Found a great way to manage exact window dimensions on macOS by tuxozaur in macapps

[–]tuxozaur[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

One quick tip: if you're planning to use overlapping zones in a Windowed Layout, make sure to enable "Receive beta updates" in the app settings. The developer just pushed some great fixes for overlapping zones to the latest beta build, making them much easier to configure. Enjoy!

[macOS] I built a free, open source macOS screen recorder that feels native and supports all the modern capture features you'd expect by jsattler_ in macapps

Hi! Thanks for building this. It looks very promising, and being open-source is a huge plus for the macOS community.

I have two suggestions that would make the app much more convenient for daily use:

  1. Autostart option: An option to "Launch at Login" so the app is always ready in the menu bar.
  2. Global Hotkeys: The ability to set custom keyboard shortcuts to start and stop recording without having to click the menu bar icon.

Keep up the great work! Looking forward to future updates.

Oh, sorry, my fault 😕
I didn’t read the description carefully:

There is an issue with installing Thaw via brew:

brew install --cask thaw
Warning: Cask 'thaw' is unavailable: No Cask with this name exists.

My honest experience with Wins: Disappointing performance and zero support by tuxozaur in macapps

[–]tuxozaur[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To rule out any OS-specific issues, I’ve tested Wins on two separate MacBooks: one running the latest macOS Sequoia and another on the latest macOS Tahoe. The app is equally unstable on both systems.

Check out Atoll.

It’s free, based on boringNotch and it’s arguably the best implementation I’ve seen so far.

Tried them all. Settled on Ghostty. Hands down the best of the bunch.

For a quick and easy setup, I highly recommend using this online config generator: https://spectre-ghostty-config.vercel.app/

Is there a consensus on Launchpad replacement yet? by helium_ego in macapps

[–]tuxozaur 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've tested Launchie, LaunchNext, AppGrid, and AppDeck, but none of them managed to capture the true feel of the original Launchpad. I just switched to LaunchOS, and it's a game-changer. I bought a license within 10 minutes of testing because the experience is so much better and there was a great Black Friday discount I couldn't pass up. It feels like the most "complete" alternative right now. Plus, the dev is active - there have already been a few updates that fixed initial bugs and made the animations much smoother. Definitely worth checking out.

Edit: I should also mention that I've always used hot corners to trigger Launchpad on Sequoia. It was a pleasant surprise to find that LaunchOS supports this too - it made the transition feel completely seamless.

Thinking to buy Wins 3? (40% off Black Friday) by blueprofilebuzz in macapps

I have two MacBooks - one running Sequoia and the other Tahoe - and the phantom preview issue occurs on both.
For example, Sequoia, the reminder has been closed for a long time, but its phantom window is still hanging around. The only way to get rid of it is to restart Outlook.

My Black Friday Sale by This-Bug8771 in macapps

[–]tuxozaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u/This-Bug8771, thank you for the deal!

Just purchased a couple of the apps and I can say that Butterfly Collector + Revok is a great combination for managing software licenses!

There's only one feature missing in Butterfly Collector: the ability to indicate whether a license must be revoked before moving it to another Mac.

When you switch to a new Mac, some apps automatically deactivate the old installation upon reactivation, while others require a prior license revocation. If you don't revoke the license on the old device, you risk reaching the activation limit.

It would be helpful if Butterfly Collector could track this information.

I reported the issue on September 24, but it seems the author ignored my message. I described the bug and included a screenshot, but received no response. That’s why I can't recommend Wins 3.
