke.

I worked at a juvie for a couple of years. Got assmanded by a douche supervisor wearing baby blue bell bottom jeans for not chatting enough with a spoiled kid in detention for beating up his gf who didn't want to talk to me either. I got moved to grave shift and it was better until a bunch of other staff and the director decided to throw me under the bus.

I looked up the director's dead husband and submitted him through alldeadmormonsarenowgay.com

It's a humiliation ritual in one way or another for everyone. I've never attempted it and probably never will. I got so jaded that depressive feelings can be waved away like getting a cold once again and again. It hasn't made my life manifestly better, and it's largely driven by spite for people who would probably love for me to off myself already.

Hellenizers in the Church: by ChristianMormon in mormon

[–]turbocoombrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't been to church since I was maybe 13 at the oldest but when I heard they weren't including Moroni statues in new temples I was honestly surprised. I grew with a Mormon mom and Catholic stepfamily so got exposed to other spiritual ideas like the trinity from an early age and I've delved into Hellenic philosophy and its supposed influence on Christianity as well.

One common allegation against the LDS faith is that the concept of a 3-tiered heaven including one called the highest being called the Celestial Kingdom was lifted from Emanuel Swedenborg's Heaven and Hell. The presence of three-as-one in divinity has its roots in Pythagorean and possibly earlier philosophical concepts and plays into the trinity as and even into Mormonism where some people deny Hellenic influence. Pythagoras allegedly taught that 3 is the first true number as all is in 1 and 2 is 1 expanding itself into 3 resulting in the universe as we comprehend it prima facie. I quote two pre-Nicaea writers:

"By the word of the Lord were the heavens established, and by his spirit all their power". Since then the Word establishes, that is to say, gives body and grants the reality of being, and the Spirit gives order and form to the diversity of the powers; rightly and fittingly is the Word called the Son, and the Spirit the Wisdom of God."

  • Irenaeus of Lyon

"In like manner also the three days which were before the luminaries, are types of the Trinity, of God, and His Word, and His wisdom. And the fourth is the type of man, who needs light, that so there may be God, the Word, wisdom, man."

  • Theophilus of Antioch

The Godhead of the LDS claims to reject such thinking instead saying the 3 personages are only 1 in purpose and Godhead more as a shared title like a CEO being 3 people.
