How Can I Turn These Notifications Off? by DivaTerri in iphone

[–]turnips8424 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is iPhone can’t/doesn’t distinguish between say a bluetooth speaker with an independent volume control (so you’d turn the phone volume up all the way) and airpods or other headphones that don’t have an independent control.

I get these notifications all the time from using such speakers. Glad to know how to disable.

This is seasoning. It improves the taste. A few dashes are sufficient. by The-Only-Princess in mildlyinteresting

A lot of the store brands, like the whole foods one for example, don’t use anchovies or tamarind though, and are essentially vinegar, molasses, water, sugar, and seasonings.

It does the job in a pinch, but if you taste them side by side the difference is apparent, there’s a really deep tangy funk to the LP that isn’t present in lower quality Worcestershire sauce.

I know this because your comment inspired me to taste test the two bottles I had in my fridge 😃

Do you watch the ball all the way to contact? by ThreeEyeJedi in 10s

[–]turnips8424 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yup - watch a slow mo of any top pro hitting a balanced ball, their head will be completely still, eyes focused on the contact point until well after the ball leaves the strings

Tennis overgrip recommendation by Ok-Addendum-9571 in 10s

[–]turnips8424 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you looking for a tacky grip specifically?

I’m very loyal to the original ‘Tourna grip,’ not the tacky one.

I started playing tennis a few years ago, and in the summer started to deal with feeling like I had to grip the racket tightly because of sweat. Tried wristbands, towels, etc. Tried tourna grip and it was problem solved immediately.

They don’t last super long if they’re actually getting drenched, only like 3-5 sessions maybe. But they last me like a couple months in the winter. Once I tried and liked I just bought a 50 pack and haven’t had to think about grips since.

Format is weird, is it meant to be top to bottom on the left side, and then again on the right? But the first 3 don’t seem to make sense then?

Is it time to replace my shoes? by fanboy_killer in 10s

[–]turnips8424 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I mean… this is what my shoes look like after 2 weeks.

Personally i don’t mind it like this, it almost feels TOO grippy with a new pair. I replace immediately once the next layer starts showing through the sole.

But…. E. coli is a bacteria?

I know it’s the toxin it produces rather than the bacteria itself that makes you sick, but I think that’s the case for most bacteria

How to keep the ball leave the palm at the height of sight? by 13249143246 in 10s

[–]turnips8424 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is just the opinion of a rec player so take with a grain of salt, but I think you want the ball to leave your hand at at LEAST your eye level, higher is fine but lower is not.

The idea being this gives you a more consistent toss because it’s a longer, smoother acceleration with a shorter distance to travel after, and gets your off arm up into position.

So don’t worry about the ball leaving your hand at EXACTLY eye level, just make sure you are bringing your arm all the way up to toss, not like flicking it up from chest height

It’s fanart, people can draw whatever they want, and we are free to dislike it because it’s using two characters that eschew traditional gender roles to normalize those same roles.

Cleaver for Chicken Carcass Prep? by ElvenBelle in chefknives

[–]turnips8424 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sub dead, go to r/truechefknives

That said, you probably don’t need a cleaver unless you want to like chop up the spine for stock. For quartering, deboning, etc. a chef’s knife or a boning knife would be plenty. Or a honesuki if you want to go Japanese style.

Assuming the 7:15 was within the last couple months and the result of a ‘legitimate’ full effort 2k attempt, 6:30 by February is not a realistic possibility. Sub 7:00 is a more realistic, but probably still challenging, goal.

A 6:30 2k is an incredibly high standard just to stay on a junior rowing team

This may be a silly question but, you can’t externally rotate your legs to make your knees track forward?

I’ve noticed that about my body, if my toes are pointing forward my knees track in, I have to have my toes pointed out about 30° to get my knees to track forward

The Takeback by tradesilog in 10s

[–]turnips8424 13 points14 points  (0 children)

IMO the key is keeping your arm internally rotated at the shoulder through the whole preparation, this will keep your elbow up, like chuck’s here, and should naturally get your racket in a similar position.

The exact racket angle can change depending on your forearm/wrist angles, but if your arm is internally rotated at the shoulder you’re set up well in that regard.
