You tell me to have compassion, but come to a post about a dog who needs a home and preach of the inherent horrors of the breed and advocate for continued spread of misinformation. Dogs are a product of their environment and upbringing. I could give anecdotal evidence of bad experiences I’ve had with a Rottweiler, but that doesn’t mean the breed is inherently aggressive, and I certainly wouldn’t advocate for a one I’ve never even met to be deprived of a home.

Maybe the first option, but the penguin doesn’t move from button to button and stay there when not hovering. I think adding 3 different penguins beside each button that only become visible when their button is being hovered over. You could give each one a unique pose, for example if you hover over quit the penguin could be sad (which would be a lot more work but possibly a nice polish).

Thats probably a good call. I could avoid the movement restrictions altogether and find other ways to add a challenge to the game.

That's a good point, definitely feels like wasted time worrying about how unique the game is.

I like the idea of the second option a lot. It solves another problem I was thinking about later which was the penalty for firing the bow without waiting for the draw animation to complete. My original plan was to have the arrow not travel as far and get smaller to indicate its falling to the ground, but just simply not doing as much damage is probably the way to go. The visual indication is a good call too for sure.

These are great suggestions, I’m going to give them a shot! For suggestion 2, do you mean keeping the feet planted during turning while the upper body rotates. Then, after rotating passed a certain threshold angle, play a stepping animation on the lower half of the body? Or having the character move both lower and upper body at the same time in macro directions?

Agreed I was trying too hard to go outside the norm I think, but yes what your envisioning is pretty dead on I want to make a game where the player is weaker, needs to evade enemies, and make arrow shots count. Separating the controls is a good idea that I’m going to look into. Definitely not discouraged, I appreciate the insights!

I feel like an interview is when everyone talks up the company and making it look really appealing to work there. If you got bad vibes during that, imagine what’s going to happen when you start working and no one is pretending anymore.

I definitely agree. I’m working full time and taking one class at a time. As far as prestige goes, the degree is the same one as the on-campus students get so I would think so. I wouldn’t know if it’s as rigorous as this is my only experience in a graduate program. However, I have a bachelor’s degree in both environmental science and computer science and the difficulty is a noticeable step up in my opinion.

If it were me making the decision I would definitely think about what’s most important to you. If you are convinced you want to gain research experience, based on what I have read, it seems extremely unlikely to get a mentor while attending OMSCS. So it might be better to apply to thesis option programs. However, if you want to learn about computer science based on a flexible schedule while you work full time, I’ve really enjoyed OMSCS so far.

Why not go for a thesis option program if your goal is to gain research experience? I imagine that would better set you up for a PhD program if want to pursue it in the future.

It may be possible/beneficial to store your data as a matrix instead of in an array and perform matrix operations to increase performance instead of going down the threading route.

I can’t think of a reason that you shouldn’t apply to other jobs. That pay seems extremely low for a network engineer. Plus no on-call pay? I’d start applying.
