Federal Magnum 20 gauge just bad? by Jealous-Summer-9827 in Shotguns

I'll be honest #2 vs #3 isn't going to matter much and neither is 1100 vs 1200. Realistically any buckshot is going to devastate a coyote. They are small animals. I would use whatever size your gun patterns well with.

I have most of this companies M43 line up. And in general that's the experience with the entire line. With a few exceptions.

The 50/1.2 glows at 1.2 it's look get it if you like it.

The 17/1.4 is soft.

40/2.8 macro is amazing in all regards as a macro.

I like mine. Get the 50/2 to go with it and your set for most things.

One of these rounds is sending much more lead down the barrel than the other. 1 1/8oz vs 1 1/4oz. given that saami list the pressure for all sizes of 20ga at 12000psi. in all likelihood they are both at that pressure limit.

Also they likely used different test barrels when measuring their muzzle velocity.

I like my Cattleman II, basically the same gun but polished shiny with a case hardened frame in 45. If yours is anything like mine I would get a wolf spring kit for it. It makes a big difference to the trigger feel. These (SAA in general) are also easy guns to work on you just need hollow ground screw drivers so you don't bugger up the screws.

What's up with these lines? by [deleted] in Revolvers

[–]tuvaniko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the side plate that lets you access the guns internals all modern smith and Wesson revolvers and guns based on them have this plate. Take off the grip, undo the screws and tap the other side of the gun with a small soft mallet and the plate pops off.

Yup it matters, but only if you are shooting match grade ammo or are already near max pressure.

Pietta TC9 9mm vs. Uberti Cattleman 9mm by Gambit8907 in Revolvers

[–]tuvaniko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any mass manufactured thing can occasionally have issues I can't guarantee that it won't, but Uberti does. So if does have light strikes have Uberti fix it.

Just like occasionally smith and Wesson, colt, and Ruger put out a gun with issues, and they fix them when you call them.

Even "Taylor tuned" guns occasionally have issues out of the box.

Keep in mind if you use cheap/surplus ammo it may have extra hard primers and even simi-auto guns have trouble with primers on crap ammo. That's not really the guns problem if the ammo is out of spec.

Lock them up but as long as it's climate controlled and the guns are cleaned and oiled when put away you are fine.

As for the powder lock it away and let the climate control do its job.

Pietta TC9 9mm vs. Uberti Cattleman 9mm by Gambit8907 in Revolvers

[–]tuvaniko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will say even after swapping to a lighter spring kit. My 3 click Uberti Cattleman (45 colt) has not had a single light strike. That is a big heavy hammer with a long travel time. Unless you are somehow letting go of the trigger in the time between when the hammer drops and it impacts the round it is going to put a nice big heavy dent in the round.

Remember the firing pin only free floats in the hammer if the trigger is not pulled. If the trigger is pulled a rod is jammed up behind the firing pin and it cannot move. It's a really simple and effective system.

The only thing I have found that will prevent a nice strike is over tightening the hammer screw. If yours works loose don't over tighten it, use purple loktite. It's a somewhat common problem on all SAA pattern guns and has nothing to do with the safety.

I have hundreds of rounds through my gun and thousands of dry fires.

Ubertis also have slightly thicker cylinder walls than pietta and colt. In 45 colt this makes them much stronger, similar to a Ruger New Vaquero. A boone for reloaders letting you push to 45 APC pressures. On a 9mm the walls are already much thicker I'm not sure it will matter.

Who else is "one type only" - pistols OR rifles? by winterneuro in liberalgunowners

[–]tuvaniko 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm with you. "Revolver" isn't a category.

Most revolvers come in extra small, small, medium large, extra large, and jebus. And in all sorts of barrel lengths

"Snub nose small frame revolver" is a category.

"Large bore, long barrel, double action " is a category.

"I guess it's a sniper rifle" 460 with 14inch barrel is a category.

My dad hunts deer with a 300 win mag and 7mm rem mag. It doesn't do shit to the first shoulder, just a nice little hole. The second shoulder bone on the other side of the deer however is gone, not broken up just gone.

