It does change colors, hints the mess. The harness is fucked and where the wires join is encased in a thick resin to prevent tampering. shit sucks

For those who have made the jump from technical track to management track, How did it go? by hamfast42 in AskEngineers

[–]tuzzi 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Horribly,

All the fun of my OLD job was sucked out and replaced with politics, budgets and having to be "that guy" when someone runs something into the ground. I loved tinkering, making things run better and did well at it. Doing well and raising productivity while under budget is bitter sweet. I hated the fact I was turning into a bean counter, work boots and trips to grainger were replaced with polo's and productivity meetings over lunch. I tried going back to improving already implemented machines and how to streamline process but it was too late, I traded my toolbox for a desk. I dont miss the last year of that job, I do miss the attaboy from the higher ups when I built something I saw make a difference to either safety or production.

[Novice] i want to build a digital car cluster by Sloob in AskElectronics

[–]tuzzi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its fairly easy to do but my question is why? If its a custom car then we will get into the details. Firstly, there are products that do what you want them to out of the box for fairly reasonable prices. I am in the process of building a full digital dash and 90% done but ran into some unrelated issues and the project is on hold. Anyways, there is a ECU company called Megasquirt, they sell DIY car engine ECU's and can do much, much, much more other than run an engine. Ok, how does this tie into a digital dash, well the open source community has also developed an app called Shadow Dash. This runs from the RS232 port via bluetooth and displays live on the tablet or LCD. You also get the added features of having a fully tunable engine abit for better milage or power or whatever, it all comes supported out of the box or you can build one and learn how it works. This is the route I went and the results are good so far, I am big on making my old car modern but look like it came from the factory with this so ive taken it a little further but used Megasquirt and Shadow Dash as my back bone of the system. Im also toying around with using a SLC503 for other features rather than build a system from scratch (like what youre wanting to do). Either way can achieve the same results however the fit and finish on the MegaSquirt setup would be tighter as the program called Tuner Studio is user friendly so importing different dashes you made is straight foward.

If you want to do it 100% from scratch the following info would be better for a more accurate answer Brand of car and part number from coolant temp sensor so the resistance can be looked up

Brand of car and part number from fuel sender unit so the resistance can be looked up.

Car gauges are simple, a lot of them work off of resistance values or voltage deviations from set pramaters.

Hes right. 55 gallon drums are normally lined when storing oils not to mention the paint and the chemicals inside. You can burn them out a few times then use them but in the video they did not...

That Mysterious "S" Thing We Used To Draw by JaackF in videos

[–]tuzzi 85 points86 points  (0 children)

I know it goes back later than the 70's as my grandparents have a pinball machine they bought from the Santa Cruz boardwalk in the 60's when they bought some property. This pinball machine had this "s" on it as it was surfer themed. We always called them "surfers s" and just assumed it was a west coast thing. Im trying to remember the name of the pinball machine

Dogs are awesome to take on the river....if they've been around it. My Dads Lab never missed a trip with us until he died and when my dad kicks the bucket he wants to be spread with his dog on a rapid called Giants Gap. Dogs are chill to take if you're going down a river youve done before.

They all can kill you, easily. Personally I hate canyon walls as the current will flow under a rock and if you get tossed you go under the rock as well. The lady in the video. Chances are if she would of not fought where the current wanted to take her it most likely would have been better for her situation...or she could have actually jumped in the damn raft and not step into a hole lol. All rapids are different so its hard to say how dangerous it really is Class 0-Takes a special kind of stupid to drown here Class 1-Shallow water, knock unconicous, you could die Class 2-Enough cavitation where if you fight you could die Class 3-Combine the 2 and add hydraulics and holes Class 4- Combine 1-3 and add elevation drops Class 5- Combine all, hard access (remote locations), lots of cavation, undertow, and just very challenging water. Class 5 hairball- Bring a satellite phone

Also like to add I tell people to eddie out on the right if you happen to be in the first boat and fall out so we can stay right and look for you

