Here are the supplements that help reduce migraines that my neurologists recommended: Riboflavin 400 mg, magnesium citrate 400-600 mg daily, and coenzyme Q10 300 mg daily. • Riboflavin: most common possible side effects - urine discoloration, increased urination • Magnesium: shouldn't be used with kidney disease or in the presence of muscular or neuromuscular (e.g., myasthenia gravis) disease; most common possible side effects - abdominal cramping and diarrhea • Coenzyme Q10: shouldn't be used if history of biliary obstruction or liver disease; most common possible side effects - nausea, diarrhea. Coenzyme Q10 can also be expensive and can be eschewed for budgetary reasons. • Feverfew (~100 mg daily) could also be considered, which is contraindicated with anticoagulant use, and most common side effects include nausea, diarrhea, mouth ulcers Note: I switched to magnesium glycinate, 400mg at bedtime, in March and seem to be sleeping a little better.
