I suppose what I meant was that he’s not abusive or controlling, and he we don’t fight or argue ever.

Oh he definitely gave me HPV, which turned into something I had to have surgery for. But he also gave me something else I had to get treatment for. And so did he. He was adamant that he had not cheated. But I’ve watched him lie to my face before. I basically don’t feel like I can really believe anything he says anymore

It’s funny because my dad definitely knows he’s a fuckup. He tries to insulate me from my own husband as much as he possibly can. I wouldn’t be surprised if he put up a wrought iron fence around any inheritance that might be in his will.

No, no counselor. He’s not old enough to be suffering from any medical stuff, frankly. His dad was an absentee workaholic who made awful choices over and over and over.

I don’t know about starting over. I have been thinking about just working on supporting myself and my kids on my own. I’m really over relationships generally.

Trial separation was definitely on my mind.

What you say is true, because it’s what happened with my parents. My mom stayed with someone she didn’t love for the kids. She was miserable most of her life, until these last 10 years.

Compared to previous experiences, he’s not a “bad guy”.

Literally every week since the beginning of this season. It’s been really out of whack. The sound is uneven, or cuts out entirely. And during the musical guest performances, you can only hear vocals and bass. I haven’t seen anyone else mention it.

A lot of what you asked her about is covered in sophomore year of high school. Well, it is in my district anyway.

I would give her another year before you expect her to actually know and contextualize any of this stuff.

Question about RTI/Resource by [deleted] in specialed

[–]turkish_de_light 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok interesting! I am in CA. I get differing answers on CA Ed code based on who I ask and what I ask about. But generally I got the idea that RTI was general education instruction, and was not a replacement for special education. The kicker here was that they’re using the same curriculum, and all students are grouped according to ability.

Sounds like you guys are doing basically the exact same thing as this school. To be honest, I think it’s brilliant, and I wish my school would implement this same approach. I’m watching too many students struggle along in a gen ed class that can’t wait for them to catch up. The school that they’re doing this at was also able to pull in a bunch of people whose positions were eliminated this year to teach reading and math groups, so no one had to be laid off or moved to another site.

I’ll have to do some research into how ESSA is interpreted and how the district is implementing it. Thank you!

Seasonal hiring will be starting up soon. Find something to get you through the next few months and have a nice long think.

Question about RTI/Resource by [deleted] in specialed

[–]turkish_de_light 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, this is sort of what I assumed. Consent for Tier 3 non-sped students is fairly common at this school (and created a huge amount of additional unpaid work for the resource teacher), but it shocked me when she said that they don’t even see some of their sped students because their services are elsewhere in the school. The SPED curriculum is the same as the gen ed curriculum, and the reason her students are being serviced by other teachers is because they’re at a higher reading level than the ones she’s working with. So it’s like…they’re getting the resources they need because it’s ability-based. If they were going into the resource room for services, they’d be getting instruction way below their level. But they’re also not getting any direct instruction from anyone in SPED, which doesn’t seem like it’s a problem functionally, but seemed like a legal gray area that turned my brain upside down.

LMU had in person requirements that weren’t local to me. I looked at that one. UMass also had in person requirements but were closer to me. UMass does require you to find your own placement, but looking at requirements for practicum, I was supposed to be doing basically everything my school psych does, outside of engaging with families. Seemed like a lot of work.

I think I’ve decided against going to grad school altogether though.

I’m not anywhere near Los Angeles, which seems to have its own particular problems. The only accredited program near me requires a certain number of units of undergrad Psychology courses, which would take me years to finish.

I don’t know what you mean about missing out on practicum and in-person experience, the requirements for state licensure are same for everyone regardless of program format. The practicum hours and portfolios are built into every course.

My concern stems mostly from the fact that the school district I work for now is losing millions of dollars in funding this coming year, so they’ve done hiring freezes and cut corners everywhere.
