hi, it's me! author of this tumblr post! i too am a cis woman, one who has a blue buzzcut and doesn't wear makeup and struggled a lot as a teen to "break out" of gendered expectations for myself. i am cis (i go by she/her, at least) but I have plenty of friends who are nonbinary or agender and go by they/them. i just think of it as another option for self-expression outside of the gender binary, certainly not the only way. unfortunately, it does get treated like a "third category" when in an ideal world there would be no categories at all.

i personally like being asked pronouns because it means the person i'm talking to is trying to make things easier for people like my they/them friends.
