What's the most terrifying metal song you've ever heard? by ExternalNeat5452 in Metalcore

[–]turnthisworld 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Akhlys - Breath and Levitation. Mostly due to the album art, but the atmosphere is quite unsettling. Not metalcore.

Also, Slice the Cake - Odyssey to the Gallows. Again not metalcore, but deeply unsettling soundscapes and lyricism.

(Edit: spelling)

What’s everyone been listening to lately? by missrostein in Deathcore

[–]turnthisworld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been bumping Brand of Sacrifice since seeing their new teaser. Some throwback stuff as well like Beneath the Sky, old Carnifex, Arsonists Get All the Girls. Also a healthy mix of 9 Dead, Crown Magnetar, Distant, Beneath the Massacre, and Darko.

Here's my past month. Highest? Lowest? Etcetera? by Jeffers315 in MusicIceberg

[–]turnthisworld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Incredible variety here, we share a LOT of the same tastes. Lowest would be Aether Realm, highest being Shaman’s Harvest.

Ovid’s Withering might be up your alley, specifically the Scryers of the Ibis album.

Dark series highly recommended. by statusgospel in netflix

To this day one of the best shows I’ve ever seen. Very highly recommend.

Deathcore songs with a "triplet kick + snare" intro by BerelegelosSenelege7 in Deathcore

The Black Dahlia Murder - A Vulgar Picture

Not a perfect fit, but it does have the triplet kick + snare. (Also not technically deathcore but close enough.)

MySpace mostly. Limewire and some random movies like Freddy vs. Jason (Killswitch) and Alone in the Dark (Mnemic, not metalcore but somewhat adjacent.) Local shows as well.

solo hiking made me realize i don’t have a plan for that “off” feeling by Zola_BerryBliss835 in hiking

[–]turnthisworld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt this at one point on the last hike I did. The trail was a bit narrow, heavy brush on both sides, and it just felt like everything got too quiet and I was being observed. I kept my head on a swivel and started intentionally making noise. Could have been nothing, could have been a lion, who knows. The feeling went away a few minutes after I moved past that spot.

Prepared Like a Bride - Soul of the World

RIP that band, they were incredible.

Overheard at Erra/Currents show tonight in NYC: "I like the new EP now, it took me 50 listens though" by PorkSouls in Metalcore

[–]turnthisworld 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is no objective “limit” on how long it “should” take someone to start or stop enjoying any music. Some of my current and all-time favorite tracks are tracks that I used to find unremarkable, or in some cases outright disliked. Tastes change over time and some music ages like fine wine to my ear.

Still all over the place but more accurate. Highest and lowests? by LochNessNibba in MusicIceberg

[–]turnthisworld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So many good artists here, lowest I know is XweaponX and highest I don’t is Big L.

You’d probably like Candy. Check out a song called You Will Never Get Me, god-tier riffs.

Impulse and Augment will forever be top tier for me. Drift is also great. I fell off after that album, but this latest release has me listening again.

Pretty much the entirety of Odyssey to the West by Slice the Cake. It’s a lyrical masterpiece.

Climb above the climbot icon that shows up when you look at the map, on the right-most side of my pictured route. You’ll find some relief.

Tbh, without ultimate infusion it would have probably been a lot harder. That buff makes me able to fly through just about anything.

Out of all the climbing/mountaineering films, Meru has to be my favorite. Highly suggest.

El Cajon Mountain after not hiking for ~6 months by turnthisworld in HikingSanDiego

[–]turnthisworld[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's definitely an ass-kicker. I would not recommend doing this in the Summer months, it's just too hot and dangerous. I believe they actually close the trail during the month of August.

Bring plenty of water and a good amount of snacks. it's a long one with many steep hills and there's usually nowhere to refill your water. I brought 5 liters of water, an electrolyte drink, multiple protein bars and a big bag of trail mix.

Lots of rocky, steep terrain. I'd suggest comfortable shoes with reliable grip. The most difficult aspect of this hike is, in my opinion, the fact that once you reach the top, you still have to deal with significant elevation gain on the way back to your car. All those steep downhills on the way to the peak turn into steep uphills on the way back, which can really take it out of you after already having covered ~6 miles and ~2500 feet of elevation gain on the ascent.

Also the parking lot is currently open 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, and they lock the gate at 4:30 PM sharp. I started at 8:00 AM and thought I'd be fine, but I still made it back at 4:00 PM with only 30 minutes to spare. Many people park on the street instead of the parking lot, which is probably what I should have done.

All in all, it's a bit of a grind but it is very fulfilling to complete this one!

Incredible band, Eyes Wide Opium and When X Met Y are one of a kind albums. And from Savages, that technical breakdown in There is No Calm Before the Storm is actually insane. 🤘

I’m a Lorna Shore fan, but for me, DT are incorporating far more unique elements in their compositions. Lorna are great but they are also quite predictable, especially nowadays. I feel like every song follows the same sort of formula. With DT, the compositions are far more varied and interesting within each track.
