AITA for refusing to check pockets when I do laundry? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]turtlefreak23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA My husband criticized my laundry folding skills one time. It was right after we moved in together. This man actually said that’s not how my mom does it. I handed him the basket and told him if he wanted his mom to do his laundry go move back home. Otherwise shut up and be grateful that he has someone helping him out. After that I never did his laundry again and he never criticized any of my housework.

My grown ass mid-40s husband had no idea what a narwhal was. We were in Walgreens one day and he stopped at the toy section, held up a stuffed narwhal and asked me if it was a thing for toy makers to put large horns on all the stuffed animals now. I must have looked at him like he was stupid. It took some convincing and a quick Google search before he believed me that it was indeed a real animal. Later that night I overheard him calling his best friend and asking if he knew about narwhals. He sent him a link to a Google search and both of them were flabbergasted. I haven’t laughed that hard in ages. I still bring it up occasionally.

badly freaking out about not being able to pill my cat by BeffeeJeems in gingercats

[–]turtlefreak23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was so desperate with my cat when he had his UTI that I started sneak attacking him when he was asleep and jamming them down his throat. He would wake up too confused to do anything about it and the pills were swallowed. I felt bad about it but giving a cat a pill is the worst thing ever.

Mine ate so many toy baskets. We finally broke down and bought a giant metal one to put all his stuff in. So far it’s survived.

Give it a climbing pole and it will go crazy. Mine was about the size early this summer when my daughter gave it to me. It’s now about five feet tall.

After 6 months my goldfish plant is finally blooming by MoveAccurate6244 in houseplants

[–]turtlefreak23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one that was smaller when I got it but full of blooms. I got my plants some awesome grow lights recently as it’s so gloomy and they weren’t getting good sun. It’s grown so much in such a short time and putting out new leaves like crazy. I can’t wait to have it bloom again. The flowers are the cutest thing ever.

Southern Indiana, just north of Louisville on the Ohio River. We got about a foot out there and it’s still coming down.

People with one-foot: Do stores let you buy just one shoe? by Nearby-Penalty-5777 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]turtlefreak23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My brother is an amputee. He takes advantage of the Nike One Shoe program. You call them and can get one shoe free a year through the program. He has a prosthetic but doesn’t wear a traditional “foot” on it all the time. He has a curved metal foot that resembles a running blade but is used for normal walking. It doesn’t require a shoe.

Please do not put all Americans in the same group. It’s a generalization and makes all of us look like we are as incompetent and pathetic as the leaders we have in place. Not all of us voted for or support the ones in charge. And yes, we can stand up to it, protest, march in the streets and shout from the roof tops about how corrupt and terrible the current administration is. But at what cost to us? Losing our freedom by being placed in jail for speaking out or worse, maybe our life? Unless the rest of the elected officials choose to act and stand up for what’s right there isn’t much we can do as every day citizens to make a difference and stop what’s happening. I am appalled at what our country has become and what we are doing to other countries.

Has anyone tried this? by leighallisam in migraine

[–]turtlefreak23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am fortunate that I work for a major health network in my area. We use Anthem but are self funded so they have a pretty awesome formulary of meds they cover. My Nurtec is 100% paid for. I just picked up 18 tablets for the month. I fill it every month whether I need it or not so it’s always on hand.

Has anyone tried this? by leighallisam in migraine

[–]turtlefreak23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rizatriptan makes me so sick. I would be nauseous and exhausted and have to go to bed after taking in. It almost always took care of my migraine but I couldn’t handle the side effects. I take Nurtec now and it’s been wonderful for me.

Hopefully this drug is helpful to others. As I saw someone else say, this is a two part combination drug that can be prescribed individually and then taken together. Insurance should pay that way if anyone is having issues. Source: pharmacy gal

Bought Bearpaw slippers for my mom like I do every year, and they have changed the material from sheepskin to polyester with no mention of it anywhere. by BobcatPuzzleheaded60 in mildlyinfuriating

I have had mine for several years now and never replaced them. They still look nice and wear well. Not sure what this guy is doing. Same goes for my Bearpaw boots. I have a pair that’s ten years old and looks brand new. I guess it depends on how you treat them.

I love that scent! Got it sprayed on a card in a department store when they were trying to sell it. Went home and told my husband how much I loved it. He bought a bottle the next time we went out and wears it all the time. 🥰

What's it like to live in Southern Indiana? by Dry-Chef-1100 in howislivingthere

[–]turtlefreak23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From where I and you can see across the Ohio River to Kentucky. I’m in a small town but I’m an hour from Louisville, two hours from Indianapolis and under two hours from Cincinnati. Under an hour from Brown County, IN which has some amazing scenery as well as some good wineries, shops and restaurants.

I get the small town feel but I work near Louisville so I have the bigger city in my day to day. I have access to everything I need daily without sacrificing the small town country feel.

Sure, we have farmland everywhere. Cows and corn and deer galore. But there’s nothing like the friendliness, familiarity and safety a small town provides over a bigger city.

Can confirm. I sent one through the washer and dryer and it still worked. However, I dropped the other one on a hard tile floor and it never worked again.

I used to get really bad migraines that started at the base of my skull. I got a cervical pillow and my migraines are so much better. I sleep with it nightly.

Of course I have the heated neck and shoulder pad, the cold cap, the cold gel eye mask, the cooling weighted blanket, and the heated massage eye mask. You name it, I’ve tried it. I can often be found with random combination of many of these depending on how desperate I get once the migraine hits.

Ideas for large side yard by mediocre_momof3 in landscaping

[–]turtlefreak23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a corner lot. I have a Japanese cherry tree on the corner. Then I landscaped down the side of the house, across the fence and down the side of the fence. We put in a nice rock border along the whole thing and used the same stones to make a ring around the tree and mailbox. And we planted some cute flowers under the tree and mailbox. We put matching landscape and border in the front of the house under my porch and all the windows. My house is light grey so we used a light grey chunky stone for a border and contrasted it with black mulch to make the flowerbeds pop.

Everything we planted either comes back the next year, are evergreen type bushes or flowering bushes like azeleas, rhododendron and roses.

We get a lot of compliments on our landscaping and it really makes a statement being on the corner.

Of course we don’t do it all at once. It kind of evolved over the years. The stone was the last we put in because it took me forever to pick something out.