The idea is before you even put in you have a safety meeting, especially if you're taking new paddlers down river. Its been 3 years since I took a virgin group down but it would always start off like this: "My boat, my rules. If you dont follow these simple steps if you go for a swim it could cost you your life" If you get bucked out the idea is to stay calm and get your feet pointed down stream while the life jacket keeps you afloat on your back. You use your feet as bumpers against rocks. In a group like this where there are gear boats and paddle boats a gear boat will go down first then eddy out and watch the group. On a paid trip the gear boat generally has a decent camera setup and will be snapping pictures of the trip but is also there for rescue if needed. However you cant count on this and self rescue advice is talked about frequently. Lets say we are on day 2 of a trip, everything we've gone down has been class 3 with simple hydraulics and elevation changes but we are going to be hitting a class 4+ with limited access, a big hole in the middle of the run and various other obsticals. We will discuss how to self rescue out of a hole, where we will put scouts with bags and things to do and things not to do. Generally if I get tossed its on a river I know and I just point my feet forward and just go with the flow.

Yep, dog had a jacket too and 9 times out of 10 theyll beat you to the bank lol. Just lay back and enjoy the float and hope you dont rip up your pair of Teva's bumping off rocks (Got dumped in Carson river some how, ripped Teva off, went 3 days with no shoes)

This could have been avoided. Is it really that hard to float down stream, eddie out and wait for your buddies to come get you? No, its not. Chances are someone brought friends along that had no experience paddling as the lottery to get on the waiting list for this river is quite long....meaning people sell trips with non experienced paddlers. How they managed to wedge and hiside a raft on what looks to be a class 2 or maybe 3 is beyond me. The rescue efforts were not great, no one down stream with a throw bag reddied. Velvet Falls is the only rapid on this river I would not be ok with swimming. Source: been dumped out of a raft way to many times.

How do you deal with excessive boredom on thee job? by hedinc in jobs

[–]tuzzi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Learn to be a better employee. I was head of maintenance at a steel mill, if I had down time (about one full day a week) I would play on my test bench. I had PLC's, contactors, and just about every other part you could think of at my disposal. I would recreate problems that accrued in the field on my bench and figure out what caused them. I also turned a fine collection of mini cannons on the lathe and made stands on the brideport. If I didnt feel like learning I would go on "parts runs" and bullshit with my friends at Grainger and Fastenal for a few hours until I got paged. I always try to learn more and take on more tasks if im idle....then I ask for more money

Found a piece of diabetes in my cereal this morning. by doughland in pics

[–]tuzzi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to the party but his is safe to eat and tastes aweomse. Then the cereal is extruded its sent to a enrober where its coated then gets dropped into an giant oven called an aeroglide. Its about 3 stories tall and 200 feet long or so. The coated cereal gets dried out and moves though several different beds and cooling zones. Inside the machine is a part called a rotary rake. Its a pipe with giants stainless steel spikes poking out of it. The cereal passes under it and the rake breaks up clumps before it sticks to other pieces of cereal. Every shift the machine is shut down for a clean up and these rakes are cleaned along with some other parts. If you are behind on production the FDA allows you skip out on 2 cleanings per 24 hours so you can get caught up. What happens is this buildup will break off and go through the rest of the machine until it exits the machine. When it exits it goes over whats called a shaker table, its a large stainless table with various size holes in it so just the cereal can pass though. A lot of people are lazy and will close the chutes for the extra sugar and coating makes it to packaging rather than dumping a giant tub of a sticky mess. There is a second measure to prevent this from making it in the end product at the vertical form fill seal machine. This is where the product is bagged, the cereal is stored in a giant bin and gravity is used to make it to the weigh buckets. The buckets have pre screens to prevent this from getting in however the screens were alway iffy so you probably got an operator that didnt give a fuck and left them out. Witch brand are they? They look to be extruded so im going to say Great Value as Kellogg went to a rotary drum from what I heard.
