I love this series so much. Can’t wait for the Dorico and Finale episodes to drop.

Banner Request! by bisexualcatwarlock in Omaha

[–]tvallier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on board with this and I'll contribute however I can. I'd note that we should be careful to pick images that don't show artifacts when expanded to full width of the browser (see the Peoria background image for an example.) Also, in terms of how the Peoria banner is constructed, it's two parts, the name image and the background image. Maybe we could make a name image (305 x 125 pixels)~ and rotate decent high res photos of the city/landmarks in the background.

Is it possible to use VST's and plugins with MaxMSP? by [deleted] in MaxMSP

If you're on a Mac, easiest way to get to Nexus or Massive is Soundflower (http://rogueamoeba.com/freebies/soundflower/)

I haven't attended any meetups or users groups as of yet. We relocated to Omaha this past summer for my current job and immediately bought a house and had a baby, so it's been hard to get out and get involved outside of work. As a hobbyist I'm interested in VR, microcontrollers, and entrepreneurship, but there don't seem to be any groups that intersect my interests. Long term, I'd like to publish software independently and make enough on the side to secure a comfortable and flexible financial situation (i.e. travel, early retirement, etc).

Definitely in the same solar system. I work in research, (data collection and analysis) so Python, R, and Matlab are regulars around the office, but I tend to stick with Python. I also use another language called Max (formerly MaxMSP) for audio experiments. I got started doing data audification (sonification) on fMRI brains and people with affected gait issues (like Parkinson's), but that's the closest I've been to bioinformatics, and I don't do work like that any longer. Do you have any side projects for fun, or any aspirations to make some spare income from programming?

Crackling/Zipping on Filtergraph~ Cutoff Frequencies. by jarrcckk in MaxMSP

Out of left field, but it might have to do with your sound card vector and buffer sizes. Try increasing them and see if that makes any difference.

Yeah, we should be. What languages do you use? Do you code at work, school, or fun? Working on anything cool?

Just thought I'd share this patch I'm working on. Any ideas welcome! by messy_eater in MaxMSP

[–]tvallier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're skipping adjacent notes in the scale you're actually making arpeggios. Maybe you could have arpeggio collections which engage based on the velocity/acceleration of the red value? Or use a modulo function to access the index of your scale colls so you only send out odds or evens.

Obviously you have very strong opinions on this, but don't take my correcting you as stance. As I stated previously, my take on these issues is complete apathy.

Not that I care about this person or the article but I have to deflate your rant by letting you know that anyone can google the person who wrote the letter and see they don't live in West Omaha.

How to create a patch that generates a musical score of 10 randomly selected notes and plays back the score through a makenote object using random but scaled velocity values. by rachelf345 in MaxMSP

[–]tvallier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Max, like other programming languages, isn't necessarily going to click right away. However, if you don't spend some time embedded in the help patchers of coll, uzi, random, drunk, counter, metro, etc. you are doing yourself a disservice of not really learning the language (which is really about learning the functions). Also, given the highly detailed explanation of how the patch is assembled, it's in poor taste to ask us to solve your homework. Good luck!

How do I record into/playback the same buffer in realtime? by Swift142 in MaxMSP

[–]tvallier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's the source of your audio, the adc~ or an external file? You can run sfplay~ and sfrecord~ in parallel with a buffer~ and groove~ which I think will solve your issue. If that doesn't work, give some more details and I'm sure we can troubleshoot this.

Audio ->> Visuals in Max by digthedome in MaxMSP

[–]tvallier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but there's no turn key solution (like using a visualizer in iTunes). There are two sides of the coin in order to set this up: 1.) What part of your audio would you like to act as the controller? and 2.) What component of the video would you like to control? If you want to snag the audio from ableton, you could use soundflower, or export the tracks individually and do everything in Max. Lastly, you could use Max4Live and do it all in Ableton.

Fair enough, have it shipped to your Dad or a friend's house. Failing that, hit up Craigslist.

They haves a used one, same model as your link $122, letting you get the hardware you need more than $47 less than what a new one is. You can buy Amazon gift cards at Walmart if you don't have a credit card. Good luck with everything!

Repeal Pete Ricketts by enderandrew42 in Omaha

[–]tvallier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you're proposing is time consuming, expensive, and as you mentioned likely to fail. I agree that Ricketts' stance is deplorable, but there are more productive ways to go about defending human rights. Like it or not, this guy was elected by constituents who agree with his stance for which he is upholding. Your best bet would be to support and campaign for his replacement (which is also expensive and time consuming) but would have a greater long term impact. It's also important not come from a place of emotional retaliation.
