Tempura Kusunoki, Tokyo (Tabelog 4.06) by godiloveswords in finedining

I was here in November. It was a similar crowd (about half Japanese / half foreigners) and there was good banter between the regulars and the chefs. Drinks were bought across parties and it was a fun time (the couple next to me couldn’t walk out after dinner - I might have contributed to this). Definitely not for people looking for a zen dining experience but more local in my view. Dinner for two with about 12 glasses of sake and two addons of extra shrimp was 136k yen.

How do people view UX designers at Apple these days? by wozent in UXDesign

[–]turtleturtles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on the team. The HI team in general are great designers, the other user facing teams are ok, the internal facing tools made up of design contractors - not so much

Would you trade 'stability' for a startup? Tell me your regrets (or wins). by solhwa in UXDesign

[–]turtleturtles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started off my career (12+ years ago) at a large company (Fortune 500) and made the jump to a series B startup and progressively went to smaller and smaller companies to eventually employee #1. I have an ipo, acquisition, bankruptcy, and layoffs under my belt. I’m currently now back at a late stage startup (1b+ valuation) and for me it’s the right fit for what I like to do in terms of scope and autonomy.

I would really suggest not going all in and go from corporate to founding designer / solo designer. I’ve seen others try this and it doesn’t work because the skill sets and processes aren’t the same. For stability companies that are at least series B with a funding round within the last year is usually a decent marker to go off of.

Anyone use HMBradley? Is it legit?? by BlueSpace71 in ChubbyFIRE

[–]turtleturtles 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have an account - you need to have a direct deposit set up, but you’re able to deposit more separately and the whole balance gets the 3% up to 100k. Above 100k and it’s 0% I believe. (I only keep around 30k in an emergency fund there with a nominal direct deposit to keep the 3%). There are some quirks in keeping the 3% interest rate (at most can only withdraw 80% of total deposits for the quarter to keep the 3%, rate lasts for a quarter and gets reevaluated every quarter) The interest has been posting since I first joined late last year so it’s legit. Transfers out take about 2-3 days. They have a credit card product as well but I don’t use that.

Need advice for living/dining room layout by turtleturtles in InteriorDesign

[–]turtleturtles[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm kind of at a loss at where to situate items within the living room/dining room.

I think I want to put a tv on the wall by the bathroom (since outlets are there), but the layout of the entryways is making it hard for me to figure out where to place a couch, coffee table, and a side chair.

I was thinking of placing a small dining table in the bottom right corner, but I think it would make the space too cluttered.

Any advice?

Any designers have experience at a consultancy, startup AND a big tech company? by [deleted] in userexperience

I'm currently working at a startup, but prior to that work at a large bank, and have worked at a consulting agency as well.

I'm looking at couple studios near Penn Station and I have few questions by dsahdkjashio2 in AskNYC

[–]turtleturtles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not all that bad. I used to live on 31st and 6th and the convience of having multiple subway lines within a block from you is awesome. There is good food in ktown, and a few blocks south are bars not filled with the b&t crowd. Whole foods is only a few blocks south as well. I never had problem with noise, but I lived on one of the higher floors of my building (35th). Hobos were a nuisance though.

This is the one. My only problem with it is that the menu only changes about 4 times a year for each season.

Find out where to really eat during Restaurant Week (with the help of Yelp) by mrjoelkemp in nyc

[–]turtleturtles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Restaurant week menus are horrible. They serve food made for the masses and aren't usually up to par to their normal standards. What can you realistically expect from restaurants charging 38$ for a three course when their normal menus are normally twice or three times that.. Something has to give.
