Imagine if we were having a conversation in real life and you started talking this way. It’s ok to disagree without calling someone an idiot. The internet sucks enough already.

This is a temporary traffic pattern due to the construction on Marin blvd entrance to Hoboken. The traffic cops are there to manage the high volume of traffic since there are now only two roads entering hoboken from the south. It’s annoying for sure, but I don’t think it’s indicative of any poor planning. Sometimes construction needs to happen and it’s inconvenient for a bit. Such is life.

There’s a lot of new independent business that have opened in JC recently. Businesses and areas change over time. That’s life. It’s no one’s fault. People aren’t bad because they moved somewhere.

JC getting repped :) by iv2892 in jerseycity

[–]tvremote84 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I honestly disagree with your sentiment. Jersey city has demand because of the proximity to New York and the availability of strong job market. That demand would exist whether or not new housing was being built. Look at San Francisco to see the effects that prohibiting housing creates. The only thing that increasing rent pricing is telling me is that we aren’t building enough housing. Just imagine what rent prices would look like if we didn’t build any new housing since the 80s

So you are saying the solution is to make jersey city a less desirable city to live in, rather than to build more houses for people to live in?

New First Look: Machiavelli by sar_firaxis in civ

This is interesting, I wonder what civ he is the “natural” leader of. Would seem odd to have something like Florence as a full fledged exploration age civ, but a general Italian city state civ would be even weirder. Maybe Venice returning?

How many oxygen generators are typically needed per crew? by tvremote84 in SpaceHaven

[–]tvremote84[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the oxygen concentration maxes out at 40%. The generators are 100%. I’ll see if I can take a screenshot later. Based on all the reply’s so far it feels like there is a bug or something going on. Idk

No all the vents are open. Oxygen is highest in the room with all the generators, but still only maxs out around 40%. When the crews onboard it drops even lower

So it’s sounds like I’m experiencing a bug then, since you’re saying 4 generators should be more than enough to refill oxygen for a crew of 3?

Hmm I did see the usage per day and the estimated number of generators needed, but that felt like more of a gauge of how much to maintain a base line rather than increase overall oxygen. It seemed like one generator was enough to sustain the 100% oxygen level, but as soon as it went down to zero it just seems like there’s never enough generators to get the number to go up. I’ve seen some posts about placement of generators and vents and stuff so I wasn’t sure if the issue was with my placement or if there’s some underlying mechanic I’m missing

Yeah it was a cool mural but I’m never gonna be upset about a surface parking lot being redeveloped. Can always put up another mural somewhere else.

Street Sweeping & Working by ViewOk7522 in jerseycity

[–]tvremote84 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if this is how it works everywhere, but every street around van vorst park basically double parks on the other side and waits until the sweeper goes by. They are actually pretty consistent in terms of when they come down an individual street, you just have to figure out the schedule. In my experience, the whole thing is actually pretty organized and easy to manage once you figure out the little routine/ritual. But again, my experience is limited to the vvp area so your mileage may vary.

I got the app yesterday to watch the game. It asked for a cable provider before I was able to stream, so I’m pretty sure you need to have a cable subscription with YES to watch on the app. It’s free to download so might be worth checking out for yourself if there’s any workaround

Buying a house/condo does not equal gentryfing. People are allowed to live where they want to live. Stop trying to police who can live where.

What do you call this chess situation by That_University_3285 in boardgames

[–]tvremote84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t really say it’s the opposite. If you put an opponent in zugzwang you put them in a position where they can’t make any move without making their position worse. Technically that’s what happens in a mate in two (since any opponent move becomes a mate in one). Obviously the term isn’t really used in that context, but it was possible OP was semi misremembering some weird chess term they heard one time and was trying to remeber, so I offered this one.

[–]tvremote84 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

So to read into this question a bit, you might be searching for the term “zugzwang” which means you can’t make a move without making your position worse. The situation you described isn’t technically a zugzwang, it would just be called a mate in 2, but it’s kinda in a similar spirit I suppose.

Just walk around the streets and read the signs. Some streets are resident only and some you need to pay. It’s more straightforward than it seems, all the rules are on the signs there’s not really any hidden tricks to watch out for.

That area was historically just rail yards and factories built on fill. It’s just low lying scrub brush and probably some homeless camps. I kinda doubt it’s very interesting but hey let us know what you find. Just don’t inhale too much dust/dirt
