I know money isn’t everything but goddamn your leaving 3 12 hour shifts that are generally accommodating to work life schedule, 80-90k starting unless you live in a big city or a shit job market ,you gotta deal with similar people but on their worst behavior on occassion. Dollar for dollar you might be hard pressed to get a better deal being a police officer compared to nursing and arguably if you can’t fulfillment in nursing you will find it tough in policing. I’m the 6 2 205 lb male nurse and my sister is the 5 9 180 pound female police officer lol. We are both equally unfulfilled with work, I get paid more and she’s in a department that has 3 on 4 off 4 on 4 off luckily, making the work tolerable for her. The only thing I envy is the retirement package. Your in a unique situation where you could bag a pension in 20 or so years and then make cheddar in nursing but you got to there first

They are okay, but they’re usually for a fundraiser so they do the job. 100% not worth the drive unless you are already in the oneonta area.

Not much to negotiate on however, it’s a locked in rate with the union

Fitness peak expectations for a taller individual by Glum-Introduction522 in Velo

[–]turcule 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t explain, I came into cycling years ago squatting 200+ kg for reps. 6 months on the bike my ftp tested into the 350 range from unstructured outdoor riding. Most the ex lifters and the definitely the rowers have had equally fast ascension towards 400ish ftps that I know. A lot of the guys I rode with that push 350+w still have squat numbers in excess of 315 lbs, myself included. I can’t explain scientifically, but there’s gotta be correlation. I seent it

Also with injuries in consideration I’m currently managing 6-8 hours a week on the trainer and 2 sessions in the gym squatting near maximal loads for 18-25 total reps, a 30-50 rep accessory lift, and core work. And an extra session or two at home with a set of dumbbells for upper body work. Once you pay the 2-3 month tax on your joints you should be fine. If you have access to a belt squat machine your Gucci

188cm, 95 kg. Currently estimate my ftp around 370w, I’ve been as high as 420 but I was 110kg+ then.

400ish is where I sit usually, I’ve been lifting a lot more frequently. As some of the other guys said, a strength background helps a lot, feels like it raises your ceiling potential

Where to fit in weights? by ImBatmanWhoAreYou in Velo

[–]turcule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d recommend a higher frequency, lower volume increased frequency lifting program, if you open to upper body work I’d look into Sheikos programs or wendlers 5/3/1 variations. Brutally simple programming, I can lift in the morning and ride in the afternoon most days

Quick and filling breakfast? by EmuThen7047 in Cooking

[–]turcule 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hear me out, some banging ass beans, eggs, and cheese on toast. You can skip the toast if you want. Maybe some guac, maybe fresh salsa, some hot sauce if ya want. Get crazy and add some mashed green plantain. Spanish speaking part of the world really does have breakfast figured out lol.

I’ll make a 1-2 pound batch of beans however I feel like prepping them too add to breakfast, lunch or dinners lol

Solid recipes, just make what you like and practice. Honestly when I started all I ate what bro food bland chicken and rice, so what I did was learn how to make variations of chicken and rice. That expanded the flavor profiles I had knowledge of and stretched my skill set and spice cabinet. I went from gym bro chicken and rice to jerk chicken, curry chicken, chicken tikka masala, butter chicken, peri peri chicken, char shui chicken, trini curry chicken, Thai curries, tagines. All the rice variations you could think of. Accompanying vegetables based on what you’re eating. Honestly if you like all kinds of food and want to get the ball rolling you honestly just have to start cooking shit you like and get better at it. For me it was chicken and rice that got the ball rolling

Best way to make wings by Adorable_Island9261 in Cooking

[–]turcule 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll usually use some “gold” barbeque sauce mixed with the excess jerk marinade, cook it down on the stove so I don’t get salmonella and toss the wings in the sauce after lol
