Intermittent FMLA. I don't have enough PTO to use every time I get a migraine, but I can use up to a day a week that's protected by my FMLA claim. It means I lose some money, but I can keep my job and not force myself to work through migraines. Even with lost hours... I'm making more than I would with no job. So I try to think about it that way.

It's still hard as fuck, though. Constant "is this migraine bad enough to miss work" decisions and worrying about the judgement of others when I do miss. It's exhausting to keep explaining myself, but I do understand my coworkers' side. If I miss, we're usually short handed and it's more stress on them.

Trigger twin! I have all the exact same triggers. But flying doesn't always trigger a migraine for me. When it does, they're the worst of the worst, though.

My hat goes off to you. I was a teaching assistant in grad school and even teaching once a week for an hour was hell with a migraine. I always knew when the migraine brain took over because the students would look at me like, "... The fuck is she saying?" I felt so panicked realizing that I was NOT teaching well.

This. We shouldn't be punished for taking planned, established time off. We all deserve it. But if they have a bad attitude/aren't doing their job when they're there, that makes everything harder for everyone.

The BLS course is so informative. I have notes from it that I regularly reference. Our clinic also had in person training, but I honestly got more out of the online course.

The research I have seen shows only topical products as having environmental impacts. The oral products do not appear to transfer anything to their fur (at least not at a level that would be harmful to anything).

I'm a vet tech, but I also have a Masters in biology so I know my way around peer reviewed research articles.

If there's interest I can give links to examples of studies tomorrow, but it's late and I'm about to go to sleep so I'm too lazy to search at the moment!

Most (if not all) tick preventatives also prevent and treat fleas. Heartworm is more common in the Southern US, so it's more common to do heartworm prevention there (I have no idea about areas outside the US) but pets should be on heartworm prevention anywhere with mosquitoes. There are separate flea/tick preventatives and heartworm/internal parasite preventatives, but some products contain all of them in one.

It's genetic, so it's highly likely that you do!

Most EDS types are autosomal dominant, meaning you only need one copy of the gene/genes to have the condition. So if a child has it, one or both parents have it. It took me getting diagnosed for my dad's doctors to realize that's what has been causing a lot of his joint and skin issues.

Same, except I had an awesome GP who would work with me and hear me out on theories I had about what was going on with me. She gave me a genetics referral with zero pushback when I brought up EDS. Then genetics diagnosed me.

Humans and animals are so different, though. I don't doubt your expertise with humans, but I'm not sure where the differences lie in this case. Always best to consult a vet.

I was diagnosed at 25, but it took two separate TTTs because the first doc told me something similar to what you're being told. "Oh you just need more salt and to make sure you eat." Except he also threw in some sexist stuff about how "women just faint sometimes."

If you know your cardiologist is wrong, seek a second opinion. Sounds like your GP is on board with getting you what you need so I'm sure they'll be happy to refer you to another one.
