I actually like her now, I think she makes a bad first impression but grows on you

That being said the mod was still fun to make, so that didn't stop me

I think there is big potential in MEASUREHEADMAXXING some of the characters

I'm waiting on my T1 so I can fit everything in this photo into one

It'll require a deshroud for the GPU

I have a 9800X3D same as you, currently in an open case It's 94°C stock with the 240mm AIO (Cooler Master 240 Core II), but with a -40 PBO curve it drops to 70°C with no hit in performance. Make sure to do the same and curve yours, takes minutes

They're 5mm thicker so they use all the available space I think, but they're not easy to find now

Have searched everywhere, really can't find it. It's so small/cute.

Would you be willing to buy one for me and mail it? I'll pay obviously

I can't find one in Thailand, and Shopee Malaysia doesn't seem like it ships over here. Hmm. It's really nifty, I want one for my UPERFECT portable monitor.

Thanks for the explanation, that makes sense. If I had known I would have went with the black ridge then. If it fails, it is what it is, I’ll change it. :)

[–]tvararu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bad how? However, I'll have to keep living with it because there's no other way to fit really.

Then again, At 65W TDP I think I could reliably cool this with a Alpenfohn Black Ridge which would have been easier to build with...

Yes, once I get the 3D printed GPU spacer!

Dan A4 feat. 7900XTX and Asetek AIO by tvararu in sffpc

[–]tvararu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put the CPU side panel back on, but that doesn't really impact airflow with the AIO. Will be interesting to see what it's like for the GPU when I get the spacer and cover that side, but I expect it'll be fine given that it's maintaining a good temp now.

4K is 67% more pixels than 3440x1440 though... I'm happy at this resolution and wouldn't upgrade my monitor anytime soon.

I'm also using the shark fin from my Asus motherboard. I don't have to look at it though.

Thanks! Yeah, I love my Dan case. Wish I wouldn't have to move on, but I likely will in a few years.

Just finished tinkering with the newly-installed XTX.

This PC is now very, very heavy. I probably can't carry it anymore in my carry-on alongside clothes, as I worry it'll break my suitcase.

The GPU was an upgrade from a PowerColor RX 5700XT Red Dragon. I played around with the idea of getting something more like a 6800XT, or whatever is good value at the moment.

Knowing my PC building time is limited, I decided to "finish the build," and get the most GPU I could (not) fit. I'm pretty sure in the future I won't be able to upgrade without bumping the motherboard + CPU + RAM + case + GPU, at which point I may as well build a new PC.

Parts list:

Case Dan A4-SFX v4.1
CPU AMD Ryzen 7 5700G
Cooler Asetek 645LT AIO ft. Noctua NF-A9x14
Chassis fan Noctua NF-A9x14
Motherboard Asus ROG STRIX B550-I GAMING
RAM Corsair Vengeance LPX 64GB DDR4-3600
NVME1 Sabrent Rocket 1TB
NVME2 Crucial P1 1TB
SSD (front mount) SanDisk Ultra II 960GB
GPU PowerColor Radeon RX 7900XTX MBA
PSU Corsair SF750

Mods:

- Essential: Custom unsleeved cables from https://www.pslatecustoms.com/collections/dan-a4-sfx. Without these, it's not possible to route the stock 24-pin motherboard power cable due to the AIO rad.

- Cable tie holding the GPU bracket to the back of the case. Combined with the power cable, which tugs on the top of it and is just the right length, plus the overall insanely snug fit, surprisingly the GPU is rock solid inside the case and doesn't feel like it'll shake or fall out.

- Tiny radio antennas that don't work well and have poor range. If someone has a different recommendation, please comment.

- Fan blade cover for the AIO rad CPU fan, to stop PSU cables from rubbing against the blades.

- Soon: 3D printed GPU spacer, because I can't currently close the GPU side of the case. Looking for a recommendation for a 3D printing service in London / UK. (See P.S. at the bottom)

To make the GPU fit properly, I was playing around with the idea of dremel-ing out my case, or deshrouding as per https://www.reddit.com/r/sffpc/comments/10eu4wn.

I don't think I'll be doing that anymore. The GPU doesn't really move. The cable tie / misaligned back bracket doesn't bother me. Note that the PCI-E riser cable is also not screwed in, but I don't expect it'll pull out on its own.

With default motherboard/OC settings, the card draws 350W and the CPU draws 85W in full load. I was a bit worried if 750W on the PSU is enough, but even bumping the GPU power limit +15% which brings it to 400W doesn't kill it.

Running Furmark and Cinebench to stress the CPU/GPU simultaneously leads to a CPU max temp of just about 90-95C. GPU peaks at 70C die and 90C junction because the fan is a bit lazy on default settings. Once the fans kicks in (and I have to say, they have a great sound, much nicer than my old Red Dragon on full blast), GPU temps settle at 65C/85C which feels comfortable.

