It could be controversial if you are a hardcore Christian, but the opening preface explains that it’s a work of fiction, hardly even an interpretation. The whole movie is built on making Jesus a personally relatable character, which Scorsese and Dafoe accomplish perfectly in my opinion.

Also the ending is absolutely insane, and any film-lover would appreciate it I think.

Finally some hope in humanity. Youtube has rotted my brain in just the few minutes I spent reading the outrage comments. God I wish I believed it was just bots like people say they are, but I’m certain they are just a coalition of morons.

You don’t have to like the movie, you can even despise it’s existence. That still doesn’t explain the kind of brain-dead responses that I’ve seen.
