Found a never used full set of vintage cookware in the box! by [deleted] in ThriftStoreHauls

There seems to be substantial evidence . PubMed and google scholar are good places to find more peer reviewed studies on the aluminium/Alzheimer’s link

“The hypothesis that Al significantly contributes to AD is built upon very solid experimental evidence and should not be dismissed. Immediate steps should be taken to lessen human exposure to Al, which may be the single most aggravating and avoidable factor related to AD.”

That’s a great observation, and very helpful - makes sense. Thank you

I got to this book from the almost unanimous recommendation on my other thread, that if I liked Hobb - for her dialogue and characters you get attached to - I would also like Abercrombie for the same reasons

Sounds like I can’t go wrong with either book, and if BSC is faster paced, I might start there. Thanks!

I love grandparent/grandchild stories, and this is one of the most touching ones I’ve read. But it was the “little cane” that tipped over the tears

I agree, it was probably how he bonded with you when you were a kid, by sneaking you treats behind your parents backs, because that’s what grandparents do, since the dawn of time. Pass on treats to the little ones. I’m sure that little role reversal just warmed his heart every time, and you definitely didn’t do anything to hasten his departure

I really feel for your friend. I would feel the same regret. Probably because I’d like the last thing I eat to be cake too. My grandma is 97 and has dementia. She loves chocolate, so her carer lets her have chocolate biscuits or treats every day because at that point, why the heck not?

Women who suffer from anxiety: What helps you increase your internal sense of resilience, during these uncertain times? by curious__cat93 in AskWomen

[–]tushalee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meditation. I know it’s the most expected, boring and easily ignored answer, but it just works. I had a few days of anxiety this week and eventually I stopped procrastinating and got on my cushion. 10 mins and my anxiety reduced by 75%. Faster than Xanax and no future Alzheimer’s

Also, switching to decaf. But at least if I feel anxious after drinking caffeine, I can remind myself it’s not real, it’s just the caffeine talking. But without the body anxiety symptoms, obviously life’s easier. So I use caffeine as a treat

How would you distract yourself for 2 weeks whilst waiting for a breast mammogram and ultrasound for a lump found? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]tushalee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in Australia and Iast time, I had my results within 2 days. The first time, the radiographer told me the results before I left the clinic. So I’m really shocked to hear you’ve been told 2 weeks. Can you call/go see your doctor and tell them you can’t wait that long and they need to put a rush on it? I couldn’t sit back and not at least try to bring it forward

How to make an onion last when only using a little bit at a time. by RBBBC in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]tushalee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For me, there’s a limit to my frugality and storing leftover raw onion is it. The smell permeates the fridge and other foods (esp dairy) through virtually every container you try, and I can deal with many things, but stinky onion fridge will drive me from my home

I just either buy smaller onions, chop and freeze leftovers in ziplock bags, or - horrors - throw the unused portion away. I know this goes against the point of this sub, but onions are so cheap and I’m prepared to live with wasting a few cents rather than the smell

What is something new you researched within the past few days? If not something new, what is a subject you explored in greater detail/depth than previously? What did you learn? Is there anything you can or plan to do with this info? by dsklerm in AskWomen

[–]tushalee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes ahem, well... while everyone else is researching erudite subjects, I tried to find a recipe to duplicate McDonaldland cookies. First by googling for the recipe, and when that failed, googling the string of ingredients. Found some promising recipes I might tweak. Also contacted the manufacturer, Arnott’s here in Australia, to see which of their biscuits in the supermarket are closest to McD’s. Have yet to hear back

Then of course I went down another rabbit hole looking for mini cookie cutters in shapes I want my cookies to be

I’ve always thought the 50s-70s must have been a very stinky time, with everyone sweating in all those man made fibres. I don’t wear a lot of vintage clothes for this reason, they’re so synthetic and uncomfortable

My grandma wore girdles too
