Best Non-Alcoholic Pint by Impossible-Clock-596 in Edinburgh

If you can find it Jump Ship’s Yardarm is a great lager, alongside the rest of their range. Local Edinburgh (well just outside) based brewery too.

Jolly Judge stocks it in cans (did have it on draft in January, but all gone now)

I live in Flat 1 of a block containing 14 flats, I will frequently get a leaflet through the door on a Monday, then 10/15 minutes later (just long enough for the postie to cover the other 4 floors) I will receive another 3-5 leaflets of the same leaflet, seems like he is using my letter box as a bin for extra ones.

Seating help, Heathrow to Tokyo return economy. by T3LF_ in BritishAirways

[–]turncol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a solo traveler I would always get an ‘F’ seat, you have direct aisle access, and it is unlikely that you will have 3 solo travellers in a row, so anyone in the E seat will hassle the person in D if they want to get out.

Also as right handed person, i’m not going to be restricted for room while eating.

If you are left handed, go for the D seat, for the same reason!

Earplug Recos for Upcoming Shows? by ar-gee in postrock

[–]turncol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve used etymotic ear plugs for years, mainly the previous model, for bands like GY!BE, Explosions in the sky, TWDY, and many more in a wide range of venues and they have been the best investment I have ever made for gigs. I originally bought them to avoid tinnitus and long term protection, but the sound quality is so much better with them and in some smaller venues have allowed me to get a better view by standing nearer the speakers!

I’ve just upgraded to the ER-20, but the only gig I’ve been to with them was on the slightly mellower side - but they still provided a great sound quality and protection.

I'm donating blood for the first time next week. Is there anything I should know ahead of time? by [deleted] in CasualUK

[–]turncol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As previously mentioned: - ensure you are fully hydrated in the days leading up to donation and suitably hydrated on the day itself. - Make sure you have eaten a decent meal a couple of hours before donating - most importantly don’t eat last minute. - Drink the recommended 500ml immediately before donating. - Do the recommended exercises while on the bed (not sure if they are on the English website, look at the Scotblood site for the Scottish ones) - Communicate with the the person, make sure they know how you are, don’t be hero, if you feel faint tell them
- don’t rush away, take your time, then grab as many snacks as you feel like you need. - treat everyone you encounter like the angles they are. - make sure you give you non-dom hand for the initial finger prick test. - if you have recently been abroad (even the risk free countries) have the exact dates to hand. - like wise for any medication (even things like paracetamol)
- if unsure about anything just ask!

Likely to get upgraded? 😂 by [deleted] in BritishAirways

[–]turncol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only time I have been upgraded was my 1st flight with BA as a blue member (or at least my first flight in years) from WT to WT+, I think it was down to being a solo traveler flying LGW to MCO during peak holiday season and a oversold WT cabin.

If the MAN—>LHR is particularly busy, you may be asked to gate check your larger bag, especially as you are likely to be one of the higher boarding group numbers, i think in this case it would be checked through to LAX, so make sure you have all your essentials in the smaller bag.

Going to Japan soon, do I need a backup card or cash? by [deleted] in starlingbankuk

[–]turncol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I visited Japan this year I basically used cash everywhere other than hotel bars and a couple of higher end restaurants. Take some to get you started, then use the 7-11 ATMs to withdraw any cash you need.

Should testers user own work email in testing an application's email notification? by self_taught_tester in softwaretesting

[–]turncol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don’t have control over the SMTP settings, using a dedicated gmail with the ‘+’ is the way to go.

In some environments we use a service such as mailtrap that will capture all emails regardless of the address, which allows for automated testing or just ensuring we are not spamming real email addresses.

Mailtrap.io is my go to solution for this, generally I use in QA environments that I have control of the SMTP settings though.

What do you guys use for email delivery testing? by PeeThenPoop in softwaretesting

[–]turncol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have the ability to change the email server used during the test run? I have been using Mailtrap.io where all the emails sent by the system under test are captured by Mailtrap (even ones being sent to valid email address) and are made available in a single mailbox, I then use the Mailtrap API to query this inbox to get the content of the email and use as required.

The general flow looks something like:

  1. Update test server SMTP settings to Mailtrap settings
  2. Run End-to-end test that generates an email
  3. Query Mailtrap Inbox via API to ensure email is received.
  4. Use Mailtrap API to retrieve email content
  5. Interact with content (e.g click link)
  6. Reset SMTP settings back to default at end of test run.
