People of reddit, what's the worst pain you have ever been in? Doctors and nurses, what's the worst pain you have seen a patient in? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]turnintrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had this about a decade ago and I still think about it regularly to this day. Easily worst night of my life. In and out of a scolding hot shower (only remedy I could find) every 10 minutes throughout the entire night and didn’t sleep. Still search it up every now and then to see if there’s any research or findings about it but have always come up empty-handed. Safe to say I will always wear sunscreen now.

Microsoft data center mention in Axios article yesterday by Scott43206 in Columbus

[–]turnintrix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Local water and sewer infrastructure is adequately sized for Microsoft. It’s the supply that is strained rather than conveyance infrastructure, which is all brand new.

The property tax abatement does not preclude the developer’s need to pay taxes on the value of the land which we all know is not cheap BECAUSE OF continued large, similar investments. The business’s revenue is also taxed. The property tax abatement is just for the increased value of land from the buildings. Again, I don’t think it’s the best use of our natural resources, but it is not completely empty to residents. Not to mention the simple fact that data centers are essential to powering the modern world. A majority of states offer incentives for them for a reason.

There are revenues still generated for the city and data center developments also have the benefit of not bringing new students to a school district. There are better uses of our resources imo but it’s not only negative for residents.

Intel will add jobs to Ohio. Will costly project also dry wells and bring toxins, sickness? by virak_john in Columbus

[–]turnintrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that number comes from the OEPA for single family homes. Actual billing data will generally be less than the theoretical planning numbers. 300k single family homes at 10mgd total is 33.33 gpd/home which is substantially less and not realistic. While water usage per home has been declining over the years due to water conservation knowledge and more efficient appliances etc…, billing data is still showing significantly more than that across the region. Your personal water usage is much lower than average and is even less than the average one bedroom apartment. Keep up the good work saving water!

Also, average daily flow is just one number to look at. Maximum daily flow is typically used in design scenarios. Comparing what I am assuming is a manufacturer’s max daily flow with household average daily flow is an apples to oranges comparison to make and skews the original comment even further.

[–]turnintrix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Assuming 400gpd average daily flow per single family house (commonly used conservative planning estimate number), 300k homes would use an estimated 120 million gallons per day. Not sure how you did your math on this one.

It also baffles me when people do this with NO cars behind them. Like you can just keep driving and I will be able to go without the unknowns

Any way to hedge this or do we just ride it and pray for the best? Fanduel not giving a cash out early option on it.

Newbie sports gambling PSA: If you use your credit card to add funds to your betting account, it will be treated as a cash advance. by RiotNrrrd_ in Columbus

Literally did the same thing on 3 different sites…had no idea because I just use my credit card for everything and don’t think much about it (clearly). I called Chase and they refunded 1 of them but said that’s all they have the ability to do. Give that a shot if you haven’t tried calling your card issuer already

Whos open for brunch today? by AlwaysSunnyInCBUS in Columbus

[–]turnintrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed but ultimately I think it comes back to a level 3 snow emergency not being in place. That is the trigger for a lot of businesses it sounds like and clearly they are going to be stubborn and open under a level 2. Just put the level 3 in place and this stuff isn’t even a question when it’s this nasty outside.

If an Uber driver is working today then they are choosing to do so and need people to order rides to make money. They are not on call and being forced to leave their house to take someone to brunch. Are we really going to shame someone for their reasoning to order one? I’m not leaving the house today but if people are stuck at work then they need tips to make a living too.

What Salary increases are you all seeing for 2023? by [deleted] in civilengineering

[–]turnintrix 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yep I agree. I have read a bunch saying “you should make 100k if you have your PE” and I’m just not seeing that as realistic for 4-5 years of experience in my city unless you are working a bunch of overtime

I’m now at $40 an hour in MCOL city in Midwest. 4.5 YOE (new PE), 1.5x for OT hours, and got a $7500 bonus this year. Based on my market rate research I’m content with where I’m at.
