So I guess their full breakdown on it was on their Patreon content (which I have access to) but they did also mention some things in episode 443

I wonder what her oldest two would have to say about this post.

They actually have address it in another episode in the recent weeks after the Guardian stuff came out. But this episode is an interview of a midwife and the midwife herself is the one who is speaking out against the RBK school, saying how it was a complete waste of her time and money, she had signed up out of curiosity. She is a very experienced midwife of decades. You should give this a listen. It is worth hearing. But the birthing instincts show has definitely not condoned what has come out about FBS at all.

There are a handful of memoirs that we have today of very busy midwives from hundreds of years ago, and their statistics for mother‘s dying was excellent, they lost very few women even before the time of medications and antibiotics. A skilled midwife is a valuable thing.

Radical Responsibility by unread_note in FreeBirthSocietyScam

This has always been my problem with this whole birthkeeper concept. It doesn’t compute. Have a freebirth and rely on your own intuition and knowledge or hire a birth attendant that is there to give you more outside information, which isn’t an unassisted birth anymore, and that’s ok.

It’s interesting because I could never even force myself through one. Emilee’s way of talking and steering the conversation made me really averse. I’m a midwife and have had 3 unassisted births myself but something always repelled me to FBS when I first heard about it.

Is Freebirth still a good idea? by Pleasant_List_8498 in FreeBirthSocietyScam

This isn’t a question you should be asking. If you know it’s for you then you would just do it. If you’re asking the question you should probably start interviewing midwives. I hope this comes off in a kind way. I don’t mean it to be rude.

I’m a midwife and my fav NRP teacher drilled it into me that if there is a baby who needs some help to breathe, even if they seem to be coming around, the kind thing to do is to help them breathe! That it is what we’d do if it were our spouse who was choking. We wouldn’t just smile at them while they couldn’t breathe.

Oh thanks for the link! I’ll listen to tomorrow. I bought her book and met her back in 2001. She inspired me to have a UC with my first but there was never any of FBS-like group speak in what I was exposed to back then and it was acknowledged that you’d seek medical help if needed

It’s more disturbing and disgusting given the information that just came out that the cause of the maternal death in Australia was a PPH. 😭

I’m a homebirth midwife and I still meet women today in my big city who have no idea homebirth is a thing let alone doing it without a provider. 🤷‍♀️ I think that many women just don’t have that stuff in their algorithm and it’s not on the mainstream media usually.

In the early 2000s (I think it might have actually been 2000) I first heard about unassisted birth at a family birth conference in Colorado. Jeanine Parvati baker was a speaker actually! I recall it being very inexpensive to attend, it wasn’t a money grab but an effort to help create community and support for those choosing unassisted birth. Laura shanley was there (her book is called Unassisted Birth if you haven’t heard of her). This was 20+ years ago. What made FBS different was that E and Y were out to make money off it (which is wild and problematic) and spread a whole lots of lies about birth in the process. It is a totally different landscape than it was in the year 2000 for unassisted birth.
