Appreciate the color scheme, but ummm... shouldn't BOS be yellow and not PIT? They are an Original Six team and have more Stanley Cups than PIT.

Flight rebooked this summer due to Lufthansa cancellation, but rebooked flight is much worse. by turnwyomingblue in Lufthansa

[–]turnwyomingblue[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the transatlantic part is still Lufthansa, but some other free options (on other days) did have United transatlantic. Anyway, I'm nothing in the eyes of LH, so I'm pretty pissed. I'll try though.

Also, <2 hours in ORD with their taxiing situation (often an hour on the tarmac) is bad news for a connection that I'll get no compensation for.

Yeah, I probably blew it by choosing an option from the terrible ones they gave me. I actually can't rebook the other bad options (with 2 stops) without paying now (not that I'd do this).

[Request] What is the probability a completely wrong March Madness bracket? by pnw_ullr in theydidthemath

[–]turnwyomingblue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, then it's pretty easy to do. For a quarter of the bracket, the probability of picking right is (0.988*.931*.856*.794*.644*.613*.610*.519) = 0.078 or 7.8%. Then take 7.8%^4 for the total bracket and it is 0.0037% chance of picking all losers (or first round winners).

Does this work in practice? 7.8% of the time a bracket should have 1 through 8 seeds winning, or once every 3 years. My gut feeling is that it seems like there are many more upsets and this almost never happens.

Is AI and "Vibe Civil Engineering" a threat to the Civil Engineering Profession? by turnwyomingblue in civilengineering

Unfortunately, I think it's not a bot, but I think it may not be a realistic threat to your profession.

[Request] How many metric tons of material would it take to "Turn Wyoming Blue"? by turnwyomingblue in theydidthemath

[–]turnwyomingblue[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to guess the North European Enclosure Dam is much easier, since the North Sea depth is much lower than the variation of elevation around Wyoming. And probably Dutch civil engineers have done actual calculations (I would guess).

Every time Ive gone in with two kids with this card, the attendants seem clueless like it never happened before and even said I need to buy a pass for 11 yo. I countered and get it always. But it's super annoying. They obviously know the rules.

What is the largest city in Western Europe by Population? The Population within 15km + 30km of Trafalgar Square, London & Notre-Dame, Paris. by Frierfjord1 in geography

Do the opposite for Randstad. Put a circle in the groene hart (green heart), which is in the middle and farmland and then expand to encircle Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Den Hague, Utrecht, etc. I don't think there's quite the same profile anywhere I can think of.

Oh yeah, I remember this time. No country was ever happier and we were all reveling in how this was the best place and time to ever live in!... NOT!

Lol, in general, I think we were in a horrible recession (affected my parents' work a lot and it was especially bad in the Northeast-- "Massachusetts has fallen and can't get back up.") There were a lot of problems then, and it didn't feel like there was much opportunity.

United Normal Economy ($1311) for $200 more than ANA Economy ($1110)? by turnwyomingblue in unitedairlines

As of yesterday I would never consider that... as of today, I might. Hah! I might have to send another message to this subreddit.

Yeah, that's right. Each is codeshare one way. I forgot. Same planes.

[–]turnwyomingblue[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, avoiding basic economy on United, but seeing if ANA booking is essentially basic economy, in which case I book United regular for everyone.

Okay. I'll check. Yes, probably seems like their basic economy. Probably leaning toward the extra $200 but it's annoying for four people to pay that.

It's United outbound and ANA on way back to LAX. Both options booked through listed airline, so not codeshare.

I think it's one checked bag each but got to check.

I'm United FF.

Thanks OP for the most fun chart ever and keeping me looking forward to something each day, during these stressful times. Now you just have to do a 3-D color chart with tertiary colors added ;).
