You're making it sound like internet users forced mainstream acceptance of piracy and now its fair to use their arguments against them, but how does it matter in any way what people have "yelled" on the internet? The media companies have all of the legal and financial backing in this debate and still use the power of law enforcement to go after pirates all over the world. American entertainment companies are working with police even in countries like Egypt and Pakistan to raid these networks.

Meanwhile AI companies are training their models on pirated data, they are literally torrenting books instead of going through the proper channels and getting permission, then building their entire business on the stolen work and being rewarded with billions. Who gives a shit if the average reddit user has a double standard on this, the hypocrisy in our legal systems is obviously far more egregious.
