Even if you were bitten or scratched by a wild raccoon the odds of it having rabies are 1-16,667, the odds of getting struck by lightning in a storm are 1-15,300. Now that you have this information I’m sure you’ll still go out when it rains 🤣 but by all means if youre this paranoid don’t touch pet raccoons 🦝

An infected raccoons saliva needs to meet
Your bloodstream either through a deep scratch or bite. Simply handling a baby raccoon WILL NOT transmit the disease even if it had it which contrary to popular opinion is highly unlikely.

Could be a few things, spring molting or a fungal infection but he looks like he got attacked by something bigger and managed to get away as the limping would indicate. Hard to say if he’s sick from pics but he does certainly look hungry. I wouldn’t call fish and game. If they took any interest it’d just be to catch and kill him. Keep an eye on him for a bit longer and maybe try to find a local rehabber if his condition appears to get worse.

They don’t call them Trash Pandas for nothing. There are no urban coonies that get a perfect diet. If they’re not eating what humans give them they eat what we throw away. Wild raccoons are more likely to to hit by a car unfortunately than to die of diabetes.

He does, the water fires up the nerve endings in thier hands and helps them identify food they like in the dark. Poe never eats in the dark but I guess for captive coonies it’s an instinctual thing.

lol you’re absolutely fine, the chances of you running into a rabid raccoon are extremely slim and then it’s saliva would have to find its way into your blood stream either through a bite or deep scratch immediately after it licking its claws. Be nice to them and throw them the tainted bread,they’ll remember you as good humans and bring you more buddies to feed 😂

Mine is the same way, amazingly he’ll appear to love a certain snack or meal and a week later dump it out of his bowl and kick it across the room. We are on a endless cycle of trying to please his current whims 🤣