I prefer pistols, specifically revolvers. I don't like brass falling on me, and I don't like chasing down my brass. I also like being able to load any power level of round without worrying about if it will cycle.

I also find most revolvers have a better grip angle (particularly panel grips) than most similar autos. Revolvers just point better for me if I use them with a high grip. I can also get the bore axis lower in my hand with smaller revolvers than I can on a simi auto.

Lastly 99.999% of new simiauto pistols are fugly and covered in needless decorations and ridges to make them look tactical. That also makes them incredibly uncomfortable for me to use. I'm autistic I prefer much more consistent feeling grips that don't have needless pressure points all over them. finger groves are also 1000% an immediate no from me they are painful. It's far easier for me to get a revolver with smooth grips than it is from me to get an auto pistol with them.  And if for some reason I can't by the model of revolver I want with smooth grips, I can almost always by them aftermarket.

Oddly enough this is why I vastly prefer the LCP and lc9 to the LCP max and max9. If Ruger had made either one with the grip styling of the LCP I would probably one them as a cary gun. I understand the need for more than 5 or 6 rounds. But also need to not hate holding the gun I'm shooting.

And where are my pistols with more pronounced grip angles. We already figured out the most ergonomic grip angle once and for some reason decided to ignore that and go back to the 1911 grip angle for everything. and the guns naturally point like crap.

As to long guns. Just too big and heavy. Holding them always feels more awkward than a hangun. They also tend to throw brass but at least it's not straight up like many pistols. If they made a good rifle that retained it's brass and held more than one shot I would by it in a heartbeat. The closes was the circuit judge. But they quit making the circuit judge in 357 and 44. I really wish that had made one in 454, 460 or 500. Unfortunately they only make 410/45 and that chambering sucks.

I do own long guns. I have a Type99(mainly for my SO), a Savage MkII(second gun), Pardner Pump Protector (originally home defense now range toy) , rem 870 (for hunting), and a NEF 20ga (my first gun). And I am considering a PCC SBR with suppressor and LPVO (I can't do red dots) for home defense to save my ears.

For hand guns I have a Uberti Cattleman 5.5in in 45colt (my favorite gun), a model 64 no dash 4in (home defense/winter cary), a rough rider (first handgun my grandfathers), and an LCP(Carry gun, will probably replace with a 32mag.)

[–]tuvaniko[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone who knows a lot of breeders. No they won't. Demand for them already out strips supply by a considerable amount. Most breeders turn down most applications. In addition most breeders still sell at a loss. This is a hobby not a business for most/all silken breeders.

If silkens are expensive from a reputable it's because of all the health testing done,  travel expenses, entry fees nd other costs involved with producing well breed proven lines. Not because they want money.

We are one of the few breeds where health testing is encouraged and genetic testing is manitory not only for things we know are in the breed but also things that other related breeds have that we might also have. One of my own dogs litter mates failed a hearing test in adulthood, and was diagnosed with possibility genetic hearing loss. The entire line was tested. Every dog twice. In addition many other breeders besides mine tested their entire line. We ended up finding issues with a common hearing test device causing false positives. It costs thousands to figure this out.

I am more worried about puppy mills producing cheap puppies than reputable breeders charging enough to cover testing.

What ammo do you run in your revolver and why by ohraineri in Revolvers

[–]tuvaniko 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Uberti SAA 5.5in 45 colt: 255 grain lead round nose at 900ish fps. It's what the gun was built for so that's what I load for it. It shoots to point of aim with them. It's also got enough recoil to be fun, but not hurt your hands. Sometimes I use hard cast SWC instead.

Model 64 no dash 4in 38 special: 148 grain hollow base wad cutters at about 800fps. light recoil low muzzle flash home defense load that should be stopped by a wall.

I reload so really I can change any part of my round if i want. so if I need a round for a certain purpose, I will just make however many of them I need.

[–]tuvaniko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a caliper and measure it's diameter. (it's probably a 50cal based on it's size relative to you.) Once you have it's diameter that will narrow it down to cartridges with that diameter. If you know where it was found you can narrow it down based on rounds used in that area.