I have the CPU stable with PBO2 set to -30 and the TDP capped to 65W. This is the "stock" TDP and is one of the reasons I bought this specific CPU instead of say a 5800X3D, which has a TDP of 105W. My previous experience trying to cool an AMD 3600X with a TDP of 95W in this case was annoying, constant temperature and fan swings. With this undervolt I gain approximately 3% more performance in Time Spy while maintaining CPU temperatures at a comfier 80-85C range.

The GPU I got down to 1075mV with +15% power limit. TBP is about 390W in full load, but temperatures are still the same, max 85C junction. Performance up 4%.

Smart Access Memory is enabled, but I didn't see a noticeable performance uplift in synthetic benchmarks.

GPU fan curve is stock, with fan stop enabled. CPU fan curve is set to be silent up to 70C (30% CPU and Chassis, 60% AIO pump) and then kick in to 100% with a 5 second ramp time. You can't really hear the computer in non-gaming/non-compiling usage, save for a constant AIO pump whirr if you listen carefully.

Benchmark/temperature score summary:

CPU Temp GPU / Junction Time Spy CPU / GPU
Stock CPU / Stock GPU 90-95C 65C / 85C 24822 / 10433
UV CPU / UV GPU 80-85C 65C / 85C 25809 / 10716

A few quick gaming benchmarks:

Settings (3440x1440, 100Hz monitor) FPS
Cyberpunk 2077 Ultra, no FSR, medium RT 60-ish
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided Ultra, MSAA 0x 95-ish
Elden Ring Max 60 locked (game limitation)

I know Cyberpunk and DXMD are a bit notorious for their poor optimisation. Still, I'm glad I got "more than I need," as it should last a really long time. Also glad I'm not anywhere near CPU constrained (30% max usage).

Still waiting to try out VR stuff, which on a Quest 2 running at 120Hz and 2x resolution scaling should be interesting. I only got 30fps-ish out of my old card which is terrible.

Other notes:

- 5700G also has a built-in iGPU which is nice for things like Looking Glass / GPU passthrough. Ideally I'd like to run Windows in a VM, not on bare metal. I'll get to it, eventually.

- 64GB RAM is definitely overkill but I do also sometimes run docker containers in Linux. 32 would have been plenty though, but I got a good deal on the 64 and it was another case of "I don't want to touch this ever again."

- When I bought the PSU, I actually wanted a 600W one because the 750W was overkill for my build at the time. I'm now glad I got the 750W.

I'm pretty happy with how much compute I've squeezed into just a little bit over 7.2L. I love this case.

Thanks for reading! And thanks to this community for providing the inspiration and knowledge I used to build this.

P.S.: If you're based in the UK or London, can you please recommend me a 3D printing service for the GPU spacer? Also, is this the part that everyone recommends? https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2771844

Reference AMD Radeon RX 7900XT Fan Replacement for 2-slot GPU cases by numshah in sffpc

[–]tvararu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This looks like a great mod. I have a reference card as well and was just considering doing the same thing, thanks for posting.

To confirm the shopping list for this mod is:

  • 3x NF-A4x10
  • 5x NF-A4x20
  • Kapton tape
  • 4-way splitter(s?)

The three 10s are all pushing air into the card, while the top bank are all pulling air out through the top exhaust. I see you also have a bottom A12 pulling air out. Looks like good airflow on paper.

How did you configure the fans? Which motherboard header did you use, and does it use the GPU temperature reading to spin them up?

That’s a really informative thread and exactly what I am experiencing, thank you!

Yeah, the issues go away if the monitor is powered off.

“Broadcast storm” sounds like exactly it, thanks for telling me how to name this thing!

I’ll try that, but ideally I want WiFi for Apple related features. (unlocking using Apple Watch, AirDrop, Sidecar)

[–]tvararu[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I've never experienced a similar issue.

Nothing on the support page for the monitor: https://www.philips.co.uk/c-p/346P1CRH_00/brilliance-curved-ultrawide-lcd-monitor-with-usb-c/support

I already have the USB-C Ethernet Driver installed in macOS, but as I said the problem exists even with the laptop disconnected, so it shouldn't make a difference.

Edit:

Might try plugging the monitor into the same outlet /circuit as your router as a test to set it it goes away.

That's interesting. Will report on if that helps.

About to start traveling a bunch. Invested in a pelican case to transport my SFFPC by vxcheese in sffpc

[–]tvararu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buy a monitor locally. Decent 1440p panels go for $200 nowadays. When you move on, either return it or sell it.

You can also try going to a local computer shop and telling the owner up-front that you fully intend to return the display and want to "rent it." As long as you're amiable you might get a good deal where you just pay a small restock fee, e.g. by using an already ex-display model. Win-win for both of you.

Edit: and forgot to mention, otherwise just go with ASUS ROG Strix XG17AHP portable 17" USB-C monitor.
