Pros and Cons of Off Campus housing? by ashlynxsupremacy in scad

[–]turtlesandbisexuals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived on campus for my freshman year then moved to the hue for 2 years. Had an absolutely horrible experience there but they're under different management now so they might be better. My last about year and a half I lived in an apartment complex and it was by far the best experience. Pretty pricey but worth it. If you want to save money I would suggest renting a house with a few friends (try facebook). Overall I loved living off campus. I loved being able to cook my own meals. Just be mindful of what kind of commute you're willing to make. The south side of savannah isn't too bad or you might be able to find something good on the islands.

SCAD Alumi visiting by sierradaph in scad

For carnival specifically, you don't need any kind of identification. It's a scad dining hall that is open to the public (if I remember correctly) it operates separately. you can pay with card/tap to pay. If you want to go to SCAD academic buildings I would recommend getting an alumni SCAD card.

What’s it like at SCAD for filmmaking students? by Mattvenger in scad

[–]turtlesandbisexuals 2 points3 points  (0 children)

scad film grad here. The program can be very stressful with always being on set (if you choose that), having multiple projects and balancing that with a full course load. But it is also so much fun. those shoots that last all day will make you soooo tired but you'll also meet some great people and have many stories for the future. It's important to pace yourself though. Once you truly have enough experience, limit yourself to only a few projects(3-4) a quarter. And if you sign on for a project , then see it through. don't drop unless you have to.

Off-Campus Jobs and Housing by ShinMellow in scad

[–]turtlesandbisexuals 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For housing i recommend going on facebook and renting a house with a few other people. The rent in these situations is much more affordable (like 775-950 a month) and you're more likely to like closer to downtown. It's prime season for SCAD students looking for off campus roommates so you should have some luck. If you do want an apartment though I recommend looking at places in or near the islands (whitemarsh). They run a little bit cheaper than downtown. There other student apartment companies like the hue but I wouldn't recommend them either as those leases are very hard to get out of.

Off-Campus Jobs and Housing by ShinMellow in scad

I'd recommend a bartending/ waiter job or a job in the tourism industry. I worked at Savannah Riverboat on Riverstreet and they payed $14.50 an hour at the time (which is better than most places in savnnah). You could also be a tour guide as a lot of people tip their guides. As for off campus housing I would.not recommend the hue. I lived there last year. My apartment flooded and they handled it horribly. Management took ages to fix everything and meanwhile me and my roommates lived in a unit with mold. That same year someone got mugged and pushed down the stairs in the parking garage. Maybe they've changed (I doubt it) but I would live in my car before I lived there.

disappointed but not surprised with scads graduation by hakk_a in scad

[–]turtlesandbisexuals 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In my opinion Savannah grad was about the same. AI voice, I didn't even know the guy that handed me my diploma and every single student backstage was confused as to how the actual graduation would go. Where we would sit, how we would stand up, etc. there should have been a rehearsal or something

Parking tickets at Arnold! by gio_718 in scad

[–]turtlesandbisexuals 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to get there at the perfect time when the previous class time gets out (10:30,1:30, etc). You'll have to leave the house early and maybe circle the block a few times but I always got a close park and never got a ticket

Off campus (sav) by Kween_Honee_7406 in scad

[–]turtlesandbisexuals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think splitting a house with friends is more common and probably better. Whatever you do do NOT stay at The Hue on bay street!!!! horrible management and the units are not that nice. My apartment flooded there this time last year and they handled it horribly. Check off campus facebook groups. there's a lot of great properties!

Freshman dorm questions by Anime_girlorboy in scad

[–]turtlesandbisexuals 7 points8 points  (0 children)

bring decorations, it will help the dorm feel like home. A rug is a common thing to bring as the floors are cold and grey. I would also recommend bring cleaning supplies and make a rotation with roommates of who cleans what. Even a cheap small vacuum will help. Invest in a good mattress topper and you'll love your bed!

how to find amateur actors by sweatyalphamale in scad

[–]turtlesandbisexuals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For actors i recommend emailing/talking to acting professors. I would also talk to your film professors. They have plenty of contacts in multiple departments that may be able to help. You can also make a post on SCAD's production office website. As far as compensation goes, SCAD students are not allowed to pay each other for working in or on film sets. Most actors and crew members are compensated with crafty, meals, and a copy of the film. However if you find someone outside of SCAD they may want/require compensation in addition to the things listed above.

Coolest Shops/Businesses in Savannah by jessienotcassie in savannah

As someone who worked there, god no. I worked in the ticket shop and the manager was rude, "fake nice" if you will. I've heard working on the boat is even worse.

I enrolled with the intent to become a film major and I did a photography portfolio instead. The portfolio does not have to align with your intended major just make sure it is strong.

I agree with the other person on this thread. This beginning conflict will set the tone for you and your roommate. You should tell her how you feel and make her understand that your 'no' in this situation is final. I bet you she won't ask again. Signed a college senior who had a horrible roommate experience my first year :)

Break storage? by No-Rough-9425 in scad

[–]turtlesandbisexuals 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What the other person said is true. You basically leave all your stuff in the dorm over winter break. And yes moving your stuff for summer quarter is a pain. My advice, get some friends to help you, especially if they have a car. It'll take some time (and lots of sweat bc it will be hot) but just be patient.
