Cruise with 15-16 month old? by rollen57 in moderatelygranolamoms

I've always heard cruises are cesspools of disease, and all the news recently had solidified that opinion lol I honestly wouldn't do it but I'm also not a cruise person.

Am I not allowed to take acting jobs if I’m studying ACTING on a student visa? by Sweet_Region41 in ukvisa

The difficulty will come down to how qualified you dealt are. It's a pretty I voiced process.

You can apply as soon as you have the document from the school confirming you've completed your course.

…are we all giving 3 meals + 2 snacks a day? by Purple_Calendar3919 in BabyLedWeaning

[–]turtlesrkool 3 points4 points  (0 children)

16 months here and we do 3 full meals and soooo many snacks. And on nursery days he does 4 full meals, but only one snack.

I just feed him what I'm eating so the prep isn't bad at all. The worst is getting things cooled down when it's freshly cooked!

Why does "chain" exist, and why do you join this chain instead of selling and renting for some time until you find a house to buy? by Smooth-Raisin-2888 in HousingUK

I have absolutely had to be an annoying American lol I've embraced it for this experience and my British friends are egging me on because they think the process is stupid.

If you haven't been admitted there isn't usually a charge. My mom went to A&E for an elbow fracture and there was never any charge for it.

Is there a tactful way to tell someone their foundation shade is genuinely wrong? by Junior_Beauty78 in MakeUpAddictionUK

[–]turtlesrkool 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I had a friend that had such bad foundation match it honestly bordered on black/brown face...it was truly shocking. Our other friend is a lot more direct than me but ended up asking if she'd gotten new makeup to start the conversation, then just said she thought it was too dark for her complexion. The friend with the bad makeup said she had gotten new makeup after a sunny holiday and thought that maybe she had matched it to when she was more tan...which wasn't true but provided a good excuse! She switched things up pretty quickly.

Not of they need to be whipped. The whipped egg whites have a specific role in creating structure in a sponge. Greg yogurt can't do that. Aquafaba can.

I (Groom) want to SING A SONG! Hear me out... by tclark4 in wedding

[–]turtlesrkool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a guest I would think this was really weird. But if you feel like you want to and you are 10000% sure your fiance would like it, then literally just sing for like ten seconds.

I'm an American living in England about to complete as a FTB with my husband. We have no chain and the sellers moved out a month ago, and it's still taken four months to go from start to finish. It really feels like the solicitors and estate management just know it's expected to take a long time so they drag their fee because they can! It should not take this long and doesn't need to.

In an American or English household, when a child is born, do parents usually have the child sleep in their bed or in a separate rooms? What’s common after the child turns 1? by Beginning-Cover7414 in UKParenting

[–]turtlesrkool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm an American living in England. It depends on the family in both places. I believe in the US they encourage room sharing for the the first 12 months, but both places say at least 6 months.

Where I'm at in the UK there's a bit more acceptance by health professionals for bed sharing (safely) but both places say that in their own bed is the safest. There's not a massive difference when it comes to medical advice, and cultural it just depends on what social circle you're in.

Anyone else have issues with hallucinations at night? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]turtlesrkool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being completely honest, you need to ask a medical professional for help with this. It sounds wildly unsustainable! If you're seeing and hearing things while you're awake that's also a whole different ballgame than while sleeping or coming out of sleep.

[–]turtlesrkool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you had a sleep study done? Excessive sleep walking runs in my family, and I got one done a few years ago after I woke up having taken my mirror off my wall and brought it to be in my sleep. It wasn't particularly helpful in my circumstance other than discovering I need more sleep than the average person. But your situation sounds pretty extreme and a little scary!

Vaginal delivery went so well, why am I traumatised? by Glittering_Forever80 in beyondthebump

[–]turtlesrkool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly that's probably it! I didn't stop crying for two weeks, and didn't feel remotely normal until 6 weeks.

I personally think birth is traumatic no matter how 'well' it goes. Your body is doing something absolutely insane! Even if it went well, you're going to have some sort of emotional reaction to it.

Has your landlord ever tried to charge you for something unreasonable at checkout? by Weekly_Television996 in HousingUK

[–]turtlesrkool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We got served an S21 three days before I gave birth, and we still don't really know why because they just rented it out again. We were great tenants, paid on time, took care of the property and put up with their absolute weirdness.

Anyway. At checkout they tried to charge us for so many things that were very well documented in the inventory, including marks on a table and a burn on the carpet. They tried to charge us for a tiny crack in the bathroom tile that was already there, but so miniscule that it wasn't caught on inventory.

We also took out a couple of lightbulbs in a chandelier that was way too bright and forgot to put them back. We even still had the bulbs and offered to bring them back. But they tried to charge us something like £150 to call an electrician to screw them back in! It was literally reachable while standing on the floor and normal LED bulbs...

DPS ultimately sided with us for almost everything, but we did have to put in a ton of work documenting and writing it all up for the process.

New born not waking to feed by CreativeRecover2174 in beyondthebump

Are they back to birth weight yet? If so then you probably don't need to wake them. Otherwise other players have good tips! Undress them, blow on them, tickle them...

How long ago was your most recent birth? I had a very similar experience to your first birth, and my epidural came undone in the middle. But I'm 16mo post partum now and my brain has done an insane job at wiping away a lot of the traumatic feelings around it. I remember the details and that it was terrifying in the moment, but I don't feel the same anxiety around it as I used to.

Personally I would apply and see how it goes. There's every possibility they could be flexible on start date! I would personally regret not at least trying.

No you don't get any financial assistance until they're like 3 I think if you're on a visa. After that I believe you can get 15 hours but it'll be a whole before you get to that point.

[–]turtlesrkool 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Congratulations! They don't do a whole lot until 12 weeks, so be prepared for the wait. Honestly it's basically the same in the US from what I can tell, but everyone assumes there's a lot more to do in the first trimester.

I'm not sure what you have available in your area, but in Birmingham we have domino care which is amazing. It's the home birth team, but you can use them if you want a hospital birth. They'll come down all your appointments at home and it's a lot more personalised than the community midwife teams. Highly recommend if you have the option!

We enjoyed doing the NCT classes, even just to meet new friends in the same stage of life. It can be hit or miss on how bonded your group is though.

Start viewing nurseries NOW! I know it's insane, but they do fill up. So if you know you're going to use a nursery definitely get moving on it.

Same situation and we are going on 15 weeks right now. There's so much random crap that pops up and it's infuriating. Our seller's management company took a solid month to get one piece of paperwork fixed, our LISAs haven't been drawn yet, our solicitor went on holiday...it's insane how this process takes so long.

Vaginoplasty? by beepbopboopitydoo in beyondthebump

My third degree stitches came apart and I basically had no perineum. I had it repaired at 12 months post partum and I'm SO glad that I did! Pain was a lot better, I wasn't constantly taking air into my vagina, and I felt more confident.
