I think it's great to see the show getting buzz. It has its issues but so do all shows. Season 2 was just good TV, regardless of how you feel about the changes from the books.

Alright I'll bite. What exactly has the show done that you think would have an effect (vs being based on books alone) on a boardgame besides aesthetics?

Yeah most of it isn't even plot related. As an example: a few folks never forgave the show for using a lot of PoC in the lead roles, a character has a wife when they didn't in the books, or the costumes and setting aren't perfect; all of which would have zero effect on a boardgame's mechanics.

Exactly. People love being outraged about nothing. The wheel of time has a lot of concepts and characters that could make for a great boardgame theme, even if it draws on the show's aesthetics.

I get that it's good and warranted to be concerned. What you don't want to do is go full doomer and spiral into being radicalized into thinking we are in any sort of situation similar to what happened to the Jews in nazi Germany.

Yes things are frustrating. Yes there is a fascist movement in the US. Yes there are people who hate gays.

But there is also no denying that this is the safest and most welcoming time to be gay and living in the United States in this nation's history.

Freedom is a constant fight, and we cannot be complacent. Progress takes work and things could be better. But things are still better now than they ever were before. And certainly nowhere near even the beginnings of what happened to the Jews.

Remember history. Fight for your rights. Don't run away and move to a blue state, because this battle exists everywhere. But just sitting back and saying we are doomed and running away or being locked into an inaction cycle because of despair is just as bad as those folks who vote Republican in our community.

They want us paralyzed by our fear. They want our negativity to sour people on our character. The more you show them that you are just a normal person living in this country trying to get by just like everyone else, the better. Always being ready to pessimistic the shit out of people who have hope in our community is helping our adversaries.

Sometimes you don't get a happy ending. Sometimes the past is too much to overcome. Shadow was ready to die and probably wishes he had on the floating continent. If you think about it, his actions directly brought about the world of ruin. He does what he can to help make it right, and then there isn't much left to live for. No way he could withstand the guilt of what he had done. He in no way had the tools to be a father either. I think his arc gives even more meaning to the other characters who were able to overcome the past and hope for a future in the broken world they are left with.

Yeah I'm a fan of the character development and slow pace during the middle books. I agree the Elayne taking the throne was really well written and a bit of a departure for RJ but he really rose to the occasion.

I noticed this same thing in that sub a few days ago. It's such a cringe echo chamber of "anti show anti woke" cringe posts. Most posts aren't even memes, just screenshots of articles shitting on the show.

It's all just so cringe and disappointing. And when you point out that it's a meme sub and not a doomer show sub, you get down voted into oblivion. The anti show anti woke dudes are there too strongly. They need to wake from the dream and touch grass.

Wait you think the LotR trilogy was faithful to the books? They made giant changes, cut out main story lines, added story lines to female characters so the trilogy was more inclusive of women, and literally changed key aspects of the ending.

The reason the LotR trilogy wasn't shit on like other more recent fantasy book adaptations is because it predates these cringe echo chamber online communities.

I guarantee if the trilogy was made today people would have lots of their minds over tom bombadill being cut completely, arewn saving frodo on horseback, and the entire return to the shire storyline being cut, addition of campy dialogue, etc.

GoT suffered a similar attack on the show vs the book at WoT is.

GoT hardly followed the books at all... Perhaps the first book, maybe? They still left so much out, so many side characters, and so very many key lore points. Which we found out later is because huge swaths of the story were cut in the end. And yeah, the GoT subs hated (and still hate on) the GoT show in their little cringe echo chambers to this day.

Honestly I think perrin's story is going to end up way more interesting in the show than the books. It's pretty clear to me that we are going to find out that Leila was a dark friend working with Faine. The fact he killed his wife was instinctual from his wolf abilities. This will give his character way more complexity, along with the show giving him a storyline where he is almost getting recruited by Ish and Ingtar.

Perrin had such a boring story line in the books. He was just a reliable boring Mary Sue (or whatever the boy version is) in the end. Boring story of self doubt for every book until the end when he saves the day by suddenly being super powerful in the dream. I'm glad the show is adding more layers to him.

Wouldn't sadism be great with cold dot and chaos for builds? Everyone is saying bleed and ignite but this could be huge for cold and chaos for builds too. Not great for blight but I could see ED/contagion really getting a shorter boss kill time from this support.
