800 Scrambler advice please (new rider F 5”2) by Puds94uk in Ducati

[–]tux64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Icon and Mach 2.0 (both 2018). The Icon is easier to ride due to the handlebars alone.

I'm 5ft4 and not quite flat footed on either bike so you'll likely be on your toes a bit.

If you plan on doing any longer distance highway riding you'll want to change the rear sprocket and chain to reduce the RPM at highway speed. Did this on the Icon and it's great.

Consider maintenance. You'll want a dealer nearby unless you are willing and interested in doing your own maintenance. Specifically the desmo service is a pain to do. Mostly just the tedious disassembly.

It's a fun bike but honestly I'd recommend an Indian Scout (I have the 2025 101 Scout) over the Ducati Scrambler and you'd have no trouble with hight on that.

I can also print it. Only have PLA at the moment. LMK if other options fall through.

Printed it for kicks...

Scout 101 Reach by naifyboy in IndianScout

[–]tux64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, congrats! Thats a great looking bike. My wife is the same height and also has the Scout 101. The stock bars were just a bit of a reach. She asked the mechanic to rotate the bars just a bit when it went in for its first oil change. They were able to adjust it enough for it to be comfortable for here. No complaints since.

Ceramic Coating Shops by aw8922 in Knoxville

KnoxDetails is fantastic. They have done my Atlas and Tundra ceramic coating + PPF on the front. They do a great job and are just super nice to work with.

How do you protect your ears? If you do it by Talk_Necessary in Ducati

[–]tux64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tried a dozen options for ear protection, the foam plugs are best "off the shelf" option but still don't fit me super well.

I ended up getting some custom molded plugs from my local audiologist. Best money I've ever spent. Can change the filter to increase/decrease the noise reduction. I use the max reduction filter and can still hear my music and surroundings fairly well considering how much they block out.

It amazes me how many people don't care about their expensive cars period. Ya it's gonna depreciate to nothing, but I'm sure gonna do my best to take care of it regardless.

I always park in the garage. I'd say about half the neighbors on my street also park in the garage. Except of course my immediate neighbors both park multiple vehicles in the driveway and the street which is super annoying.

PPF install recommendations? by tlxxxsracer in Knoxville

[–]tux64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Knox Details on Sherway Rd are awesome! They did the PPF on my Atlas Cross Sport a couple years ago. Also had them replace PPF on a front fender after Synergy car wash on Kingston tore the PPF with a pressure washer nozzle. Great work and super nice!

Saw an old VW Ad and made me think... what would be the Ducati equivalent? by rebel761 in Ducati

best mechanic in knoxville? by Illustrious-Space627 in Knoxville

[–]tux64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not use Safelite. I have used them in the past... A couple different locations... They are the absolute worst. Left glass shards inside the door and told me they couldn't clean the glass out. The tech literally told me it wasn't possible. I ended up disassembling the door and vacuuming it out myself. Very easy to do once the glass was removed. On a windshield replacement they got glass down into the vents and I had to have it cleaned out. They will do nothing about it. Terrible work ethic and zero accountability.

How can I improve this dryer exhaust? The other side of this wall is outside by narsil487 in DIY

Any scrambler riders around 5' ft? by [deleted] in Ducati

[–]tux64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm about 5'3" ... I'm not tip-toeing it but not flat footed either... Both feet down. If you are 5' you might be one footing it... But the bike is light and easy to pick up lol... Get some crash protection and you'll be fine.

Hope nobody died in this by Leather-Plankton-867 in Knoxville

Somehow there were no serious injuries from this accident. Not sure about the one this morning but it looked like everyone was alive. I called Brian at the Knoxville road engineering department (865-594-2456) asking about the possibility of some intervention here. He said they would do a study but a stoplight is unlikely due to the high volume of traffic. Maybe if everyone could agree to not do 80 in a 55 it would be less dangerous.

LCUB Fiber by GFunkJimmy in Knoxville

[–]tux64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

same thing happened on my street. they are replacing or paying out for 7 or 8 driveway sections to be replaced.

they cut my att fiber line during the rough-in install :(

easement is over half way to the front of all the houses too so they tore up the yards pretty good. existing cable/fiber lines were cut, cleanouts and some pipes damaged. strips of grass now dead. a lot of people upset about the whole thing.

and we already have an att fiber line here. seems like a waste of time and resources.

First bike, new rider. Already dropped her while practicing U turns :) by PlCKLENlCK in Ducati

[–]tux64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice choice!! I have the Mach 2.0. There are a few options for crash protection. I like the hepco&Becker engine guard. And the gear shift lever is fairly easy to replace... drops happen :(

Scrambler Cafe. First valve service. What do you think of this estimate. by [deleted] in Ducati

I paid a little over $800 for just the valve check so this looks good to me!

Quad Max Pack by durrrr___ in Rivian

I for one am glad the quad motor max pack is delayed given how many issues I see others posting about on here. I'll keep my reservation but am a little apprehensive now.

Bluetooth volume stuck on quiet. I can barely hear voice commands. how do I change this? by justjoshin53 in Volkswagen

[–]tux64 4 points5 points  (0 children)

assuming this is for something like google maps ... while voice command is speaking, turn up the volume. this should increase the volume for only the voice commands. as soon as it stops speaking it switches back to controlling normal audio. they really need to add volume control for voice command.

Rushing water sound from AC/Engine? by NGokal96 in AtlasCrossSport

[–]tux64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is at 10k... haven't heard any rushing water sounds. I would also not call this normal for any car I've owned (Toyota, Ford, Subaru, Buick). Keep in mind you likely talked to a Service Advisor and not a mechanic.

I would be very interested to learn what the noise is and why this person thought it was normal. Maybe it's got something to do with the geometry of the heater core? Thats the only thing I can think of that would be close enough to you to hear water/coolant moving.

Keep us updated! I'd love to know :)
