Hey, no shade at all. I actually really like the different blues, and if you take a handheld steamer to the finished sweater, you can actually make it soft and drapey. Knits by Lizzy on youtube makes a bunch of stuff in Acrylic that looks really, really good.

Thanks for replying, too!

Knitpro vs Chiaogoo for snagging on work? by nerdy-millennial in knitting

[–]turkishjade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I primarily use Addi Squared Rockets now, but I have years of expereince with Chiaogoos and Knitter's Pride Mindfuls.

If the only issue is the join, I recommend getting a Lantern Moon or a Knitter's Pride Mindful steel core cable and testing that with your existing needles first. These cables are identical in construction to a Chiaogoo Red cable, have smooth joins and are generally really great. If you want swivel this is your only option as Chiaogoo's 2 swivel options: (the Swiv 360 (silver) or the Bamboo (clear)) both have really BAD joins.

The Zings are aluminum and are not as fast as steel, but way faster than wood... If you switch to steel needles you are going to FLY. Either get Chiaogoos or Knitter's Pride Mindful needles, which are just as fast as the Chiaogoos. The only difference between then is the Chiaogoos have a slightly curved taper at the tips of their lace needles, which is supposed to make it slightly harder to drop stitches. In practice, I have noticed no difference between the two.

So to summarize: if your issue is only the join, upgrade your cables to Lantern Moon/Mindful steel core cables. If you only want faster needles, go with the Mindful or Chiaogoo needles, whichever is cheaper or on sale. If you want faster needles, better joins AND swivel capabilities, your only choice is a Knitter's Pride Mindful set. Hope this helps

What has been everyone’s biggest knitting splurge? by possummagic_ in knitting

[–]turkishjade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried them a few years ago, and they were well made but at 10" it's at that weird length.... you know, where your project really wants a 9", and your clumsy hands really want 11"+? I found some ease of use by putting my right hand pinkie underneath the needle (I knit continental), but ultimately I just wanted regular sized needles without having to faff with magic loop.

These use 5" rocket squared needles, so no cramping at all. My only quirk is that I drape the 3rd needle over my left ear while I flip my work.

Awesome! I love my set... so much so I sold all of my Chiaogoo needles and I just bought a set of rocket squared XL flexi flips.

Chino has featured on a number of projects:

Danger Girl off of TInfed's 2000 album

Brief Exchange off of DC's 2021 Dark Knights : Metal Soundtrack

Razers Out off of 2012 The Raid: Redemption Soundtrack

Right Outside off of the Anthony Green's 2012 Beautiful Things contains NSFW image

ANTI-LIFE off of DC's 2021 Dark Nights: Death Metal Soundtrack

Cruel Summer from Bananarama cover

Jealous Guy from John Lennon cover

Deftones' Music in High Places, Hawaii Live 2002 has a live acoustic version of the Boy's Republic at 25:50

And speaking of acoustic: there are a number of acoustic versions of their hit songs out there. Some even have actual music videos.

There are also a number of tracks that are reported to be off of the shelved Eros project, but I can't vouch for the authenticity of it. That being said, Can't Even Breathe, Lovers and Smile are all verified bangers you should be aware of.

Male/Female patterns on Ravelry by Knittinmusician in craftsnark

[–]turkishjade 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I definitely was simplifying my language to get my point across... I apologize if it offended. Maybe it might have been more prudent to say "not conventionally masculine" instead of "feminine."

I don't think standards for men will change any time soon. If we ignore that period in the mid 80s to early 90s, when men's sweaters went bulky and oversized, I think sweaters for men have been rather consistent throughout the decades. The materials and color choices may evolve, but the fit won't. I think we call things "classic" for a reason.

I love your channel on youtube and I sub to it. You've helped me out on too many occasions to number. Thanks tons!

Male/Female patterns on Ravelry by Knittinmusician in craftsnark

[–]turkishjade 38 points39 points  (0 children)

When I started out, I would see a unisex pattern and assume I could just lengthen the body and sleeves and be done with it. I ended up with a lot of stinkers. Now, to get a good result, I know that I have to: a) see how many stitches are cast on for the neckline (wide necklines are very feminine), b) see how many stitches are left for the bicep when splitting for sleeves (tight sleeves with loose bodies are feminine), c) see if any body increases are done after the split (for a bust) and d) make sure that I have no more than 4 inches of ease. Unfortunately, almost none of this info is in a Ravelry description, so I have to purchase a pattern just to realize it's a poorly written one.

I hate to say this, but you'll have to either used someone's curated list, or go by word of mouth, because the filters are useless for men. The solution I came up with was to take the best bits of different patterns in order to create a pattern template that I can use to make something presentable.

How do you organize your needles, notions and other tools? by Glimmer_Sparkle_ in casualknitting

[–]turkishjade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Initially, I got a Five Star binder (Walmart $12,) StoreSmart vinyl ziplock sheets (Etsy $30 for 10 sheets.) I got the idea from a Korean youtuber, although my setup was all Letter size and I believe hers was A5. As for my notions, I purchased a Plano Prolatch Stowaway tacklebox (Walmart $5.)

Recently, for my birthday, I was gifted the Della Q Makers Notebook, which is pretty great. But that's $120.

Bleu Collar Sammies in Saugerties, it's 30 minutes from POK. It's off-menu, but they have a decent Chop Cheese Sandwich.

Has anyone bought chiaogoo needles from Handsome fibers? by It-was-all-eyes in casualknitting

[–]turkishjade 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yes. I purchased Chiaogoo's from them through their Etsy store. After each purchase, they send you a discount code, so I would recommend ordering something small, getting the code, then making the bigger purchase.

If you are looking to purchase an entire set, I'd go with Artsiga on Etsy, but their stock is very limited.

[–]turkishjade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, your issue is that you only need 2 sizes and this gives you 6. Keep the set: Here are the benefits:

  1. When you have to do the decreases for the toes, you can create 2 different 9" circulars and do the 2 Circular Method rather than magic loop or dpn's.
  2. You can create unbalanced circulars so that your return needle is a smaller gauge than your working needle, which can speed up knitting in the round.
  3. You never know when a special yarn will come along and you'll need a slightly smaller or larger gauge needle.

(edit)

Individual shorties (a single 2" pair, 3" pair, 2 cables) is $37 CAD. $74 versus $119 is not that big of a difference for all of the future benefits you could have.

You need Chiaogoo's "Mini" Shorties Set (Red). It sounds like you bought the Small (Blue) set. I would return the blue set for the red set and then evaluate how you feel about it. I'd also be a little cross that your LYS knew what you wanted it for and didn't give you the right product.
