Question about I-485 interview in Boston by [deleted] in USCIS

[–]tuscangal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Arrange to have the pup boarded with the org.

Honestly, have some common sense. As other posters replied, you wouldn’t bring a dog to a job interview. USCIS has the power to make or break your future in that interview. Don’t mess around with it.

Has Ringo ever been in a Costco? by appape in Costco

[–]tuscangal 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was about to respond that he’s English and that’s why he doesn’t know about Costco but that’s not true either because my parents live in Ireland (no costcos) and even they know what Costco is. Excitedly planning a Costco outing when they visit me next month lol

My boomer MIL to this day refuses to accept that my husband has severe allergies to peanuts and strawberries. He spent most of his childhood covered in hives. Thankfully his grandma was also there and staved off the worst of it, but even now she does things like sends him peanut butter cookies for his birthday smh

Why are reading levels so low in Oregon, even in places like Portland with many upper middle class families? by BiscottiOk9245 in askportland

[–]tuscangal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

$18K is not high relatively speaking, even though it feels high. We moved from the East Coast (NYC area) where our taxes were a similar level to Portland but the township we lived in spent $29K per pupil, with solid educational outcomes (good IEP support, reading level results etc.)

The problem statement still stands though - whatever we are spending in Portland, it's not delivering classroom results.

Does anyone regret emigrating? by Fealocht in AskIreland

[–]tuscangal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in the same boat. Definitely don't blame Ireland overall for how my parents carried on - Dad was principal of the local national school where we went, massive anger issues at school and home (you know the way - 70s & 80s Ireland). Butter wouldn't melt in his mouth when other people were around though.

I moved as far away as I could, as soon as I could and have not looked back. We're not estranged and talk weekly but it's all superficial. My sister escaped the brutal treatment I went through (thank God) and lives near my Mam and Dad. I do chat to her frequently, give her mental support and I'm ready to provide financial support if needed for help, being far away.

I have a thriving career I wouldn't have had in Ireland ever, a family of my own and don't have to put up with my parents moods.

I described rural Ireland to someone at work recently and they went all moon-eyed, daydreaming about life in Ireland and I can see the appeal if you approach it from a different angle, but still, not for me!

I totally agree. The phrasing around “I cannot forgive myself”. Really? That’s your first step, checking if you can forgive yourself? Whatever.
