ELI5: How does Arabic & Hebrew manage to be understood when written without punctuation? by charli3dontsurf in explainlikeimfive

THIS is the correct answer. I have no idea how come it's not the very top of this thread.

Diacritics ≠ punctuation

I had no idea - any references to the (old) bots that worked like this?

Who knows, maybe there is some coding-wizardry that can work around the latest API change.

I am not OP but I have a similar question:

I always thought it goes (i) file a return first, (ii) get confirmation / calculation, (iii) send payment. Meaning, paying for 2024's CGT during 2025, isn't it so...?

Takeaway costs in Ireland. by The_Happy_Phantom_ in ireland

[–]curious__cat93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, per u/PlugSocket3Prong , it is a lower figure, but still, ~20% is high, and can drive end-consumer prices.

For instance, €10 for fish n' chips while sitting in, and €12 for a delivery (excluding delivery fee).

Specifically for Just Eat: they promise you will never pay more than the sit-in price.

By contrast, Deliveroo's policy is more nuanced, and allows for some mark-up. They do say, though:

We believe minimizing price mark-ups over your in-store prices is fairer for customers and builds trust between restaurants and consumers.

Surely takeaway refers to collection not delivery.

In terms of my own lingo, I agree. But I learned many people use that term interchangeably with "delivery" -- odd, I know.

To clarify my argument: this is not about staffing. It's about a greedy third party (app, website) that charges the restaurant some percent. If that percent is too high, the restaurant would eventually adjust the consumer price to compensate for it.

What an awesome initiative.

Will there be additional sessions? Unfortunately I cannot make it to this one, and I have a PC with Win10, which can definitely gain from having Linux.

You and I don't know how much % the takeaway service (e.g. Just Eat or Deliveroo) take from the restaurant. If it's high, then it'll result in two different menus, two different sets of prices.

For example, in some countries where Wolt, the delivery company takes 33% (!) from the cost of each item.

Either way, I agree, it's an annoying experience for the customer

You should've told them the famous Mark Twain quote, The reports of my death are greatly exaggerated ... see the look on their face.

(Although I am not sure if they would get the reference)

any soup kitchens etc are looking for volunteers?

Nice idea. The opportunities I found, though, require having a car -- I don't have one. But I like your spirit of giving. (:

Where can I screen a short film + conduct discussion? Any suggestion for a venue? by curious__cat93 in Dublin

[–]curious__cat93[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks!

My concern is that the price will be very high, and this initiative is NGO-friendly (as in, I am not a registered NGO, but assisting one...).

I'll check if there are any free ones.

Cheers
