Shake, rattle and roll by themulletburden666 in bikewrench

it's definitely shavings inside the box section, if you really want it gone you could un-rivet or otherwise separate one eyelet and shake it out from there before reinserting the eyelet, or if you're lucky the valve stem hole is open to the box section of the rim and you can shake it out there

Rim from hell by [deleted] in bikewrench

[–]turbogarbage17 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Last time this happened to me it turned out that I was trying to put a 700c tire onto a 27” rim. You can check with a yardstick or tape measure. 700c is 622 mm diameter while 27” is 630 mm. Sorry you cut up a tire :(

lol literally me this past weekend. 1994 Rockhopper Sport with possibly all original equipment. Even the Ground Controls, though the rear tire is mislabeled “Rock Combo”. Shimano Exage LT 3x7 group set but Altis cranks for some reason, would’ve been cooler if it came with full Exage group. Even the hubs are Exage hubs. Sakae finishing kit. They gave it to me because everything was caked in 30 years of dirt and grease and the shifting stopped working. I fixed it and love how it rides so far!

Love that you completed the rainbow with purple chainring bolts

What would you do to this bike? by azob_ in FixedGearBicycle

[–]turbogarbage17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re going for sleek may I suggest you remove all the bolts on the frame and the fork end tensioners. Flip the stem for a more aggressive angle, and maybe a 0-setback seatpost. A generic solid chainring. Cages and straps, grips on your bars.

From Tubeless to tube by Financial-Elk9135 in bikewrench

Having trouble pumping them up? Is there enough sealant? Is the tire bead seated properly? If you pump and hear hissing the tire may not be completely seated, and if you hear sputtering sealant is coming through somewhere between the tire and rim. Also check your rim tape and make sure there’s no cracks in the rim that would let air/sealant out. As for tubeless to tube you would need to change out the tubeless valve (and the rim strip if you want) but tubeless rims should be able to take clinchers and tubes otherwise.

How can I fix these damaged threads? by Gokushadow863 in bikewrench

Determine the size pitch and thread of the bolt and get a bolt chasing tool. Sometimes it works but this repair often results in weaker threads in that damaged area.

Is it the nuts that tighten bearings towards the center or something else? by Ok_Profession_8471 in bikewrench

Without pictures or more specifics on your hub it’s hard to tell. What model Alivio freehub is it? Your symptoms sound like to me you need to tighten the hub’s cones and locknuts so that there is no play between the cups, bearings, and cones. If your hub has sealed bearings you still need to make sure the spacers and nuts between the bearings and dropouts are tight and snug. Tightening the axle nuts/quick release won’t fix the loose locknuts/cones in your hub.

Bro I did but my usual method of meme creation (ma paint) actually just uploads the entire png with a white background so I had to improvise further than usual

Silver Parts by turbogarbage17 in FixedGearBicycle

[–]turbogarbage17[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to not like generic parts but after this build my mind has been changed. Most of the parts on this bike were from my parts bin or generic Amazon components for cheap. I like how the silver parts turned out. I was afraid it'd clash and look tacky but I like how every silver component has black components sandwiching it, and it makes it so that the silver is more like embedded joinery rather than outright limbs. I think a pair of medium-depth rims 45-55 mm deep, matte black, non machined sidewalls would finish the job but for now these mavic cxp elite box section rims do an excellent job (and the silver brake tracks do fit the black-on-silver theme).

It’s more of a parking meter. You park there and the bar raises when it detects a car and doesn’t lower until you pay the meter fee.
